I was pissed off we decided to sell him and keep Macheda, the lad looked decent enough for Blackburn to earn a season with us. We should have sold Berbatov, loaned Macheda to the championship and kept hold of mame for a season to see what he could do.

Still, with the quality of attacking options we currently have it's hard to care that much.

Let's face it, he was never going to better than Welbeck, Rooney, Berbatov or Hernandez - and would just have gotten in the way of youngsters like Macheda and Keane coming through.

That said, I'm delighted to see him doing well

Let's face it lads.. He is doing a Rossi and is going to be world class. Should have sold Welbeck and kept him.

White text. I really am happy for him though. I like to see players leave and have good careers.

I don't think he was that bad. Maybe not clinical enough for us but you never know. I think someone like he, don't get time as they're not fashionable enough. There was no reason why he couldn't develop into a handy forward for us but we have kiko and a promising trio in King Cofie and Keane so we'll see what he does in the years to come

Really... sell Wellbeck?

Maybe Berba last summer, but Wellbeck... what are you smoking???

Then again that would have left us with 2 experienced strikers at the start of the season... 1 of whom had played 1/2 a season as regular starter... and of course perma-crock Owen.

Considering the prices paid from player like Ryan Babel and Aquilani, I'd think that any player that could play at United and play with the first team and win would be worth at least 10 mil. If we got that for Ruud, Rossi, Forlan, O'Shea, Gibson, Tim Howard and Diouf it would have been as much money as we got for Ronaldo.

Of course we got something for all those players, and we can't all sell our players to Rafa Benitez. But it's a shame our players aren't more in demand.

Now, now, some of them just aren't that good, or their stock when we're selling them isn't high. Forlan was sold as surplus to requirements after not fitting in, Howard was clearly number to to VDS, etc.

I've only seen some of Diouf's goals for Hannover. They seem to be quite simple, about placement in the box, etc. But you need to know how to do that too and as we're talking about the identity of a fourth striker next season, it would have been interesting to see Diouf get a serious chance upfront for us. Still, as we've seen with players like Voronin, there's a difference between doing it in Germany and the highest levels in England.

Always said I'd have rather kept him just because he's different to anything else we have.

Who would you rather have? Diouf or Owen?

The reason a lot of those players were let go for so little was to thank them for their good service to us and to allow them a move that will be beneficial to their careers.

Given we will have neither for next year I reckon, so for the rest of the year where experience off the bench in a high pressure situation counts I would go for Owen.

In all probability, we'd likely be rid of both after the season. It made sense to cash in on Diouf since someone would actually give us money for him, unlike Owen.

I'm slightly annoyed that we let him go.
9 in 13 for Hannover.. an absolute steal.

Not sure how he wouldve fit in, but he never got a chance.

His performance in that league cup game was the worst I have ever seen from a United player. He was a disgrace to the shirt. Good riddance.

SAF needs to stop dicking around and playing Strikers on the Wing, I never thought Diouf was that bad because he had a great record for the reserves, happy he's doing well, never worked out for him here. He had a decent start looked pretty decent on loan too but unfortunately for him Hernandez burst on to the scene and Welbeck started fulfilling his vast potential, that's life though. Hope he continues his great start.

Whenever I saw Diouf he always looked like a good finisher. Other parts of his game were lacking. But he's a good type of player to have for a smaller club like Hannover. I can see him coming back to a smaller team in the PL and doing well.

Glad he's making a name for himself. Was never going to be good enough for United though.

Berba is leaving in the summer. Owen will probably go too.
We'll need a 4th striker. Think he wouldve been a better option than Kiko or Keane for next season.
We couldve kept him for a bit longer...
Hindsight and all that...

Agreed. Imagined if he tried that with Ole. He would have been blasted by all the fans.

Fergie has gotten odd with his moving players around like that. Smith is the worst example. I suppose you can say Scholes was the best albeit I heard Fergie wanted to get rid of him as a youth.

He'll probably be picked up by Newcastle for £5m in a year and score 20 goals in a PL season.

I think it's a symptom of the modern game; Players should be able play in multiple positions now, to give the manager more options tactically.

Well, Hernandez can only play one and we didn't mess around with him, never tried to play him on the wing or in the hole because it'd clearly not work. Rooney has been played everywhere, Welbeck has been used as a winger and we even tried him in midfield once if I remember correctly so you're probably right. Jones is a perfect example, one year at a club - three different positions.

I think Hernandez could be utilised as a high-sitting wing forward who doesn't track back if need be.

Edit: Valencia has also playing in right back position and I believe in his time, Evans has been used across the back line.

I told people on here after the League Cup debacle that Diouf wasn't as bad as everyone thought.

If anyone watched him at Blackburn he was actually decent feeding off scraps. His finishing wasn't that great but he had good link up play and an eye for a pass.
