No, the time to sign Kane was after his debut season for 50 million. Now he's an aging forward with dodgy ankles and Levy will want at least 100 mil, if not 150.
Aging? That's a bit harsh mate. 27 and just hitting 28 isn't old for a striker. The exception would be Rooney, who played league footie from being a kid and was worn out by his late 20's, but he could still put in a good shift until much older.
For the worth of an actual 'ageing player' you should look at Cavani, for instance. He's 34, over 6 years older than Kane, but that doesn't stop him scoring does it? Ok so he can't play twice a week every week but there's no doubting his worth to Utd and even if he couldn't play full games, he'd still be awesome as an impact substitute.
Ibrahimovic is another good example, perhaps the exception at the other end of the scale from Rooney - he's 39, 12 years older than Kane, and has just come back out of international retirement!
Dodgy ankles / injury prone?
I had the notion that he was terribly injury prone / had dodgy ankles too. But, surprisingly, the stats say that's not right- you should check them out because they show that he's not that often injured, and that's quite impressive for a bloke who's the mainstay of a team, and who never gets rested.
Specifically regards his ankles being dodgy, he missed 14 games in the 16/17 season with ankle injury, 2 games in the 17/18 season with ankle injury, had no ankle injury in the 18/19 season, no ankle injury in the 19/20 season and then missed 4 games with ankle injury in the 20/21 season.
So, that's 20 games missed due to ankle injury in 5 seasons, and his ankles are not in decline because, 16 of those missed games were in the first 2 of those 5 seasons and he's only missed 4 games due to ankle injury in the last 3 seasons.
I also think his injury record is exacerbated by him playing for a club like spurs, where he's the player they all depend on (the Harry Kane team) so he gets played in every game possible, regardless of fatigue or minor niggles.
I think you'll agree that he'll get less injuries if he plays at a proper big club like Utd or wherever, because with responsible management and a big high quality squad to lean on, he'll get rested when he needs it and that reduces the incidence of injuries and extends the players effective career.
I think whoever gets Kane will get an absolute top level performance out of him for 5 years, possibly more, and two or 3 years beyond that playing a reduced number of games.
I'm actually not that keen on him (because I think he's a bit of a nob), but I don't doubt that he'd improve the performance of any club he went to.
