If it ends up 4-0 or worse then Pep will go all out to beat us to ease the sting of this result.
Wake up Pep. There's no reason to rest players if this doesn't change.

Many posters seem to believe that this is a final, whoever advances is going to win it all! That's really absurd! I hope that Liverpool progresses because they will be smacked by Real/Barca.

Really just wish we were still in this :(

I'm enjoying watching Pep... I can't decide how the press will spin this if they get embarrassed.

Let's hope to God that's the case!

That said, seeing Ronaldo dump Liverpool out of the CL would be a sight to behold.. I'd get a framed picture for my wall of that. I'm serious!

Real/Barca/Bayern ... is there anyone who really believes that *this* Liverpool will beat TWO of these teams to win it all???

For as impressive as this Liverpool side are and for as much as they're very good at performing on the big occasion, I do think they'll struggle to get past two out of Bayern/Barca/Madrid successively due to some of their weaknesses nearer the back, barring an 05 style shock. City would've struck me as the bigger threat overall, but then not the first time a Guardiola side has crumbled in the latter stages of the CL so not too confident they'd win it either. So as much as I don't want to see Liverpool winning it, seeing City get humiliated after a year of smug dominance is good fun.

That surprises me. I would expect that most United fans would prefer Liverpool winning the CL to City. Liverpool have won it plenty times in the past and have won it (fairly) recently too. City breaking their duck would surely be worse? Better to let them continue to be a little club with no real pedigree, no?
You do realise the only thing the scousers have over us now is 5 European cups? I couldn’t stand them being 3 ahead again... ‘6 times la’. All of City’s success is artificial and I don’t think the majority of fans really care what they achieve.

Exactly. Also, pound for pound, City fans aren't half the cnuts the Scousers are. The shit with the bus today, fecking hell, for a fan base so in love with their own poetic imagining of themselves, it wasn't exactly "class".

Ottamendi was an absolute joke tonight. How much has Pep spent on that defence?
Stones 50mil, Walker 50mil, Otamendi 44,6mil, Laporte 65mil, Danilo 30mil, Ederson 40mil, Mendy 57,5mil, Bravo 18mil, all on Euro
Another 300mil incoming for defense this summer by the looks of it.

I believe City to be more of a threat to Madrid, Barca and Munich and so Liverpool beating them makes perfect sense as the scouters will have no chance of beating those teams.

This is actually a pretty good scenario for us. Liverpool out. Set up for a United league win at City.

From an annoyance standpoint, Klopp has been more cringeworthy from what I remember this season. And I still consider Liverpool bigger rivals.
Step 1 complete. Expect a weaker side in step 2 and step 3 sees loserpool knocked out. Saying that I think if city win the second leg they will have the belief to win again and possibly win it. Indont see Liverpool beating Madrid or Barca or Bayern. City will give them all a run for there money.

Cant for the life of me understand United fans that want Liverpool to progress at anything.
I want liverpool to go out but i think the logic is,if city win then they could go on and win it. Cannot really see liverpool beating barca madrid or bayern. Eaxh of them would destroy Liverpool.

The aim is for both not to win the cup! This match is nothimg.

I was actually pleased for Liverpool to win a game for once. Hear me out. Yes, as a United fan I hate Liverpool with a passion but at the very least you can say about them is they're a 'proper club', self sufficient and do things the right way. I am very much against the whole sugar daddy thing where meaningless clubs can be dragged to the top by bottomless pots of gold, they don't deserve it and it ruins the game in my eyes, its akin to cheating imho. Also, I don't for one second believe Liverpool can go on to win the CL, however before tonight I genuinely though City would be capable, so for me a Liverpool win and Liverpool progressing would be my preference. Proper club vs Phoney sugar daddy project. Don't misconstrue what I am saying, I hate Liverpool but in the current climate of things, I genuinely think I hate City a little more. I have to put up with more berties than I do dippers on a day to day basis. This result tonight also means City will be both weaker in terms of starting lineup for the derby, and also absolutely demoralised.

I don't think city deserve to go past if they concede 3 to us, I understand we are underdogs but in football everything is possible especially when Liverpool is playing as underdogs. We are not in semi-final yet but if it happens I will like to avoid Barca and Bayern. Those teams are as good at the back as they are going forward, Madrid isn't easy either way as they are clearly the best team in this format as their 3 in last 4 years years but Madrid doesn't have the intensity of Bayern or barca. I think their style can play in the hands of Liverpool.

If I'm being honest I'd rather Liverpool to go through than City. But that's because I've never really seen Liverpool as a serious rival, having started to watch football around 2003 (aged 9) they've never really challenged us for anything barring maybe that one season in 2009 I think it was. City on the other hand have been annoying ever since the Sheiks took over, with Tevez, 'Aguerooo', this season etc lingering in memory. I also have a few close friends who are Liverpool fans, and whilst it is amusing to see them suffer, I wouldn't begrudge them some success at least especially given how well United have done over the last 20 years. All in all for me as a younger fan I see City as a bigger rival to us over the last 10 years, though obviously historically longer-term that's not the case.

I'd actually say the opposite, Madrid would be the hardest for you because their playing style is the closest to yours. And man for man barring Salah their team is better in most positions, and so it really becomes about who turns up on the day. Barca on the other hand have a defence and playing style that your front 3 would get more joy from, and Bayern whilst still being a very good team are a level below Barca/Madrid due to some of their declining players as the last couple of years in the CL have shown.

Liverpool would win their 6th EC/CL if they win this as compared to City's first. You might have started watching in 2003 but surely you're aware of our and Liverpool's standing in the game and where another CL would take Liverpool in that regard?

Doesn't really bother me, to be honest. We've no control over it, we've won more of every other trophy than them, 5 vs 6 doesn't really mean much to us since we're not likely to win one any time soon, and I think Barca or Madrid will beat Liverpool anyhow.

We've got no control over City either. Yet you'd be bothered by them winning it. 5 Vs 6 means a lot. A difference of 2 or 3 between you and your greatest rivals bar none is a huge deal. Not to mention that they shouldn't be any more likely than us to win a CL really, but they seem to be. We should be looking to close the gap obviously. The next best scenario is for it not to increase.

Strange to see a United fan not care about Liverpool winning.

I don't think Liverpool have any chance what so ever to go through against any of Barca, Madrid or Bayern. Those teams can actually defend unlike overrated 250 m city defense who is untested so far because all they do is hold the ball so much.

And as far as Uefa's Spanish bias goes I won't be surprised at all if they meet Madrid in the semis with first leg at home at Anfield for Liverpool. I could bet that English teams were going to be paired together as you will never see Barca Madrid face off so early in quarter finals which will spoil the fun for them.

Hah I was waiting for that comment, but context matters. Any other situation I'd rather see Liverpool lose, but the context was the whole reason for this thread. Just my preference for the aforementioned reasons, it's more I'd rather see City lose than Liverpool. I.e. I dislike City more than I do Liverpool.

Context doesn't matter at all. A United fan should always want Liverpool to lose under all circumstances.

No, not Lisbon..Lisburn!
Two factors to consider:
City winning the UCL would be unbearable and the Pep media sycophants would be hailing this treble (even though we know it is not THE treble.)
Klopp is a specialist in final failures so nothing to worry about in my opinion.

True, but I don't think they'll make the final anyway.

Not really. We all wished Stevie Me didn't back pass assisting Chelsea in 2010.
