It depends on his attitude, I would have thought staying is the most likely outcome right now.
You really think the Arsenal board will turn down a likely 20m quid so that Robin can sign for any European club for free in Jan? possibly immediately for a nominal fee.

Can't see it meself like, sounds retarded.

Regarding WC2006

I don't know what constitutes a successful World Cup, But I'd say Valencia had a pretty good WC.
I can only tell he was a beast against Poland - Remember screaming 'who's that fecking tank' in front of the telly. Can't remember how he fared against England.

That must have made for a weird atmosphere for everyone else?

We get a year out of him and a year is a long time in football.
Nar, you'll be hanging around in 4th spot at the end of Dec and a European club will offer you to let RVP go to them immediately for about 7m quid or else they'll sign him on a free contract for nothing.

We're talking 5 months here, not a year.

Is Arsenal are being offered 20m quid, Robin will not be staying.

He is almost 26 and has played a grand total of 2 matches in european football. He was playing in Ligue 2 up till 2010. He screams mid-table player. I just dont think he will be a top four player.
To be fair that means nothing, some players can be picked from obscurity and turn out to be good players.

Look at Grant Holt, hes played in every main division in England, and some were even clamouring to take him to the world cup as Englands 4th striker.

Only this year will prove if he is good enough, but from what ive seen he does look the part IMO.

Wont score as many as RVP, but i think what he offers will help them share goals around the team.

Drogba was more or less the same age as Giroud when he joined Chelsea and we know how well he performed in the PL.Their careers are pretty similar prior to joining the PL but obviously I'm not saying Giroud will perform like him but before judging him as a mid table player, let's just wait a little.

Equally likely we'll be top of the league and he'll sign a new contract.

Drogba was rated a lot higher than Giroud before their moves - due to being a better player than Giroud.

That's for another thread though.

Arsenal won't fall out of the top 4, regardless of van Persie staying or not.

Chelsea and them will probably duke it out for 3rd IMO.

I get the impression we've not got a £20m offer, and that's why he's not going. I tend to think if we leave it til January and get £7m from Juve, that's better than getting £15m now and letting him go to United.

Hadn't Drogba been named French PPOTY and scored 11 goals in Europe the season before joining Chelsea?

He will be there in body but not in mind, no way will he be giving 100%, and the fans wont want him there either.

No point having him rot on the bench, sell for a decent profit and re invest it in the squad, its your only real choice.

£20m now if bought smartly could get you another very good player.

Probably the case right now I agree, but I think a 20m offer will come from somewhere, most likely us or City, and RVP will be off.

He wasn't that great before he arrived nor in his first season in the PL. Only Chelsea were paying silly money.
There was a lot of hype surrounding him after his super season at Marseille due his CL goals.

I can't see you lot bidding £20m. If you do, I'd be extremely surprised, especially since you still haven't sorted out CM and LB. It seems you're preoccupied with a deal that isn't really that vital to you right now. I'd save this one for deadline day.

Yes because Arsenal and United are in direct competition for trophies. Oh wait...
Yes because Arsenal are so rich, they can take a £15m loss just based on principles. Okay..
Yes because Arsenal are more interested in keeping an unhappy player and not spending on someone who might stay more than 6 months and help build the team. Oh wait.
Yes because the Arsenal team spirit is so good that having a guy around who doesn't want to stay will give the squad a real lift. Right.

I've said before in this thread that Arsenal have to possess the ideal that we're in competition for trophies. Strengthening you lot and getting you further away would not help us in this quest.(I've gone all Crystal Maze there).

Apparently the squad is buzzing right now, ultra high confidence and all that. Maybe RVP is having second thoughts?

I don't think we're at all interested in CM.

And LB is not a massive problem as we only need back-up.

Good point, I bet he can't wait to leave the Premiership to sign for Juventus half way through the season to sign for a club whose manager is serving a ban for match fixing in a league that is considered well behind the Premier League and La Liga when he will be able to sign a contract with whoever he wants and get a much better signing on fee at the same time.

Great logic.

Well Giroud was the best player of the french league (despite Hazard being elected).Top scorer, key player and creator of goals for the team that ultimately won the league.
Besides I did say more or less and specifically about the number of years they spent in the french top flight before leaving France (Drogba 3, Giroud 2)

Drogba was rated a lot higher than Giroud before their moves - due to being a better player than Giroud.

That's for another thread though.
It is for another thread and you're right but my point wasn't about their ability but more about their career path.Drogba did play more European competition though

Juve was an example, simply because they've had interest in the past.

Basically I reckon we'd take a cut price from anywhere in Europe above sending him to you, unless you offered upwards of £20m. I don't think that's a particularly controversial point, to be honest.

Nah, the thing is you're fighting for 3rd with the likes of Chelsea and Spurs. Basically, as it stands we're playing for different goals.

Drogba was also a very similar player to the current Giroud.Big strong, very good in the air and a powerful shot. It'll be interesting to see how he evolves
