When was the last time we scored a truly great goal?

We don't really have a player like Rooney who guaranteed you a wonder goal every season

Pogba against Swansea was pretty cool. Great technique.

Martial against Stoke a couple of years back. Nice team goal with a great finish.

The last good goal we scored was Scholes' vs Barcelona. And that was shinned too. @Solius

I thought Rashford's 2nd v Chelsea this season was a great goal. I love the power he gets on it and the pass is unbelievable from Pogba.

The reason it seems like we don't score as many great goals as other teams is because our players are obsessed with scoring amazing goals (constant pointless flicks and Rashford shooting from everywhere), so we're essentially constantly reminded about all these great goals we're not scoring.

Good question. I've often wondered the same myself recently.

Off the top of my head Pogba vs Swansea, Rashford vs West ham.
I feel like this goal has gone largely forgotten, it was amazing technically, particularly considering he was still 18 at the time.

I also really like his first goal against Liverpool at home in 2017 18 when he cut inside and lashed it into the net; was my favourite moment of that season.

Now I’m sure these goals come to mind for some of you reading that title:

Martial vs Cardiff - Good goal but City score that kind of goal every week

Pereira vs Southampton - Many better bangers scored than that. See Douglas Luiz the weekend just gone.

Mkhitaryan scorpion - Offside and Giroud did it better a week later.

I’m talking about a truly amazing goal that has people talking about it for the next week or two. From the top of my head it would be Van Persie vs Villa or the Rooney overhead kick. I feel like Evra’s didn’t last long enough in the context of the game for it to have a proper effect.
Mkhitarian’s was fantastic, irrespective of it not being called offside, and particularly irrespective of Giroud scoring a week later. In addition, Mkhis was more Cantonaesque, conscious geniality, while Giroud’s was more of a lucky punt, a reflex that just hit the TV spot.

I’ve a particular taste for dramatical flair goals like Berba scored a few of vs Liverpool for us, but in terms of technical/tactical completion and undefendability, the Pocba to Rashford vs Chelsea are as good as they come, and certainly more impressive than most overhead kicks and half way line goals.

Yep the one against liverpool aswell was amazing. He has given me Brazilian Ronaldo vibes at times but in all honesty I'm not yet convinced that he is consistent enough.

One thing that does irritate me is his free kicks - he uses the same, almost identical stance to C Ronaldo but he simply isn't a dead ball specialist imo.

WTF? We've scored plenty of great goals even in recent times. And as a team goal that Martial goal vs Cardiff is pretty much as good as they come. City don't score like that every week don't be silly. As for Pereira's goal, well I agree, it was a very good goal but not "truly great". Mkhitaryan's scorpion kick goal was truly a great goal, better than Giroud's imo. But that was friggin ages ago, we've scored several since then.

Valencia's screamer against Everton comes to mind. Matic's winner against Palace, especially considering how late it was. Young's free kick against Watford a while back was friggin majestic, what a free kick!

What a negative post.

We've scored lots of great goals in recent years, not sure what the OP is on about?

Pogba's goal as well in this video was good too.

Depending on what you would class as a great goal.
To be honest, in the position United are in, I really couldn't care less how a goal is scored.

Have a soft spot for this one. Practised. Precise. They didn't view Blind as a threat. Got punished.

But you have to go back to 2011 for anything Puskas worthy.

Martial against Stoke was a great goal

I like this goal but he has another one vs Stoke and one against Everton where the difficulty of what he does for me makes them great goals. I think they are both assists from Pogba where Pogba lays it across the18 yard line but in one of them the ball is travelling much faster and Martial takes it on first time and whips it in to the corner.

What's the definition of a great goal? A great individual goal or a great team work goal?

Rooney’s halfway line goal v West Ham was quite something. Matic v Palace to complete our comeback was pretty spectacular too.
Yep another magnificent goal (Rooney's).

If this one or Martial's goals Vs Liverpool/Everton/Stoke are scored by, let's say, Henry is a title winning season for Arsenal, the perception changes to that of an iconic goal.

Wasn't particularly amazing but Pogba's first goal against City when we came back from 2-0 to win 3-2 was quite inventive.

Pogba's pass to Rashford in the first game of the season (Chelsea).

The (magnificent) pass, first touch ball control and pinpoint shot in the corner of the net.

Mlhitaryan scorpion was better in my book than the Giroud one. The Giroud goal looked spectacular because it went in of the bar. But, I reckon any of us could think to try that in a match and many probably have. You might even get lucky when you throw your leg behind you like that and the ball goes in. Mkhitaryan’s one always seemed much more controlled in my eyes
