Looking at it again, the clause seems to be slightly different from the Bojan one:

Should he be surplus to requirements though it's still Chelsea's decision to sell. Looking at that they would probably take €15m for him this summer anyway he's miles away from the starting 11.

It doesn't say when in the thread but at the time I remember reading about it being at the end of the 05/06 season when he was hardly getting a game.
Hence why Thiago's perfect - all the United love, none of the Catalan-ness!

It was earlier in his career, when he was stuck behind Pep. 05/06 season he tore his ACL, so that's why he was not getting much games. Apart from that, he's pretty much been first choice in Barca's midfield since 2001.

It's almost as if they were looking for a Xavi clone and aren't interested in him as a new variant - the same problem Xavi himself faced in his early days in fact.
Guardiola was more positive about him, but then again a few years back I watched him doing a coaching presentation. One of the most memorable observations was him talking about United replacing #7 Beckham with #7 Ronaldo, and how as a good manager, "You wouldn't ask Beckham to do what Ronaldo does. So you don't ask Ronaldo to do what Beckham does."
Maybe he would have seen Thiago as a positive. Barcelona have Neymar now of course, between him Messi and Iniesta perhaps they feel they've got enough surprises.
