That loophole was closed this summer. Their signings from last year are spread over the contract length but all signings from this summer onwards may only be spread over five years.
Missed that. But even so, only 20m this year. It’s in 2/3 years time I guess when a few windows spend adds up that it reaches the point where they’ll need to start selling

Let this thread be only for posting tweets and no other discussion. Discussion about player should be in their respective thread.

Any idea what the first offer for Pavard was?

I'm not crazy about this potential signing. Pavard's a very good player but I'd prefer Todibo or Tapsoba for cb and at rb I'd prefer us target Frimpong next season. A case of a good player at a good price but where there are better potential options for our specific squad imo.

It's all well and good buying potential, but we aren't Brighton or brentford. A 25 Yr old ready made international makes far more sense..

Put the thread on ignore because fed up of no one wanting us to sign him whatsoever. Would you still feel the same IF Erik was still looking to bring in one of those mentioned next summer

I agree with this. Prefer for us to sign specialist CB and specialist RB. I'm tired of tweeners. Good at both but not great at any. There are better options more suited to our team than him in both positions. I'd rather we signed Todibo at CB and go after Vanderson next summer.

It would be a good signing. We don't need a first choice CB right now as long as Varane and Martinez stay fit and he would be a good upgrade at RB.

The price is fair, he is at a good age and also has the experience of winning the biggest tournaments. Getting in players with a winning mentality is hugely important especially when we are trying to bed younger players like Hojlund, Garnacho, Mainoo and maybe Amad / Hannibal / Pellistri into the team.

Pretty sure I've heard he wants to play at cb not rb. Why would he want to move from Bayern where he's their starting rb to being a backup cb at Utd? He's not good enough to be our 1st choice cb and he's in his prime already so he won't improve

Varane is very injury prone and they’d probably share the same amount of games at CB

Could well just fancy the new challenge. Bayern have won what 8-9 titles in a row now.

Exactly. ETH will definitely rotate Varane so he’s available at key points of the season rather than running him into the ground and then have him out of action for the run in.

Varane was the one who was vocal about the number of games to be played so I am sure he is onboard with the rotation too.

I have been in Germany for seven years, I have won everything with the club. I'm not against discovering a new project. Maybe now is the time. Why not discover a new country, a new culture? But the sporting project must be interesting.
He said this about 9 months ago. Sounds like he just fancies something new. I also haven't been able to find anything about him demanding to play CB, just that he sees that as his natural position but will play wherever he's asked.

The only transfer in the history of transfers where we have to pay a player off
Hopefully we learn a lesson about handing out stupid wages. Sadly I don't think this will be our last pay off. We still have Martial and possibly Sancho to offload :nervous:

Pretty sure this isn't as rare a thing as people are making out.
It’s not, it’s a regular part of a footballer breaking contract to transfer to another team. Folk here just love whipping up drama to beat the club/player with because they get their kicks from being constantly irate and morally superior.

In fact secondary reason for us not getting FDJ was Barca had to pay him 17 million payoff. First being he didn't want to leave Barcelona even if it was being sucked into a literal Black Hole.
