There has been a lot of talk about the impending meltdown on here if we failed to pull the stops out today. It looks like it is well underway.

Maybe still better than Arsenal indeed. We're champions FFS, and have been twice in the last three years. Come on people, some perspective.
We have lost Sir Alex. They have added Ozil. If you don't think that they have closed the gap on us than good on you. I'm waiting to see how we do under our new manager, but I don't take other clubs for a bunch of fools who will just let us stay on top for ever. They are trying to improve and we'll know how good each team is after maybe 10-15 games. I'm sorry if I am not cocky enough to say that we are still the best because I don't see it that way. New season, new slates.

We're still better than Arsenal.

It's not quite the easy 3 points it was last season, but we still have a stronger side - mainly because we have the best defence in the league and the best striker in the league.

We are competing with Chelsea and City for the league mate. The gap between us and them has definitely closed, same with Arsenal. Being still better than them doesnt mean much.

Well yeah, but I'm not sure what your trying to say here. Do you think the way Madrid conduct transfers is a good way to run a club? It would drive us into the ground.

If we value Fellaini at £20million and they want £30million then I wouldn't begrudge Moyes for not paying more than what he feels is the right fee. Hes running a business not playing a computer game, at the end of the day he needs to be responsible and paying more than players are worth isn't that. It would be effectively criticising him for NOT agreeing a bad deal, which seems strange.

Like I said though the Fellaini thing is a bit of a joke because of his previous release clause. Should have been tied up months ago seeing as it was always going to come down to this.
We do not exist in isolation, we exist in a market. From all accounts, Everton are not asking for £30m, and we are also willing to go higher than £20m. Because of this, there cannot be more than a few million difference. This would not run us into the ground.

And no, I have no issues with Madrid's transfer policy. It involves them buying very good players for a lot of money, as opposed to ordinary players for a little bit of money. If they can afford it, that would be the logical way to go about having a very good team.

We are not even talking about City and Chelsea here. Teams like Real, Barca and Bayern (who we consider our equals in terms of standing) are not oil clubs, and generate similar figures to us. We, however, are tight gits, who believe in spending no more than £30m at most for a player.

I am convinced that if we were in Arsenal's position (yes, Arsenal!), we would have had talks with Madrid for weeks for Ozil, made a series of rejected bids and pissed them off, only for them to get fed up and accept an offer from PSG. We will then complain about these oil clubs and say that our club 'can't be blamed, he obviously chose PSG for the money'.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
I'm seriously beginning to think we just haven't got money to spend which would explain Woodwards behavior this summer.

Our revenues the Ronaldo summer where £67m, since then our expenditures each summer have been £9.6m, £36m, and £54, a total of £99.

That means the Glazers have only spent £32m on players over the past 3 years which is laughable knowing how much they earn from tickets merchandise the PL and Champions league.

I didnt say that. They have closed the gap a bit. Just like if I am in Manchester and I jump on a train to London, I have "closed the gap" between myself and Ghana. Its just that the distance remains very considerable.

Im not saying we dont need to strengthen. Im just saying we are still a lot better than Arsenal.

Except it's not Ghana, it's the south coast.

This is a fair point - they're not title rivals, nor even realistic top four candidates, but despite the amount of crap Rodgers speaks, he has done a remarkable job to sweep away the crap KKK brought in there. What is being developed at Liverpool now is starting to look pretty impressive, certainly compared to recent years.

So... we might actually buy two players...

I can't comprehend such a notion, thus it won't happen.

I'd have taken Herrer and Fellaini at the start of the Window. Hope Woody doesn't mess this up

If the rumours are to be believed we are likely to be signing Fellaini & Herrera, both are defensive midfielders, didn't Moyes say he wanted one DM & AM?

Herrera isn't a defensive midfielder and neither is Fellaini.

Making us wait til the last day of the transfer window in a prick tease pretence .... and then delivering Fellaini ... is frankly not on.

Im not happy or amused with this new regime.

Actually, Fellaini is a DM. Everton played him as an AM last season because they were short of options. If you go back to 11/12 season, the majority of the games he played were at DM. He's also started this season as a CM/DM (similar position to Clev).

Is it fair to say we are only after Fellaini and Herrera, no possibility of signing a creative player?

Put De Jong or Lucas in AM and see how they perform....

Football, bloody hell.
Trying not to get carried away until things are confirmed, but our squad if we sign Herrera and Fellaini

Now all we need to do is tell Moyes that Kagawa is quite good at football.

Looking at Madrid, for all their scummy-ness, we need to be more ruthless like them, in terms of getting rid of players especially those have obviously failed. Even Liverpool cut their losses with Downing and Carroll, yet we've still got cannon fodder like Anderson, Macheda, Bebe and Young lurking around the club. It clogs up our squad and I can bet it's one of the reasons we've not done any business so far.

The problem isn't getting rid of the players you don't want, it's finding a club who's actually willing to pay money to get them.

To be fair we'd probably let Macheda and Bebe go for nothing during Gill days. Now Woodward will demand £25m for each or say that they are not for sale.

I don't see what's the point of keeping Anderson if we sign Herrera and Fellaini
