2006 was when we were close to signing, wasn't it? He was out of favour but his love for Barca won out.

Was earlier I believe, around when we signed Veron perhaps? Definitely not 2006 though as far as I remember.

And the rentboys agreed? Pretty weird.

:O Neymar

Looking at it again, the clause seems to be slightly different from the Bojan one:

On 4 August the English club announced the completion of the transfer, with the player signing a four-year contractin a deal worth €5 million. The deal also gave Barcelona first refusal via a buy back option should Chelsea deem him surplus to requirements, seeing Barcelona pay €10 million in 2012 or €15 million in 2013 to bring him back to the Camp Nou

Either way we shouldn't be agreeing to anything of that sorthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Nou

You're probably right there, I thought he'd said it in an interview but apparently not. Just that we're his english club

Should he be surplus to requirements though it's still Chelsea's decision to sell. Looking at that they would probably take €15m for him this summer anyway he's miles away from the starting 11.

Yeah, one thing about the Barcelona players is that they seem to have a lot of respect for our club, more so than other big clubs. Xavis praise, Guardiola always speaking fondly, the fight for Scholes' shirt after the CL final...

Hence why Thiago's perfect - all the United love, none of the Catalan-ness!

Not sure we can afford his release clause in fairness. Otherwise...

I reckon they're also trying to make it look, to their fans, like they've tried hard to keep him. I'm not suggesting they're shooing him out the door in reality, but the fact that every Spanish paper last month reported that they were willingly putting him up for sale, plus the whole not playing him at the end which could have kept the release clause up at 90m euros, makes me suspicious.

Maybe their coaches don't value him as much as other punters?

Thiagoooo

OoohhOhhhhh

Thiagoooo

OoohhOhhhhh

He came from Bar-cel-ona

To completely feck-you-over

We've still got another level to go up before we reach the levels of muppet desperation over Isco on Bluemoon;

You can get a sense of how it's rumoured the current coaches view him here:

It's almost as if they were looking for a Xavi clone and aren't interested in him as a new variant - the same problem Xavi himself faced in his early days in fact.

Guardiola was more positive about him, but then again a few years back I watched him doing a coaching presentation. One of the most memorable observations was him talking about United replacing #7 Beckham with #7 Ronaldo, and how as a good manager, "You wouldn't ask Beckham to do what Ronaldo does. So you don't ask Ronaldo to do what Beckham does."

Maybe he would have seen Thiago as a positive. Barcelona have Neymar now of course, between him Messi and Iniesta perhaps they feel they've got enough surprises.

You speak a lot of sense jojojo, I agree with the above. ;)

I also agree, as it speaks positive about us snatching Thiago, and obviously, anyone speaking ill of the speculation of the move is a MASSIVE BASTARD, as to stay on course with the thread.

Thiago is ours.
Thiago is ooooooooours.
feck off Jamie Jackson.
Thiago is ours.

have really got to stop checking this thread...even the muppets are getting bored now and talking about random unrelated players!

If we get him would it be fair to say he would be one of the most exciting signings since Ronaldo?

Definitely feels that way.. would almost be too good to be true, especially with midfield obviously needing reinforcement.

We'd have replaced Scholes, it would be pretty massive.

Have you guys seen the accidental tweet he sent De Gea instead of a DM? It's deleted now btw.

Apparently it said that he'll be signing on Monday
