Why is Ole allowing himself to be used like this?

Sorry but, the Sanchez comment is just baffling and completely unnecessary. If it's supposed to be a subtle barb at the owners, it doesn't hit the mark; if it's what Ole believes, then he should keep it to himself and not stoke an already incensed fanbase; if we're going to try and move Sanchez on in the summer, then these comments also serve zero purpose.
After watching the video, I think the Sanchez comment has been interpreted out of context.

Oh sweet summer child. He's earning ridiculous money (running in millions) at a top club he would have never been employed in at the first place if it wasn't for these incompetent owners. Is it therefore so difficult for him to take it to the chin? The only ones suffering here are the fans. We're actually paying money to see this tripe while we're watching our beloved club descend into the ridicule. For Ole and most of the legends Manchester United is a job they once had/or still have.

If he really cared about the club he would resign now and let the fans know he isn't be backed by the Glazers and Woodward. We just want the absolute truth at this point. His status at this club has come into question for me now. He's clearly not doing a great job and just like all the other managers waiting for his pay out when he gets sacked.

He isn’t trying to get himself elected. He has a job he’s paid to do and he’s doing it to the best of his ability. His statement was intended to maximize the value of Sanchez on the transfer market, and, barring that, create the best atmosphere he can for Sanchez’s return if it comes to that. It’s well played.
We have a winner.

Ole knows that a new striker isn't coming in. He thought he was getting Haaland. It didn't happen. Reality is dawning on him. He knows he won't be getting other players unless we sell first. So, he's protecting Alexis. If talking him up gets him a move he can use the money for another player. If not then maybe it lifts Alexis' morale enough for him to do a job for us. Alexis has been awful for us but, in retrospect, no worse than Andreas or Lingard have been for the past season.

I'd love to know what he's based the 'prove us all wrong' comment on. I think, much like his tactics, it's based on blind faith and nothing more.

He's out of his depth, needs to go before his legend and legacy at the club are torn to shreds.

He wants to keep his job and is afraid of losing it because he knows very well he'll never get a job as big as this in the rest of his career.

Because he's their yes-man. Mourinho was the absolute opposite so Ole figured if he's licking Woodward's ass and doesn't complain, doesn't 'throw our players under the bus' and talks some absolute bullshit he'll stay in the job longer. Joke's on him because he'll get sacked just like Mourinho and he's making himself look like an absolute moron at the same time.

Since when has going to war with the owners ever done anything other can cause problems. Jose does it at every club he goes to and it ends up in disaster every time. Don’t know what’s wrong with this fanbase, Ole is doing everything right here. What the feck do you expect him to say? Whether Sanchez is staying or going, his comments are exactly right. It’s the way Fergie did things too, don’t give the papers ammunition and keep your cards close to your chest. Keep your disagreements internal. I swear the rabid hatred this fanbase has for Ole has made them totally blind to reality. If you look at everything he does with the view that he’s doing something wrong, you will find it. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

The way he changes his tune after each week is baffling. In April he was saying how this will be the last of many players and we will buy new set of them only to reduce that number to 3 to 4 in July to even further reduce it to 1. Then sometime in October or November he was emphasizing the importance of adding new players and utilizing each transfer window to now just saying Sanchez is good enough. What I am worried is maybe we will hear the same in the Summer and will end up with just one or two players. This is not good enough.

Why is Ole allowing himself to be used as a puppet?

Easy...£7.5 million salary for 3 years will secure his family, and a few more generations for life, when he was getting just 500K a year at Molde.

Don't underestimate that kind of money on your motivation. Look at Jones for another example, similar security for his generations even when he knows the fans do not rate him. Does he care? of course not, because in 10 years he will look back at 40-50 million in the bank, and won't give a flying one for his 'footballing reputation'. And all us mugs will have paid for a total life of luxury, and financial security that most could only dream about.

OGS? Club legend, and all, and I am sure he loves the club, but this contract has set him for life also. I suspect that has a great deal on why he can still smile, and be totally oblivious to the club dying before all our eyes.

Indirectly, he has a get-out clause though, because nobody (and rightly so) can say it was just him, or entirely his fault, so the reality is, he is in a no-lose situation.

He should also thank his lucky stars that Woodward and the board/owners are being berated as well.

Is Ole as clever as what some of you are making out? No chance, he is just a puppet, a club legend in charge to appease the fans. A brilliant footballer, a genius finisher, and a real legend, but he is out of his depth trying to manage this club run by commercial muppets who know nothing about football. I dont blame him, i feel sorry for him, such a nice bloke but what chance has he got?

To be honest I have never really bought into the legend thing. Yes he was a decent player but my idea of a legend would be Roy Keane or Cantona.

Be that as it may I do agree that he is very much out of his depth and so knows that he has to comply and toe the party line.

I certainly don't judge him by what he says but by what he achieves.
And that is not good enough.
He is there to manage expectations because this club is going nowhere at the moment.

You think ole loves the club sooo much he's gonna forgo 7.5m dollar a year? And another 7.5 in severance pay?

We all assume ole loves united that much, we all love united. But given 7.5m I'd be a city supporter and kiss their badge in a heartbeat

It's his dreamjob, with a club he's very affectionate about. I remember some quotes that he was here to help the club, and i can see the argument tbh. Trying to be at service to the club he loves.

"Allowing himself to be used"...... what else is he supposed to do. He is the manager, and he has an employer. He has to implement the instruction of the board, be that a good thing, or a bad thing. They are his employer, not the fans, not the brand, not the legacy....the board.

Of course he knows they need signings, and of course he knows bringing Sanchez back wont work. But if thats what his employer wants, thats it...end of.

People are judging Ole as if the fans, or the legacy are his boss. He has to work within the scope of options open to him, and right now, with a pretty poor top 6 team, he is doing pretty well to have them sat in 5th.

So get off his back, and go hound the board.

His statement was intended to maximize the value of Sanchez on the transfer market, and, barring that, create the best atmosphere he can for Sanchez’s return if it comes to that. It’s well played.
You don't do that at the end of an extremely contentious transfer window in which the club has done nothing to aid the squad or any aspirations for the remainder of the season. In fact, it's about the stupidiest thing to do at this juncture in time.

There's a Euro on in the summer and a massive amount of time to slip info like Sanchez in where it can be both disseminated and processed well before the new season kicks off and within the veil of signings or what have you - this is the equivalent of shooting oneself in the foot, and it's a bizarre thing to do.
"SHILLING"
You know, the internet uses that word incorrectly and it's time it stops. First off, shilling is a coin. A shill is someone who pretends to be someone or present a fact or opinion without disclosing the he or she has tight relationships to the owner/interest parties that he/she is defending.

I think we can say without much doubt that Ole does not hide the fact that he knows the owners of Manchester United. Also, you are out of your mind if you think going public with any discontent is going to create positive results. The only person that will satisfy is your own blood lust over the perceived lack of action, and quite honestly - are your feelings more important than the public image of Manchester United?
a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty.
Take your pick. There is no way you mention such an emotive player at this juncture... unless, let's buy it was a boneheaded blunder because he was mentioning January signings and got stuck. Read which way you wish. It still all falls back on Ole.

Lets pretend that Ole say "I have not been backed, and i am shocked at the state of the board". Ok then what? What happens now?

You get the press writing op-eds for a week straight about the miserable state of the club
You get players being affected by negative press - where there is enough already
You get the managers position being questioned referring to the "anger at the board" - The last Manager who come out to publicly cry a lot was universally loathed for his endless complaining about transfers and his own players and was promptly fired. If Jose Mourinho had been someone who can take his grievances in private only, he'd still be the manager of Manchester United.

Do you imagine that OGS being negative in public is going to accomplish literally anything? If you're going to say yes, or even "No BuT hE's a Sh11L". Let me just stop you right there. No, nothing good will come out of it. The only person that will receive ANYTHING from OGS being negative is you, because you are looking to have all your anger about the clubs management validated by its speaking voice.

Frank Lampard has come out and spoken negatively about Chelsea's Transfer business. That doesn't achieve anything. The fans are already loudly complaining about the lack of transfer. No new information was given. No new action was taken. Bad publicity press was written. No one won anything.
At no point have I mentioned a positive spin; Ole didn't have to say anything about Sanchez and we would have been as you were. Instead we've got a fanbase more incensed than they were before the press conference. It's been a cataclysmic day for him and a part deflection for those above him as he [Ole] is directly in the firing line.
Fans of football that expect the leader of the player group, many of whom are still developing youngsters who are in need of strong guidance both on and off the pitch as to avoid losing their footing, to suddenly turn away from this positive persona that always backs his players no matter the struggle, and never speaks negatively about them, to come out in public and denounce the very project and the players he's working with?

OGS is charged with developing the biggest young talents this club has had in 20 years in Greenwood, Rashford and Williams. There is going to be exactly 0 words in public that will negatively affect that head space for the players, the fans or the press.
The OP states the knock-on effect of what's happening and the jeopardy of a frail squad then relying on kids and overusing them, which again falls at Ole's feet when things go wrong. A disservice is being done to the same kids you mention by Ole playing the fool and if they are injured or suffer a deep decline via overuse, guess who'll get the blame for that?

if Ole wished to throw Sanchez 'a bone' it would be done privately. Mentioning Sanchez serves no purpose whatsoever other than to assuage his return. Mentioning him being able to prove everyone wrong when he's a player fans want out of the club prepares for the likelihood of us not being able to shift him and his wages.

You, nor I, have any idea what Ole has or has not told Sanchez in private. None. The player is however contracted with Manchester United. Why do you need to be prepared for the inevitable fact that he could return here? He has a contract with the club, you should just assume that that was always the case. i refuse to believe that you are somehow surprised that Alexis Sanchez is returning to Manchester United following a loan spell where the player has been injured most of the time. There is no way you did not know that. Like, hell. What do you expect the club to do? Refuse him to participate in the off-season and work overtime to find him a new loan club 6 months before a club will even consider if they need him? This discussion is so wildly pointless. The manager has given a player contracted with the club a public challenge. To return and prove himself the player we thought we bought, or away he goes again.

it only takes a Caf specialist to be angry and upset about that. I bow down you you in all your grace and splendor. I mean, hell. The contract was always going to be there until the day it expires. You know damn well no one are going to eat all of that at any point in time, nowhere near. If someone takes 50% of it its a miracle.
You're writing a lot whilst seemingly not taking the points on board. Nothing, nothing at all needed to be mentioned in regard to Sanchez. See my reply to Amerifan above - Ole's built a rod for his own back... whilst allieviating some pressure from the club itself.

This, the only real losers in the mediocrity that has swept through all areas of the club is the fans, well almost all fans, I have little sympathy for the fans that believe and defend the PR rubbish spouted by everyone at the club from Woodward's briefing's to Solskjear's interviews to a lot of the players tweets of pretending they are sad after a bad performance but vow to come back stronger.

He’s not ‘being used’. He’s an employee, for a start. And a football manager. He may not have the perfect conditions to be a football manager, but even if we were in the Championship, someone needs to be the football manager. It’s a job, and all a manager can do is do it to the best of their ability with the resources he has.
A sensible comment in a sea of, frankly, shite.

The Sanchez loan deal was always going to be 1 year, and if Sanchez performed well Inter might have bought him out.

Sanchez has been injured as per usual, and since Inter will not extend, he will rejoin Manchester United in the offseason just like last year, and will be given a shot at proving himself like everybody else will in the pre-season tour. If that doesn't work out, away he goes again.

The only thing Ole just did is to throw the player a bone.

Can someone explain to me why everyone are getting all up in arms over a player returning from his contracted loan spell? Is everyone looking for something to be offended over this morning?
Too much sense in this post Tom.

Ole loves the club, but if he can safeguard his own future and that of his family by toeing the party line and not upsetting the apple-cart, you're damn right he will do that. I'm sorry, no human being puts their love for a football club ahead of the future of themselves and their family. That doesn't mean I'm saying Ole doesn't love the club, not at all, but it definitely takes second place to his own livelihood (and that would be the case for every single person alive).

Phil Jones too. I don't doubt he loves United, but when he retires he won't care less about the MEMEs of his gurning and mistakes, he'll look at his bank balance, his family and say "it was all worth it in the end."

Fans need to get themselves out of fantasy land - none of these men love the club more than themselves, and nor should they. This is a job. Nothing more.

He's too soft doesn't have the personality to apprehend and be controversial. That's why he won't succeed here, notice that when Sir Alex praised Klopp and announced Liverpool winning the league he notioned Jürgen having a big personality. I feel that's exactly what this club needs, before anyone mentions Jose there's a difference between personality and egotistical.

I'm certainly not aiming personal shots but I also question Solskjaer's intelligence you can galvanise this from his conduct in interviews, his lack of depth in assessing the teams performances, many of his contributions especially when making points lacks sense.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
He isn't allowing himself to be used... he earns millions a year for this.

The fanbase are the ones allowing themselves to be used - and have been for 6 / 7 years.

Utd will only change when that fanbase wakes up and says 'NO' to being used any longer.

The most reasonable explaination is because he's very lucky to have got the job and he's lucky to still have the job with his results

If Ole believes that Sanchez would be able to prove people wrong next year, then why loan him this year? We couldn't sign anybody to replace Lukaku and he was sold post 9th August when we definitely couldn't replace him too.

He can't show faith in a player who he has already binned.

The term "used" seems misplaced considering his position as a very well paid employee of the club.

Unless by some miracle he manages to turn it around by the end of the season, he is unlikely to be in a management position by the time Sanchez returns thus won't have a say in where Sanchez plays next season.

Also, I honestly believe Ole says the first thing that comes into his head without regard for the consequences. I don't take him seriously these days.

Only way to keep a job he never should have got, he’ll never get another Premier League job once he leaves (can’t even go back to Molde as they’ve got better without him) and a big pay cheque.

Ole spoke out against the Glazers takeover, now he’s their puppet and the perfect buffer. That’s just how world works, can’t blame him for doing what is required to keep his dream job.

It's his dream job at the club he loves. He's not going to go to war with his bosses, especially as he lacks the leverage (such as a stellar managerial reputation or favourable current results) to do so.
I've been trying to say this in a million different ways but you just put it perfectly. This is the reason why I continue to be afraid for our future with Ole im charge.

I agree. So hopefully now we can take of the velvet gloves and kindergarten parameters with which we have been judging this "legend" and label him as "just another incompetent" manager our incompetent board has employed.
