Out for the rest of the season, has had surgery, hope he comes back sorted next year 
Wondered why he hadn't featured even on the bench for ages. Can't see him returning in all honesty.

Darren Fletcher will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to resolve his ulcerative colitis condition, Manchester United have confirmed. The Scottish international has made two brief appearances for United this season.
Gutted. Hopefully we'll see him back soon.
The club seem eager to insist that this surgery is planned.
Id be inclined to think his career as a top player is over.

The worst part is I for one am not bothered by it now, just a regular occurence on the caf. Can't see to understand why people need to bring it up over and over again. We get the fecking picture.

If this is the optimal time for an operation that was always planned then it might not be as bad as people are making out. Get him back for a full pre-season and hopefully he'll be fit for the next campaign.
For anybody with any knowledge. In concern to his health which is obviously the most important thing at the moment, will this operation "cure" him or will the condition always require managing?
A shame but I kind of expected it to happen at any time. Hopefully this sorts it for good.
You're fecked for life. My mum has it. Some days she can't move for the pain. Other days are like rampant diarrhoea twenty times a day. I'm surprised he came back at all.
I said to my father only yesterday watching the game that I feared Fletcher had had some form of relapse/re-occurrence of his condition since he wasn't involved recently, including last night.

Feel really sorry for fletch once again very sad that this is happened to him, just like Hargreaves once he finally got recognition for his quality he's effectively had a massive setback in his career.
Hopefully this puts an end to it.
The condition will always require managing. Depends what operation he is getting he might be getting the large part of the bowel (inflamed part) removed and the smaller part attached straight to the his back passage. Then he will have to alter his diet and eat smaller meals more times a day. Plus with this condition certain vit uptake will suffer etc etc makes it very hard for him. It's a chronic condition managed by steroids and diet. When inflamed he can pass blood and feel like he needs to go to toilet and do a number 2. But problem being the more he goes the more inflamed his bowel lining becomes and the more he feels he needs to go to the toilet (although there is nothing in his bowel) It will make him exhausted and constantly drained. Hard condition to live with never mind be an athlete. Will never have the energy levels needed in my opinion to be the player he was (sad for him and us).
Why is everyone writing him off? If the surgery is successful won't he be better off?

He'll be better off than he is at the moment considering it keeps flaring up and it is affecting his life. But he won't be back to what he was before he got the condition. Also he may need a colostomy back initially (not always) not ideal for an athlete.
It's a really tricky one with Fletcher. Fergie will want to be loyal, but how long do you give it if he's not showing any signs of getting close to the old level? You can't have passengers at this level, cripes even Scholes and Giggs are attracting loads and loads of moans, and Fletcher doesn't have their pedigree to fall back on.

We seem to be back where I thought we were one year ago. The club and SAF are doing the whole paternalistic thing of standing by him, not writing him off, etc., which is great to see.
Let's hope he gets well and can get on with his life.
That's how dedicated club servants should be treated. Other than the age-old scenario of an injury to Carrick we should be fine.
I reckon the players would also rather have it this way and pull through as a team than get into a panic over the need for a replacement. If it were them they wouldn't want it any other way.
It's not tricky, you buy another player who can do what he does and keep him in the squad. If he recovers, great, we've got another option in CM, God knows we need one, if he doesn't, we're not short. The policy we're pursuing at the moment, relying on him as an important squad member even though he's clearly not been good enough since late 2010 is sentimental to the point of idiocy.
Not wanting to sound insensitive but at what point can you claim on a players insurance?
