Since I created this thread, Arsenal have won 5 out of 16 games they have played (drawn 6 and lost 5), and two of those results were meaningless because winning against Leyton was canceled out by being eliminated by us in CL anyway, and they were eliminated by Barcelona in spite of winning first leg anyway.

Their record in the league has been 15 out of 33 points, they have been eliminated from three competition at the earliest possibility with the exception of the FA Cup but they played Leyton Orient at home.

If there are bigger bottlers in any sport - anywhere - than this lot, I would like to see them.

I was obviously mocking them in this thread but it worked out pretty well.

I would give the odds as follows

Carling Cup - 95%
Premiership - 60%
FA Cup - 33.33%
CL - 10%

Meaning a 2% chance or 50/1 against

The bookies will probably only offer 33/1

I know it was just optimism, but still!

Our biggest defeat of the season was typical of our season?
Yes.

You went from having a commanding position on multiple pots to winning absolutely feck all.

I reckon your biggest defeat of the season was typical of your season. Promised much and got absolutely humped.

What time scale are we talking here?

It's our year? Or number 19 first?

Maybe "come back when you won 18" puts it into perspective. Biggest bottle job in the history of English football.

It went tits up for us after the CC final. Understandable that the disappointment will have had consequences on the fixtures that followed that game, but even still it's very frustrating. You'd think the side would have recognised the need to get over disappointments quickly during a season (particularly seeing how the last 5 years or so have panned out for us), but they just let it get to their heads instead of concentrating on the next game. Wenger can talk about mental fortitude all he wants, the proof of the pudding is that this group of players still can't stomach bad results or concentrate defensively throughout a game. There's an unprofessionalism creeping in there which needs to be stamped out by Wenger.

My personal opinion (radical as it may sound) is that the backline bar maybe Sagna needs to be rebuilt. There's a worrying tendency to just lose heads across the entire backline and it's not individuals either. There is something wrong with the defensive coaching at the club (their naivety when it comes to the offside rule is mind-boggling to say the least), or the players are simply not good enough..Wenger needs to decide which one it is fast, or we're going to have to look forward to even more potless campaigns in the future.

I wonder if the lack of mental strength may not stem from Wenger himself. He did say a few weeks ago that Arsenal had no chance of winning the title. Maybe it was to take the pressure of his players - if so, spectacular backfire.

And they'll (probably) finish fourth.

Champions League qualifying round it is then.
In a weird, twisted way I hope we do finish fourth. Wenger needs to wake up and stop deluding himself that this squad is good enough to win the championship..it's not. Anything that might make him see sense, I'm all for, even if that means finishing fourth.

He became the best player in the world at 27 and then lost it a couple of years later.

I don't think that is enough to change Wenger's mind to be fair.

If it turns out that 2 out of Nasri, Arshavin and Fabregas leave this summer then Wenger has a major rebuilding job to do just to stand still.
