Viktor Gyökeres

Both but maybe next summer is more realistic from our financial standpoint. Because the problem is money. To me, the Europa League loss didn't determine whether he'd be interested or not, it's the financial impact of losing the Europa League that affects our ability to pay for him.

The way I see it, if we could afford Cunha and Delap without the need to sell (as reported by Ornstein), then Gyokeres would only cost about 22m more than Delap, which shouldn’t be a big issue given our impending sales this summer. Simply selling Rashford and Garnacho will likely resolve any issues related to buying another 80-100m worth of additional players beyond Cunha and Gyokeres. That number could go up if we also sell any combination of Antony, Sancho, Hojlund, or Zirkzee as well.

Yeah personally feel it's more whether Ruben can sell his vision of what he wants Utd to look like next season. Plettenberg saying Arsenal interested in him and Sesko but not signing both surely

Gyokeres is not a question if we can afford him it is a question if we can sell him the vision to come here without European football. I suspect he already said no and that's why we advanced things with Delap.

Mateta should be backup target to this guy

I think he would be a brilliant signing. Cunha will improve our attack a lot, but we need a capable finisher in the middle as well. Delap is interesting too, but I‘m not sure if he is that much of an upgrade to Højlund/Zirkzee… Hoping for this to happen, even though Arsenals chances of getting him are probably a bit better

Not getting him now , I think he is a big risk anyway. Could be sensational but could just as easily be a flop, the risk you take with all non premier league proven players. These risks never seem to pay of for us anymore.

He wasn't coming the moment the team lost the final. Players and manager can only blame themselves for the poor performance, the team need to move on and secure Delap.

Amorim said himself about avoiding players who are only interested due to European football. Completely dead in the water.

Plettenberg saying it's off. I don't get what relation it has to Cunha though, we want three attackers not one

Top players are now choosing Arsenal over us, even when we have their former manager who got the best out of that player. That says alot about where we are as a club. There is absolutely nothing about this club that is still elite. No big players, no big manager, not an elite stadium or training facility… we have truly become a midtable club now.

Sounds like their top target is Sesko, like @Redstain said it was only remotely possible if we won final

Arteta wants Sesko while Berta wants Gyokeres.

I want the latter. I don't want another project, I want someone ready to slot in. We are maybe just missing this final piece. Not sure if others will agree

We are missing alot of pieces. We need two actual wingers in the wingbacks positions for this formation to work.

You're replying to an Arsenal fan
 My bad.

Yes for arsenal I think Sesko or Gykoroes might be the missing piece. However some arsenal fans disagree and I have heard the argument made that a LW is a priority as so much goes through Saka on the RW.

Regardless of Arsenal sign a no9, I think it will be last chance saloon for Arteta to win PL or CL. What is it now 5 years without a trophy? This cycle of players need to deliver something...

You’re making the mistake of thinking in transfer fees not packages.

Delap is probably asking for about £80k a week. Gyokeres is being chased by half of Europe including Arsenal and Liverpool and will comfortably demand £300k+.

One is ~£20m over a 5 year contract, the other is ~£80m so with the transfer fee taken into account the difference is a cool £100m.

The idea for the need for a Left winger/Inside forward, is Arteta favor a target forward like Sesko with his height and strength, to be a focal point in the box, ideally he might receive the ball with his back to goal, quickly turn and lay it off to a teammate running into space. Arteta needs a left winger/inside forward who is better at making run behind defenders and run into space, to compete with Martinelli. Sesko is pretty quick and has decent dribbling skill for his size as well. (I personally don't believe Arteta is interested in Gykoroes unless Jesus will be sold this summer)

Arteta is under zero pressure to lose his job in Arsenal when Josh Kroenke is in charge at the moment.

I won't feel too bad if we miss out. I'm concerned about the way he scores the majority of his goals and worried the quality he has shown at Sporting may not be transferable to the Premier League.

I have my doubt on it and United should at least give it a try.

Not sure cost is the issue. Why target a player who wont come?

We are a million miles away from fighting for a title. Why would players with genuine interest from top clubs who compete at the top level want to sign up for our quest to fight for 4th again one of these years, with an occasional run in the second tier European competition- especially now we apparently can't afford to offer extra wages to make up for the lack on on field competitiveness. We are shopping at Ipswich and Wolves for good reason

Normally when a new Sporting Director/ DoF is appointed they want their ownan in the dugout and the current incumbent is on limited time unless he is successful.

Arsenal finish empty handed again next season and questions will be asked of Berta and Arteta. Many a striker and LW will unlock that final piece.

Just speaking theoretically, Nico Williams and Isak in those two positions would be a massive upgrade for Arsenal. When Liverpool are spending £100mil or whatever the final figure will be for Wirtz, Arsenal really do need to splash out on that quality signing i.e. Nico Williams or whomever else is the ideal signing at LW.

If newcastle had failed to make CL, maybe an approach for Isak would have been a tad more realistic. I don't think arsenal are that far off, just need proper quality attacking signings.

Arsenal should chose Gyokeres over sesko but hoping they don’t
I think it’s the other way around. Sesko has more potential and I think he’s going to be more capable in the big games, ultimately.

They are also better equipped to carry until he’s fully bloomed; our predicament and needs are very different - don’t necessarily need to worry about the top-end until we get there, and need a lot of blunt force to get us conditioned and used to winning games again. Our time for finesse is maybe a couple of years from now, and in that time, we’d also get to see whether Gyökeres can become the velvet glove and the iron fist.

Every time I watch Nico Willams, he is pacey, strong and has strong dribble skills, but I don't remember he is good at making run into space and run behind defenders. I have zero clue what Arteta is looking for in his team anyway.

The only one can ask any question in Arsenal is Josh.

There's no evidence that he will or won't come. The club have to actually make an offer to buy him at which point the player can evaluate it and other offers and decide what's best for him.

fecking massive mistake if we dont sign this lad and instead sign Delap as our main center forward

I would prefere Mateta over Delap (or both) if we are not going to sign Gyokeres (which is highly unlikely).

He’s too sought after. We won’t be able to pull this off.

Its a shame really cause we desperately need more goals.
