I noticed this in the women's world cup and the U17 (?) men's world cup, and apparently the linespeople have been instructed to do this to ensure that VAR can do its thing. I agree though, it's silly.

It is not like the SuperCup was unknown in terms of schedule either. The PL should have accomodated the games better
