New football game coming out.

If Fifa = Real Madrid and EFooball/Pes = Barcelona, could UFL = Atletico Madrid?

If anything I hope the gameplay would be similar to PES 5/6 gameplay, I would definitely get it. But will it just end up a catastrophe?

However it's nice to see a new football video game from someone else other than EA or Konami.

Free to play?

Really would be the anti-FIFA
Fifa is becoming free to play soon too, as is PES I think. It’ll just be all the add-ons that cost money.

Well any competition is good.

Pes6 was great at the time.I still have it on PS2. I played it only the other day. While the new games have their issues they are so much better to play than Pes6 and I include the gameplay in that.

The biggest issues for me with the newer games is the player AI doesn't feel all that advanced, players just running in the wrong direction for no reason, defenders running out of the cb positions, forwards not making runs or just stopping before the ball gets to them.

When you are playing against the AI, it almost feels like you are fighting with the game to get it to do what you want, but at the same time trying to win the game you are playing. That's what infuriates me the most about it.

The newer PES games are much better and much more enjoyable when you switch to full manual controls. Especially when you are playing against someone who does the same. You cannot blame the game for misplaced passes and shots.

I'll probably try this and see what it's like. The last game other than Pes or Fifa I played was This is football, with John O'Shea on the cover.

Don't understand the "no PC" decision. Hope it comes out on PC eventually if it is any decent.

Nobody uses a PC anymore grandpa

Tell that to Sony who finally got their heads out of their arses and getting that sweet money on PC from their exclusives.

I guess UFL lads hate money. This is F2P and they would earn tons from microstransactions on PC.

Its not showing us much gameplay for gameplay trailer. The little it did show at 15 seconds in...not sure I like what that centre back is doing! I don't have much hope for this. Fifa outside of FUT is fun, seasons, clubs, career mode. A game will have to be reallyyy special to pull players away from Fifa, and thats not taking into account the FUT addicts.

Yeah it just looks like a copy of the FUT team mode but with less impressive animations and generic kits.

How long until we have a bunch of FUT clones available to download on consoles just like we have a million copies of Clash of Clans on mobile devices? Their trailer already hits the exact same beats as the mobile ads do - it's just missing some angel with big tits wagging her finger. Grumble, meh, old man yells at cloud.

Yeah I took a glance of the second video and thought "oh, is UFL FIFA's new name?"

PES was sick when you could just pick Brazil and have Adriano bang in every shot from the half way line.
You've just reminded me of Striker on the SNES, which had a 6-a-side mode where you could always score straight from kick-off with Brazil.

Released earlier this month. Videos look pretty fifa-ish.

Currently downloading.

Tbh feels just like FIFA. Little clunky and awkward to control at times but it's free and growing.

Through balls are absolutely garbage though. Though it was just me, I've not played FIFA since lockdown 1, but just seen a video on YouTube saying the same thing. Makes it a little more difficult for me as a 1-2 pass and move with a through ball was my go to.

I'm not sure if tackling is also hard or the players you start withare just that shit.

I found the through balls to be rubbish as well.
I am waiting on manager/career mode which happens sometime next year.

For it to dethrone Fifa it needs a gacha system that is addicting. People aren't addicted to Fifa, they're addicted to the gambling.

Pretty much..I think most people know the game sucks but the gambling side of it is what keeps them coming back.

It's also because there hasn't been a proper competitor to FIFA for a while now. PES lost its way on the next gen consoles and FIFA despite being junk was the only alternative so swept the market. It's hard to come in and try to take a percentage of that.

Imagine PES 5 or 6 got remastered, they programmed in youth intakes for the next 20 years, and fully integrated an online master league with drafting/salary cap for you and your mates.

No lootpacks, no skill spamming....not happening

Sensible Soccer is the greatest football game, nothing else comes close.

PES never had a chance simply because of the licensing. It was always seen as an inferior product by everyone including me and my friends despite it having vastly better gameplay during the PS2 era.
Konami was awful at presentation too with dour grey boxes compared to the colorful slick menus on FIFA.
Once ultimate team caught on they were toast.. ultimate team basically ruined the football sim genre :(

Do they have licenses? Won't be an issue if it comes to PC with modding but on console it's DOA without licenses

PES had a career mode without licenses for years and for a while was a much better game than fifa. I only ever played that on console

That first one on PS3 (was it PES 2008) was fecking shite. That dreadful music on the menu (football/Soccer) was enough for me to want to rip of my own ears. I mean just listen to the state of this.

How did they drop the ball so badly ffs as PES6 was arguably the best football game ever made.

Banger of a song that.

Anyone remember This is Football? That was so fecking good. You can even dive in it.

It isn't arguable for me. It IS the best.

It was a diabolical game tbf.

Football games peaked in that period of 1998 - 2006

LMA Manager series.
CM 97/98 + 01/02
FM's first iterations.
ISS Pro / PES - Every year bar the ISS brands first attempt on PS2
The odd good FIFA, probably once every other year.
Libero Grande 1+2
VIVA Football (Was only an alright game but it probably had the most comprehensive database in any football game outside of management sims)

Absolute bangers.

There is some good stuff out there recently, EAFC has fallen off sharply though. eFootball has the skeleton of a great game there, its just waiting for Konami to get their collective shit together but when they get a build right, it is about as good a football experience as there has ever been.

Dont think something that's been going on as long and successful as FIFA you can say people are only addicted to the gambling to be fair.

As someone who was a part of the beta testing for Ultimate Team back in 2010, I can tell you that EA piled everything they could into the gambling aspect. All of the control aspects that allowed you to customise player stats permanently went out the door, and they removed as much as possible to accommodate spending money and opening packs. Sometimes, they had a good game attached to it, but I can't stress enough how much it became UT with a FIFA game attached to it from FIFA 10, they were meant to release UT as a summer mode to help keep up engagement, they rushed its full integration to half way into FIFA 10's life cycle (Winter Update) and then became a permanent day 1 release mode from FIFA 11.

Wasn't Viva Football just international teams? Or am I misremembering?

Sensible World of Soccer's database was also massive. In terms of leagues that were actually playable, it trumped the management sims at the time, by miles. I think even FM now doesn't have as many playable leagues, without mods. And it was all crammed onto 2 floppy disks.

It was but it had International Teams all over the world going from 1998 to the 1920's, I think there was over 15,000+ players in it because it wasn't just the known squads but players beyond that as well.
