It's safe to say that he is being negotiated, at least. Missing tonight's game indicates that, as the defense was composed by the expected/usual players except him...

In Sweden he's commonly known as 'Nilsson Lindelöf', kinda weird (not really) to see him being referred to as just Lindelöf everywhere else. I can sort of understand him wanting to distance himself from such a banal additional surname, I know I would.

In Salford he'll be known as The Red Nosed Reindeer

There is no doubt that he is being negotiated. Despite the fact that Benfica's coach said that it had nothing to do with a possible exit, I am sure he would have played last night if he wasn't being negotiated. This doesn't mean the deal will go through.

I never trust a word that comes out of those Portuguese rags. We've fallen for their stories every summer and it always turns out to be lies. Didn't David Gill have to phone a Portuguese club at one point to tell them to stop using our name to drive up interest in their players?

The Portuguese media may not be 100% reliable, but I think there's still something going on, taking into considering the comments of Rui Vitoria, what some ITKs have said on here, and the fact that he's been left out of the squad tonight with our scout in attendance.

Weird saga as this keep going on, but thing is, has Simon Stone at BBC ever been wrong about United news? I doubt he would write that story unless he was 100% sure that Lindelof won't join next month?

That's what's weird. But why was Lindelof dropped, when he's fit, if it wasn't transfer related? I reckon we still want Lindelof in Jan, but are refusing to meet the price Benfica want, so we've briefed BBC, Guardian, MEN and a few others that we're not interested in him, to try drop the price down.

Maybe he wasn't in a great frame of mind after United dropped their interest in him?

Who knows, I'm just speculating obviously

Said club was Benfica too.
There is no season where we have not been linked to a Benfica player and I'm happy that none of them came through.

From Guitar to Garay to Salvio to Guedes to Sanches to Luisao to Oblak even Matic at some point now it's Lindelof and Semedo.

Do we ever learn?

Because what you are describing is football manager. In the real world, there are more factors than simply assembling top players with a top manager. Factors such as structure, mentality, cohesiveness than can only come from time and familiarity. The idea that players have a fixed level regardless of those factors around them is beyond ludicrous.
I know that is the job of the manager.

Find the right players to build your team, players with the right mentality, fit in your tactical vision of how you want to play and make sure they are compatible with eachother. However I think it is nonsense that this is a task that takes years. There are plenty cases of good teams that have been build in a couple of months.

What league was he in when he managed Chelsea?

Chelsea don't have a new squad.

City had been preparing for Pep's arrival for a full season.

Just picking all the major issues with your I demand instant success as someone else who I don't really have a clue about did post.
Oh and just to point out, nothing is won in December.
And United had not ? Mourinho has had 6 months to prepare for the Job.

Chelsea have the same number of changes in their team than we do: Alonso, Moses, Luiz, Kanté and I'am not including Batshuyai here because he doesn't play much for them. And he has them playing in a brand new formation aswell.

Yes Ranieri has coached Chelsea so maybay my words were a bit wrong, he was a new for Leicester and won the title with them.

You are right that nothing is won in december. I'll happily eat my words if Mourinho wins the title at the end of the season but I somehow seriously doubt it.

Guardiola was formally appointed on January .Jose only in June. Those are the facts.

Unless you want to base the entire premise of your argument on the fact that somehow Jose was getting the job regardless of what happened for the last 6 months of the season. That isn't backed by any verifiable evidence whatsoever. Couple this with the fact during that during this period,Jose was in the midst of a very public and drawn out legal case, and this seems more unlikely.Especially when he was only then formally appointed after this case had been resolved.

This appears more to be a case of someone having a bone to settle with the manager, formulating a highly improbable scenario in their head and using that as a stick to beat said manager with.

that would also be equally plausible and very understandable.

Dropping him to protect him from a transfer wrecking injury could be another way of looking at it.

Wonder which defender is leaving in the summer. If the rumours are true then Jose must really rate him, must see world class potential in him and that's very exciting.
Smalling, Rojo, Jones, Bailly, Blind, Fosu Mensah, Lindelof - thats way too many for 2 spots.

JM could even move on 2 of them and we'd still be very well stocked. Not good news for Fosu Mensah though.

You forgot the king transfer rumour that just wouldn't die.

Nicholas Gaitan. we were signing him every summer from 2010 to 2015 until he FINALLY moved elsewhere.

On top of the league
Not in terms of development, but its still a bit funny that there are rumors that one of our defender will be bought to United for 40 million, and its not even our best.

Andreas Granqvist, plays for Krasnodar.
Granqvist has never played at the level Lindelöf is playing. They are two different types of defenders as well. Granqvist is an old school type who will only use his body to play the game. Lindelöf has a totally different depth to his game.

I'm sure Mourinho is going to push Woodward to wrap this deal after watching Smalling today.
