GK- Gordon Banks- This legendary English goalkeeper was awarded the Fifa Goalkeeper of the Year six times(1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971). Rated as the second best keeper in the history by IFFHS(International Federation of Football History and Statistics) he’s perhaps most famous for his save against Pele in the 1970 world cup which is often called the greatest save in the history of the football. Every great team needs a great goalkeeper and Banks is one of the greatest ever.
RB- Djalma Santos- He is a former Brazilian footballer who started for the Brazil national team in four World Cups, winning two, in 1958 and 1962. Santos is considered to be one of the greatest right-backs of all time. While primarily known for his defensive skills, he often ventured upfield and displayed some impressive attacking skills. He’s only the second player along with Beckenbaur to be named in three different world cup all star teams. That should be enough evidence of his legacy.
CB- Scirea- Gaetano was an elegant defender, blessed by his god-given ability to intelligently read the offense, anticipate play, and then quickly start a counter-attack by pushing forward whether dribbling like a striker or passing out wide to a midfielder. He was, in many ways, the opposite of his partner Claudio Gentile, he was a “gentleman sweeper” who rarely committed fouls due to his calm temperament and innate technical ability, never receiving a red-card his entire career, despite often playing as the last man in defense.
Here’s what Tardelli said about him-:
«He was one of the best players in the world but was too humble to say so or even to simple think so. His way of being quiet and reserved maybe took away his chance of being better known but it surely won him esteem, respect and the friendship of everyone, Juventus fans and not. This does not mean that he was weak or that he had nothing to say: on the contrary, he was very strong on the inside and knew how to speak through his silence. We had completely opposite characters but got along well. One day, he came to see me by the sea and we played hide and seek, a strange thing for Serie A professionals but it was part of our spending time together and enjoying ourselves in a simple manner. In today’s football I think he would have felt a bit lost but only on a personal level. When it came to football he was very competent and knew how to be authoritarian. Let us say that personalities with his character, nowadays, do not exist any more».
CB- Jan Popluhar- One of the most important players of the great Czechoslovakia team which reached the 1962 WC Final. This Slovakian Central defender will compliment Scirea beautifully and will be one of the strongest central back pairing of the draft.
LB- Bixante Lizarazu- Part of the brilliant Bayern and French Team. Excellent left back who has amazing stamina and who will provide great balance to my attack and defense. World Class at his peak.
DM- József Bozsik- One of the best midfielders in the history of the game, he is regarded as one of the finest deep lying playmaker in the history of the game. Was a very important part of the “Mighty Magyars” which dominated football in the 50’s
DM- Matthias Sammer
Known for his great composure on the ball and box to box midfielder, Matthias Sammer was one of the few players from East Germany to make a real impact on the German national team after reunification. Sammer was voted European Footballer of the Year in 1996, the year he won the European Championship with Germany.
AM Pavel Nedved-- Juventus and Czech Republic Legend. I don’t think many need to be explained about him.
Playmaker- Valderrama- I’ll let Wiki do the honours here
. Between 1985 and 1998 he represented Colombia in 111 full internationals and scored 11 times, making him the most capped player in the country's history. Valderrama was known for the accuracy of his passing, his tactical brain which allowed him to have a strong presence without the necessity of running as much as it would be expected, his exquisite technique on the ball, and his ability to provide assists that were very immaculate.[6][7] Valderrama played a huge role during the golden era of Colombian football during the 1990s. In 2004, Valderrama was included in the FIFA 100, a list of "greatest living footballers" chosen by Pelé to celebrate the 100th anniversary of FIFA.
AM- Juan Alberto Schiaffino- I got him as my eight pick and I’m honestly shocked and delighted to have him so late. Part of the Uruguay’s world cup winning team, he was the second highest goalscorer in the 1950 world cup and also scored the equalizer against Brazil in the final. Was voted as 17th in IFFHS Best player of 20th century.
Tommy Docherty, the hard-tackling wing-half who marked Schiaffino when Uruguay thrashed Scotland 7-0 in the 1954 World Cup in Basle, called him the greatest player he had ever faced. Docherty talked of the moment when he felt he had Schiaffino penned in on the goal line, only to find the Uruguayan, almost magically, slipping past him.
FW- Messi- No words needed.
Subs- Robben- One of the best inside forwards in the last 20 years or so. Will come on and test the tiring legs with his pace
Busquets- Will be used to protect a lead.
