In fairness, I don't feel the need to post half as much (much more, tbh) than I used too. I genuinely don't know what it is, I still read a hell of a lot on here, but I just don't feel the need to post or really want too. Nothing to do with the mods or shit like suggested though.

It understandable why the site has a policy of users not posting threads on a topic which is already being discussed in another thread.
If the site allowed users to make whatever thread they wanted, then the site would be cluttered with the same topics and i prefer it that i can go to a thread and find the relevant information/discussion in that 1 thread.

In general new threads are encouraged as long as they're not redundant, it just so happens that some of samabachan's are. He knows that better than anyone...

I believe Redcafe may have the balance wrong on the new thread/old thread issue, and the Manchester United Forum provides some evidence for this.
When I was in the Newbs, I did a little personal research, comparing activity rates on the Newbs, the Liverpool FC Forum on RAWK, and the mains Manchester United Forum. Iirc, there were 10 times more posts/hr. on the first two forums. The 7th or 8th thread down from the top in the mains might go 6 hours without a single post!
I don't know if things have changed since. More Newbs have been promoted, so that has probably helped. (Reading the United forum, it's noticeable that most contributors have only been members for 2/3 years. Senior posters seem to have little to say about football).
But without going to extremes, I think new threads could be more encouraged. I remember drawing an analogy with supermarkets in the past.
They regularly change the layout of their shelves, not for functionality, but because customers are enlivened by the new.
Caftards are no different. The appearance of the same old, same old, has a depressing psychological effect. An interesting question on Valencia, for instance, in the Anthony Valencia thread, might draw 2 responses, if lucky. Pose the same question in a new thread, and it will get at least 50.
I understand mods want to maintain some order and stability. The Newbs was chaotic when I was there. While you were down at the pub, threads were born, danced their few hours in the sun, and died.
I just wonder if a better middle ground couldn't be found.

Banning 'cocks out' is probably the best thing that's ever happened to the place. 'Do not want' should go the same way.
How can people moan so much about a private forum? Some stuff I don't agree with but at the end of the day the mods and such don't get paid to do this.

I have my own issues with the forum in fairness. Over Christmas there was that Gary Neville 2hr 'analysis', just one bloke sitting there with all the cameras on him waiting to hear his expert opinion. Given he's seen as the 'best' pundit it's inevitable that people will see that and indulge themselves in their own 1000+ words of analysis, but it's really dull and killing so much discussion by either boring or intimidating so many posters. I think I've lost interest in reading what 95% of people say and I hadn't even realised until a couple of weeks ago.

This is about my only gripe with the Caf, I only come on here for a bit of entertainment (i'm easily pleased) and "the wit" of the Caf has definitley declined in standard.
I don't see any serious problems on the caf, but since I'm still a relatively new poster maybe I just can't see its decline. But before I began to post regularly I was a voyeur on the caf for several years, so I think can state with some confidence that the caf is in proper working order. Before jumping on here I was a regular on a forum called "thegoalposts", a multi-club forum of United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, others and even a Derby County supporter if I recall correctly. It was a great forum, which had an epic Suarez v Evra thread (I think we closed in on 10,000 posts just on the question of Suarez's behavior toward Evra and the punishment doled out in the Uruguayan), but whoever ran it pulled the plug last year and here I came.
If somebody's got a problem with the caf, I'm glad they feel free to share their concerns here. Every forum could use some self-examination from time to time. Even though I don't agree with the OP or the assertion that the caf is somehow broken, I'm glad he brought it up.

There used to be a lot more flame wars, with giant blocks being quoted for endless pages. I don't really miss those.

Members will come and go and it's only natural that some of the more well loved members will leave or take long breaks, as they're real people with a number of responsibility's, not robots.

I've noticed that Pogue's golden muppet avatar has been removed for some reason, I wonder why? I was just browsing a few old threads yesterday and noticed it. It's not important, but just found it a bit odd.

Flame wars get a bit out of control and we really don't need that here. On thegoalposts there were quite a few Liverpool FC supporters (slightly outnumbered the United supporters) and we had it out on the Suarez/Evra matter. It got too ugly. The Suarez defenders even tore apart the official report and accused anyone who agreed with its findings of being a racist. Madness.
Then there's the political stuff, which I've learned never to step my toes into online EVER again. If you've got an unpopular view (either being a Marxist or a conservative Republican) you're going to get smashed to bits by the online bullies. And that's what we want to discourage, online bullying. But if it shows up I'll ignore it and invite the mods do whatever they do.

When they do the threads get deleted and/or the creator gets sent abusive pms from mods.
I don't want to have to wade through 9 pages on the latest zonal marking blog any time I want to read/discuss a new point regarding new information on relevant and recent events in football.
A lot of the best posters are getting driven away, and I was actually glad to see Geebs back. I hope it means the standards come back up on here as they really took a nose dive while he was gone.
Anyway, I can see most people either don't agree or don't care, but I find myself finding less and less interesting topics and discussions on here since 90% of all threads are circular argument involving mainly the same 4-5 posters.
When I first came on here (about 8 years ago as a lurker, signing up here more recently), I was fascinated by pretty much every single thread, but now I won't even bother opening most of the threads I see as it is inevitable they will be full of diagrams of peoples average positions and people arguing the toss based on these sorts of things.
In fact, theres maybe 15 peoples posts I even bother reading any more, most of the rest I just look at the username and skim over.
Most non United fans see this place as the United equivalent of RAWK nowadays, I don't think much more needs saying.
