Hmmm... I think I'd have to say yes. Messi is undisputed best in the world right now. Love Ronaldo and Bale, but there's no denying it.

Martial could pan out to be a huge star, but things happen over the course of a career and he could never meet his potential. I'd have to take Messi and the instant success he'd bring us.

The people who said no, should be shamed like Cersi Lannister in Game of Throne. Unless, they have a crystal ball or just like the romanticization of player development over common sense.

To be fair, I understand to some point if they said no to most other top class players like Ibrahimovic, Bale, Greizman, etc., but Messi is Messi; perhaps the best player to play football. We can find many more Martial, but there is only one Messi.
Yea, I can't believe this is even a discussion. 4 years of prime Messi, how could you pass up on that?

Yes.

I'd feel a bit dirty considering Martial's ability and potential, but it'd be hard to turn down quite possibly the greatest ever footballer if we could even get, say, three or four years out of it.

Lost in the desert...
I would take 3 Messi years over 10 Martial years. It's not clear-cut, though.
I would take ONE Messi year over 10 Martial years and it is quite clear-cut!

Any team would take one Messi year over whatever! Let me remind you that we would love to have one Falcao year, we paid a lot for just a small possibility, but it wasn't to be... And then Chelsea did the same thing! Messi at his best? Any team would love that!

No.

Messi is on a separate tier, all on his own, among l the footballers I've seen, but I'm invested in Martial. He's my favorite Manchester United player already, and to see him build his own unique, successful, and memorable story at this great club, from an "overpriced" 19 year old to, hopefully, a great footballer, would be special.

Of course, I am assuming he'd stay here for his peak years. I'd take Messi if he's going to bugger off and spend his best years elsewhere as Ronaldo did.

You could pull out about million of old threads that look fairly stupid, especially at this point. That's why you don't bring them out.

Please delete this thread and bury the hard drive at the bottom of the sea incase any other fan base finds it.

What a stupid thread even in 2016 when Martial looked a talent.

What an idiot. There's idealism and then there's this.

My god, this thread is ban worthy . I'd take a 70 year old Messi over the current lazy, inconsistent & moody Martial!

Amazing thread.

The decline of Martial is one of the saddest things about our current plight, though. He's clearly a moody twat with a delicate temperament but he didn't seem to have any motivation problems when he arrived.

Too bad this thread didn't have a poll. I would have liked to see how many of us were batshit crazy.
