£30m plus Anderson and Young should clinch it.
If he is going, he's going for a huge amount of money. Not some money and dredge.

As it is, I think there's a good chance he'll stay one more season. Whether that's because he wants to or because Levy forces him to, we'll see. Next summer he'll 100% be elsewhere though, regardless of where we finish next year (if he does stay this summer).

I'm inclined to agree with this as well, sadly.

With Rooney, Nani and Anderson leaving I can see us having the required funds to sign Bale and a top class midfielder. Hopefully.

What do you mean Levy is that good? Didn't he sell Modric to Real for what, 32m or something? Wasn't it being claimed that he'd cost in excess of 40m.

There'll be an auction for Bale this summer - when you've got one of the best players in the world at 23-24 and no CL nor the hope of challenging for a league title - and when that happens, it'll be hard to say "he's only going for 60m" or whatever...

My prediction ...Spurs will sell Bale and sign Leandro Damião and Benteke. Maybe even David Villa although I don't know if he'll sign for them now without CL football.

Didn't he sign a new contract this year?

I doubt he would have signed one if there wasn't a clause in it allowing him to leave if they did get in the CL. He knows he has his pick of clubs.

We will have Chelsea and City on our asses going for our title, and no doubt they will spend big. Also the fact we've a new manager coming in, we need to make a big statement. If that means paying £50 million for Gareth Bale, then so be it.

Looked very resigned to leaving to me when he trudged off at the end.

I think hes off.

City will also be after his signature I reckon but no doubts he'd choose us over them unless they offer something ridiculous like 300k a week.

I don't think we would get him for £40million. We paid £30million for Berba. Levy is THAT good.
Even so, we make huge amounts from commercial sponsorships and are about to sign what will probably be the biggest kit deal in the world, if we can't shell out money now and again it's a scandal.

Do you honestly think United is going to bid 50m or 60m for Bale? I would have nothing against it but it just doesn't seem usual for us. It's not going to happen.

We bidded £30 million for Sneijder, Hazard, Sanchez and Lucas so why not £50 mil for someone better than all of them.

We are almost certainly losing one of our 'marquee' players though, we will get 30m-40m for Rooney. Maybe 15-20m for Nani as well, not to mention SAF as retired. This isn't a normal summer id be amazed if we didn't sign a top player this summer and Bale is probably the best of the lot.

The only people I see paying 50m + for him are Madrid, PSG and City.

I think he'd choose Madrid > City > PSG.

If United somehow came into this equation I think he'd choose them though.

That's not very ridiculous for City. Slightly more than what Yaya is making.

They appear to have reigned in their huge wage payouts after FFP came into force. Hopefully that prevents any stupid offer like that.

We've spent most of our recent history breaking transfer fee records...the costs of players have just risen (ridiculously) but its not unheard of from us.

Gareth Bale is the best player in the league

New thread - the old one is too long and is like a history of him going back through the annals.

This guy is the best player in the league - and comfortably.

He can score out of absolutely nothing in a way that only really Ronaldo and Henry were able to do. He is peerless in this division.

The best player in England, and probably in the top four in the world.

We need a new thread. This guy is dynamite.

Well that was a bold thread title considering he won the player of the year award.

That lad that was on loan to your lot for 8 years before coming to his true home and banging them in isn't bad either.

Nah, I've got to the point now where I don't think RVP is close, all bitterness aside.

Bale is the ultimate pressure footballer. How many times has he pulled out ridiculous goals in the last few minutes of games? West Ham, Southampton and now Sunderland are just three examples of contenders for goal of the season, and they've all come in the last five minutes.

That is astonishing football that I don't even think RVP is capable of.

What? RvP has scored some mental goals this year. Bale shoots every time he gets the ball, you'd expect him to score more.

Lot different doing it for Spurs and doing it for United though. Saying RvP "isn't even close" is also ridiculous even though I agree he has been the better player this season.

RVP has scored some cracking goals.

I don't think any of them can match a) the quality of Bale's strikes and b) the time he's done them.

RVP is great, but I reckon with Bale we're talking about someone who could go down in footballing history.

He's easily among the top 2-3 (alongside RvP and probably Suarez) and will probably get better still. A year ago I was laughing at his name being mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo and while he's still not quite at that level yet he's on his way. He's scoring screamers for fun and reminds me of Ronaldo when he starting smashing in goals for us. He's scored 24 this season hasn't he? there's no reason why he can't improve on that next year and hit 30, especially if he's at a better team then spurs.
