How many of that world champions were playing yesterday? Hummels and Özil - and 14-minute-Draxler. Oh, I forgot Ginter who was in the WQ squad but did not get a minute.
It was a very disappointing performance from Germany. They lack decisiveness and creativity in the final third and have for the last three years. They step it up, when it matters. Really? Didn´t look like it at Euro 2016. The best performances recently have been by the Olympics team, the U21 team and the Confed Cup B-team that was still full of hungry players trying ot create an impression. Low will have to be very careful how many WC winners he picks for the Russia squad, cause some seem past it and not motivated all the time. I´d rather take somebody like Stindl and Goretzka to the WC, instead of Draxler and Ozil, if they can´t get their head out of their arse.
The Germans, the South Americans and to an extent the Italians have been like this for a long time. They always step up a gear during competition and do not worry about friendlies too much. Occasionally they mess it up as in the Euros in 2016.
