Also: it's hard to take any positive news about China seriously with the way China is influencing, paying, and buying, as well as bullying and intimidating media organizations across the world. There's an overview of it here (in Dutch, but I suppose online translation will be good enough to get the idea):

Hence we see so many defend China for this pandemic.

Not reading through all the posts and links in the last 2 pages, but Zenz is a shady character affiliated with shady organisations and a clear political purpose.

I had found though that there is compelling evidence that hasn't gone through him.

1. There's the PRC's official birthrate stats that show a massive reduction in 2018 (from 18 to 10, forgot the units), while no other province has a similar decrease (they are all already at 8-10). Somebody claimed that was the year restictions on having >4 children were introduced in Xinjiang, but it seems unlikely that such a massive reduction in birth rate could be caused by people not having their fifth child. Instead, the narrative of people being forcibly sterilised seems plausible.

2. The ICIJ, which exposed the Panama papers, got hold of an internal PRC document detailing how to deal with detainees. While it doesn't support some of the wildest claims, it's obvious that there is mass surveillance, imprisonment, and forced propagandizing.

3. @2cents here was showing satellite footage of ancient mosques being destroyed in ~2018. Long before this narrative had taken hold, and his sources were historians rather than foreign-relations think-tank types. There's been a lot more footage since then.

Don't have any of the links handy, but can try and find them if anyone wants to check it out.

It's all gone a little bit quiet on this, hasn't it?
Just waiting for the next scandal. Just last week it was in the news here in Canada that various tomato products kinda hide that they use Xinjiang tomatoes produced under dubious circumstances. I think that stuff is being pulled from shelves now.

This thread and the corresponding video are incredible. A Chinese journalist/man drove to Xinjiang and filmed all of the detention/re-education centers that were documented by Buzzfeed via satellite. There are also apparently forced labor complexes too. Journalists were able to pick out the areas based on how the Chinese government censored Baidu's maps.

Some of the facilities shown are enormous.

But I was told that Uighur concentration camp was a conspiracy theory crafted by The West to make China look bad in the global stage?

Just take a look at how bustling the places (authorized by the Chinese government) are and look how happy they are! Nothing to see here!

In all seriousness bless the brave person/people who took that footage.

You have to be concerned that the policy of engagement in the hope of gradually changing countries like China and Russia has failed pretty catastrophically.

Tbh with the Ukraine invasion and China treatment of Muslims, it seems like both are finally catching up to western civilisation.

So minutes before her term expires, the UN Human Rights chief finally releases their report on China's human rights abuses in Xinjiang. It's insane that she had to wait until this point to do it.

None of this is new. China has been committing atrocities for many years. Check the deaths that Mao Zedong was responsible for vs his more criticized counterparts of that era and you might find yourself surprised.

If the west allows China to run the future world it is going to be dark and dismal for anyone that is not Chinese. Western nations at a minimum should be preparing and building for what is ahead instead of continuing to attack any form of older and more conservative thinking within their own borders.
