Has anybody seen this? What do people think? He's quite obviously talking out of his sphincter.

Sorry if in wrong location!

Criticism is to be expected because he’s made a few mistakes since the restart.

Obviously Van Der Vaarts just saying that for effect though.

Should not talk about anybody elses wife, the wife-beater...

I have no idea what Maguire did to Van der Vaar, this isn't the first time he made those comments and tbf he comes out as a massive cnut.

These are old comments. I know because I used the "i can find 3 players like him in sunday league" quote when arguing with Maguire fanboys before.

He said this during the Nations League too, unless this is an old quote doing the rounds again. It seems like every pundit has a player that they obsess over and for VDV it is Maguire.

It's not the first time he's spoken about Maguire in such a disparaging way. It's very strange how personal he makes it. Borderline obsessive.

No this is the 2nd time he has had a go at him.

More like Van der Fart.
Such is the quality of his WUM attempt.

Maguire’s a leader and a strong centre half - probably the best we’ve had in years - but he’s not in Van Dijk’s league. He wouldn’t get into other top teams.

Well he is Dutch so obviously he is going to be biased. Although Van Dijk is probably better I would still take what Van der Vaart says with a pinch of salt. He has always been a bit full of him self and likes the attention. A bit like Peter Schmeichel actually. They love to hear themselves

maybe butthurt that he was more expensive than his compatriot van Dijk.

but meh, van der Vaart has always been a cnut. Nothing new here.

Really? Is it something personal or why does he keep trying to put him down?

He mostly does it for show and attention but under all that exaggeration there's a grain of truth: Maguire really does make a disturbing amount of mistakes. I'm still not convinced he's that much better than Smalling.

Overly harsh and no need to mention wives but we overpaid by 40m and pundits are now starting to mention it. Maguire has had a calming influence at the back but I think we could have achieved the same with Dunk or Ake who would have cost a lot less and arent as slow. Hope the club has wisened up to these ridiculous fees for british players and it seems they have started to as the prices being quoted for players like Greaish and Sancho have been slashed significantly in recent reports.

It is quite weird how Maguire's fee is always used but when it comes to other players who have flopped such as Kepa or even Hernandez at Bayern nothing it mentioned.

I really hope all this does not affect Maguire's peformances.

He's not far off. Maguire is very average. If he wasn't English and wasn't bought for the world record fee, he would be torn a new one here by the fans.

What do you expect? He is the most expensive defender and captain of the biggest club in England. Only reason why English media is letting him off the hook is because of his nationality.

Did Maguire piss on his chips? This seems beyond criticism and straying into a personal issue. Which is weird. Did they ever even play against each other?

I might agree with the general sentiment but when the criticism takes a certain tone I don't have to agree with it.

In this case I might hold the view that Maguire was overpriced or not as good as Van Dijk, but simply because of the way VdV presented the criticism, I can't endorse or agree with it.

In short, the guy comes off as a douche.

There’s been 3 separate occasions. It’s really strange and seems personal.

If VVD is worth £300m then I'd rather take Mbappe and Haaland.

He's clearly talking bollocks and trying to generate some attention.

Cause Van Der Vaart made so much of his talent...... Can't believe some people rated him as the best talent on those Ajax teams. Snijder and Ibra far exceeded him.

I’m pretty sure that Harry doesn’t give a feck. He’s been a good signing for us and is a big part of our future.

A lot of people don't want to admit that though. The main difference between him and Smalling is we traded speed for ball playing ability. That's how is see it.

That comes across a little personal, no?

I wonder if there's something between these two.

Seems to me like a case of a former Dutch player bigging up a current Dutch player by drawing a contrast with a rival.... all expressed in typical Dutch candor.

feck Van der Vaart

In fairness the man is a mediocre defender. You rarely see great defenders being done by run of the mill players such as him.

Some so called Utd fans seem quite clueless if they can't see the positive impact Harry has made to the team. We knew he was over priced as the leading English centre half at the moment. We also knew he's no Van Dyke so why the constant comparisons. Van Dyke is now worth double what he was bought for. We've seen what Smalling can do (or more know his limitations) and Ake and Dunk please come on.

I came into this thread expecting VDV to rightly be called out for his terrible punditry (it's must be hard times for him and difficult to get gigs) and yet instead it's another Harry bashing thread.

Van der Vaart is just pissed off he never played for us. Plus we always smashed Spurs. And he is hyping up Van Dijk. Nothing to see here. I guess the Dutchies are now against us since their love CB is playing for Liverpool. Has to keep himself in discussions, while being outshone by Robben and Sneijder as a player. Always in the shadow.

I think a lot of clubs should be sending scouts to Van der Vaart’s amateur league as there’s at least three players better than England captain and world transfer record Harry Maguire.

Seriously, apparently.

Just makes me root for Maguire all the more. It’s no coincidence that the squad is showing a change in attitude under his captaincy.

He made a few mistakes, but he is consistently very good and plays every minute of every game, something a lazy, and at times overweight van der Vaart could have learned from.

No doubt in my mind that Harry will finish his career having achieved more than him, as the captain and example at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Not everyone fails when they finally reach a big club, and a players personality is a massive part of that.
