Anyone but Rashford
I think we've only seen him as a CB in the tour and generally I don't really rate him any higher as RB compared to Darmian. Both are not of the level required but I think Darmian looks marginally more reliable in terms of keeping the shape and playing down the line like a RB.

Plus I think Mourinho wants to put him on the shop window to sell, hence the armband and praising him after every match etc. So I reckon he will play in the absence of Valencia.
The window will be closed by the time we play Leicester.

Martial for Lukaku and thats will be the team. When the full squad is available i'd like to see:

-------------------------De Gea-----------------------
Valencia-----Bailly-------Smalling--Young
--------------------------Matic------------------------
---------------Fred------------------Pogba---------
-------------------------Sánchez---------------------
----------Lukaku---------------------Martial------
I completely agree. I've been calling for a 4-4-2 diamond for ages as it puts Pogba in his best position and gives Lukaku the strike partner he desperately needs in the box with him. It also gives Sanchez some what of a free role where he can be deadly...

It isn't ridiculous at all. Fosu Mensah is shit and still manages to be a huge upgrade. Darmian is the worst full back in the league bar none. Offers nothing in attack and manages to offer less defensively. Darmian was an equal liability vs Liverpool without any such excuse. He cannot be starting. He should be released.
Alright, you're still being ridiculous still. Ok.

The window will be closed by the time we play Leicester.
And you don't know how the transfer market works. The window is closing for the EPL, but not for the rest of the world. The window closing means you can't register new players, but you can still sell your existing ones so long as the team that buys them can register them in their league for the new season.

Darmian can be sold to an Italian team on the 31 of August and he'll be eligible to play for them all the rest of the season.

I predict:

DDG

Darmian
Bailly
Smalling
Shaw

Fred
Herrera
Pereira

Mata
Sanchez
Rashford

- Martial was planned to start but because of him going AWOL and Rashford cutting his holidays short to return to training, I reckon Mou will prefer the latter.
- Darmian is the only RB we have left until the others return from injury or he gets sold. I reckon Valencia will miss the start

I think Rashford ought to be available; if so would play him on the right instead of Mata.

Sounds like Valencia probably won't make it. Jose would probably pick Darmian but I suspect he will be at Napoli by then. It will probably be Lindelof on the right but I would prefer TFM or even Axel.

So assuming Matic, Dalot, Romero and Valencia are injured, Darmian and Rojo are leaving, and Pogba, Lukaku, Lingard and Young are rested, something like:

-------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
TFM----------------Bailly-------------Smalling------------Shaw
----------Herrera----------Pereira----------Fred----------------
Rashford-----------------Sanchez---------------------Martial

subs: Fellaini, Jones, Lindelof, Mata, Grant, McTominay, Tuanzebe (but maybe some of the returning 4 could be on the bench)

Axel
Smalling (Lindelof if injured)
Bailly (same again)
Shaw

Pereira
McTominay
Herrera* (Pogba if we can get him fit in time, unlikely)

Mata
Rashford
Alexis

It's not great but it's all we have at the moment. Centre back, full back and right wing could all do with some quality additions.

That team on paper 'should' be enough for 3 points. *Fingers crossed* we also sign at least 1-2 more players. Not sure if any of our further signings would be able to go straight into the starting 11, but even if they are options off the bench that would help us immensely. Our options off the bench currently is so poor! Like if it's still 0-0 after 70 minutes, there isn't really anyone who can change the game for us and that is worrying! Unless the likes of Rashford return early...

We'll win it 2-0.

With Pogba, Matic, Lingard, Martial, Rashford (among others) set to return, along with a new central defender, I'm feeling quite optimistic for the season ahead.

Ezekiel Bailly
Louis Shaw

Steven McTominay
Adrian Herrera
Barney

Jonjo Mata
Arnold Martial (optimistic)
Ahmed Sanchez

Because Jose wanted 2 midfielders initially. So McTominay wouldn't of been anywhere near starting in league games had we got another central midfielder.
Rumor was we will sign 2 if Fellaini leaves, Fellaini didnt and we signed one midfielder.

Valencia is injured and has taken a bit of a hit from Mo. Martial has been hammered by Mo for not joining the squad after the birth of his baby. Seems he doesn't want to be at Old Trafford. Pogba and Young won't be back/ready after extended break after World Cup. Matic recovering from surgery.

People have forgotten that when the Red Devils welcome the Foxes to Old Trafford Mo will be missing the spine of the squad.

Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba will be absent as well as England's Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young.

Also with an extended break were Marouane Fellaini, Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Marcos Rojo.

But the likes of De Gea, Rashford and Jones have returned early. They will be lucky to be ready, but am assuming he will throw them in.

So realistically I think the first team will be something like this. I can see Mo going to a back five with wing backs, because he will be thinking he does not want to lose the game. and remember Martial is in the doghouse and does not want to play for us

............................................De Gea.................................................
Fosu-Mensah.............. Jones Bailly Smalling................................ Shaw

Lukaku is out. On extended break and has not returned, unlike Rashford, who I think would be ahead of the wantaway Frenchman who has just been hammered by Mo.

It's almost impossible to predict who will be available!

So firstly I'll go with a worse case scenario.

This assumes that the following players are injured or not match sharp enough to start:
  • Rashford
  • Jones
  • Matic
  • Lingard
  • Pogba
  • Lukaku
  • Dalot
  • Young
  • Fellaini
  • Valencia
It also assumes that no players have been bought or sold, which I pray to God isn't the case this time next week! Anyway:

My Team - Worst Case Scenario

-------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
TFM----------------Bailly-------------Smalling------------Shaw
----------Herrera----------Pereira----------Fred----------------
Mata---------------------Sanchez-------------------------Martial

Jose's Team - Worse Case Scenario

-------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
Darmian------------Bailly-------------Smalling-----------Shaw
----------Herrera----------McTominay-------------Fred---------
Mata----------------------Sanchez------------------------Martial

If I were to get my crystal ball out though and predict what I actually think will happen, in terms of transfers and players being rushed back, which I guess is this whole point of this thread, I'll go with the following:

My Team - Crystal Ball Scenario

-------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
TFM----------------Bailly-------------Smalling------------Shaw
----------Herrera----------Pereira----------Fred----------------
Mata--------------------Sanchez------------------------Rashford

Jose's Team - Crystal Ball Scenario

-------------------------------DDG-------------------------------
Darmian------------Bailly-------------Smalling-----------Shaw
----------Herrera----------McTominay-------------Fred---------
Mata--------------------Sanchez------------------------Rashford

So that last team is what I think may happen!

Even if we land a CB or right sided player, I don't think Jose will throw them straight in, especially as he has options in those positions who have had a pre-season under his guidance.

I do get the feeling Rashford may get thrown in though, even if not fully sharp, in the place of Martial.

Unfortunately I just don't see Pereira starting, as much as I want him to. Just have a bad gut feeling about it.

Longest starting 11 prediction ever . Sorry about that :D

Without looking at all of your lineups first, here's mine and Jose's (not knowing who'll still be on holiday, I'm using our whole team):

I would play high pressing and coach to win the ball back asap. Work rate would be important.
4-2-3-1 With the 2 holding mids in a seesaw, one holding back when the other joins the attack.

DDG
Valencia-Bailly-Smalling-Shaw
Herrera - Pereira
Lingard-Pogba-Sanchez
Lukaku

Decent athleticism and pace everywhere. I'd tell Lingard, Pogba, Sanchez and my 2 holding mids to close down the ball with intensity. The 1 threat will be the long balls to Vardy which Bailly should be able to cut out better than most CBs in the league.

Subs: Rashford, Fred and Martial as subs.

Jose's lineup
DDG
Valencia-Bailly-Smalling-Young
Matic-Poba
Mata-Lingard-Sanchez
Lukaku

I'd move Paul further forward and let him create. Mata can't press and create pressure like our guys... but if we sit back and counter, Juan is one of our most creative.

Darmian - Bailly - Smalling - Shaw
Pereira - Herrera - McTominay
Mata - Sanchez - Rashford

These teams are all so underwhelming. Even with that list of players coming back I don't get excited. Only Pogba and Lukaku and maybe Dalot I'm excited to see. The rest shouldn't be automatic choices really and that includes Lingard and Rashford.
Still lacking top quality on the wings and fullback positions. Could also do with an elite midfielder ie Thiago/Verratti to really complete our midfield but its OK for now.

Ideally these are the gaps we should fill going forward:

DDG
New RB Bailly New CB New LB
Pogba Matic/AP Fred
New RW Lukaku Sanchez

That's potentially a very very good team.
