Vincent Kompany: Man City quadruple a matter of time | Next year?

I expect we'll win the Premier League and the League Cup. We'll make it a fair distance in the Champions' League (possibly the semis) but won't win it, and the same goes for the FA Cup.
I’d love a domestic treble but the focus on the CL further in the season will mean sacrifice somewhere along the line. The league is the only trophy I’m really confident about, because the best team will usually win and I think that’s us. The cups will still be a coin flip; Chelsea or Arsenal in the final if we make it will be a very tough game.

I don't think we are ready to win the CL yet & are still somewhat naive in the competition. We will have to play a lot tighter game against the likes of Barca, Real, Bayern & PSG. ATM these teams are better than us.

Some of those teams might have slightly better squad on paper but at so far this season your team is blowing all of them out of the water in a league that is tougher to dominate than any of their leagues. I'd say it would be an even match against those teams. Madrid while underperforming this season has the experience of winning the last 3 out of 4 CL's and they know how to pull out wins in tough matches. There's a lot of luck involved with winning the CL titles so who knows what'll happen.

It's specifically stuff like "We are the players at the moment who have been chosen to do it. If it's not us then it will be other players". I mean, do City fans even like reading that?
Going back to this bit, it is interesting the amount of 'churn' they've had in four years.

City players left from that season
Aguero (starter)
Fernandinho (starter)
Hart (loaned out to West Ham)
Kompany (squad)
Silva (starter)
Yaya (bench)

Other teams:

Man Utd
Carrick (squad)
De Gea (starter)
Fellaini (bench?)
Johnstone (loaned out to Villa)
Jones (starter)
Lingard (starter)
Mata (bench)
Smalling (starter)
Young (starter)
Valencia (starter)
Wilson (loaned out to Sheffield United)

As someone said last night, the back five we fielded were at the club in 2011.

Liverpool
Flanagan (reserves)
Henderson (starter)
Mignolet (Mignolet)
Sturridge (loaned out to West Brom)

The only side who have had more of an overhaul than City.

Chelsea
Azpilicueta (starter)
Cahill (squad)
Courtois (starter)
Delac (longest serving Chelsea player with 9 loans to his name)
Hazard (starter)
Kane (loaned out to Oxford (7th loan))
Luiz (bench)
Moses (starter)
Piazon (loaned out to Fulham for last two years)
Wallace (reserves?)
Willian (squad)

Chelsea's numbers padded out a bit by their loans.

Tottenham Hotspur
Dembele (starter)
Eriksen (starter)
Kane (starter)
Lamela (injury table)
Lloris (starter)
Rose (injury table)
Vertonghen (starter)

Arsenal
Akpom (loaned out to Sint-Truidense)
Bellerin (starter)
Campbell ((yes, that one) loaned out to Betis)
Cazorla (injury table)
Koscielny (starter)
Martinez (loaned out to Getafe)
Mertesacker (bench)
Monreal (starter)
Ozil (starter)
Ramsey (squad)
Wilshere (injury table/starter)

Probably missed one or two players but got the player info from wikipedia.

Kompany's prophecy could be fulfilled this year. It's a real prospect and you gotta say it's brilliant planning from the owners to lay these foundations for the current manager to arrive and complete the work started by Mancini.

Not sure any reasonable City fan expects us to even get close. We'll win the title and I expect us to beat Arsenal at Wembley, but the squad isn't big enough to win all four. We're a fantastic side but we're not perfect.

Kompany talks a lot but I think it's harder for an English team to win the quadruple then for Bayern, PSG, Real or Barca because the internal competitions are a lot harder to win. He is also talking of winning with Belgium a price but when was the last time they won a game to a team who starts an tournament as a favourite. i don't say they will not achieve that but I think it won't happen in the next five years.

Quite amusing that since this thread was started 4 years ago, City haven't even managed the double. All they've managed is 1 league title and 2 league cups. They might manage to win both in the same year this year though.

So a double then in 2014?

Eh they already won both in the same year since this thread started....

I think with the luck of the draw they can win all 4. CL I think would he the toughest . FA cup is not a given but with the luck of the draw they can go all the way. A bit controversial but won't be surprised if arsenal beats city in the final of the LC.

CL draw has been incredibly kind to them. Walk through tie and Real or PSG will be out by the quarters.

I'm hoping PSG win it this year to stop City.

Quite amusing that you decided to be a smart ass without engaging brain first (unless you're gonna decry the same League Cup that you were proud to win last season?)

The same Basel that have beaten United twice?

Once, you can hardly use the 2011 defeat to talk about basel now.
It's an indication that the St Jakob has been a hostile venue for visitors for some time. The OP was being disrespectful to them.

Because they're an easy team, we sucked against them at their ground, not because they were good, City have the easiest fixture out of everyone.

If they're easy why are you 0/2 against them at their place?
We have notoriously had tough groups almost every year whereas United's groups have been powder puff in comparison. We cannot complain about Basel but Sevilla are not exactly formidable.
We got slated for drawing Bristol C in the LC just after they'd put out United.

We were pretty much 1st in the group when we played them again, we had nothing to play for.
Either our groups are easy and therefore basel is easy for you, or they're not easy and basel are not, you can't have it both ways.

City have generally had Group of Death" tasks in CL whereas United had favourable groups. Ours was slightly the harder this season but we won it with 2 games to spare whereas you still needed a point in the last game to make mathematically certain.
We now likely have the easiest opponent but they're not so terrible that they can't give United something to think about at their place.
At this stage there are no "walk through" ties as the other guy described it. Basel, Sevilla, Porto and Besiktas all deserve some respect.

feck the cnuts. Quadruple talk shouldn't happen until you're in three finals.

It's not Kompany we should be laughing at. It's the drama llamas on here who were predicting it.
