Finally got round to watching Stoker the other night. Not what I was expecting at all story wise but I shouldn't have been surprised considering the director.

Really enjoyed it. Visually it's stunning. Some very clever camera and editing tricks.

Definitely one of the better films I've seen this year.

The Place Beyond the Pines - Ambitious, well-crafted, good soundtrack (Bon Iver, Morricone) and even though it didn't hit the spot quite enough with it's ambitions I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

I found this weird. It was a good film, yet I couldn't help but think that they could have made a much better one by focusing solely on Gosling's character.

Out Of The Furnace -

Gritty drama/thriller starring Cristian Bale, Casey Affleck and Woody Harrelson about a guy who seeks revenge on a gang of hillbilly thugs after the disappearance of his brother. Quite a slow film but the acting is great and some of the fight scenes are decent. Forrest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe and Zoe Saldana also co star.

7/10

Survival of the Dead

2/10

We had a discussion earlier in this thread about whether Romero has lost it. This film confirms it. Awful film, almost like an unwittingly bad Western pastiche but with horrendous Irish stereotypes. The lead character having a beard to rival gasmanc's is the sole bright spot.

American Hustle - I had high expectations going into this and they were all met. The soundtrack, wardrobe, and aesthetics are all spot on for the 70s. Cooper, Bale, and Adams are all impressive. Jennifer Lawrence is also pretty entertaining though she's a supporting character. 9/10

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug: Electric Boogaloo - It's obviously beautiful, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I don't have a problem with the additional plot that isn't in the novel, but it's two and a half hours without a real point. If Jackson split two into three, this is the part that was split off to connect the beginning and end. My friend started to count the panoramic walking scenes in the film but gave up after four sequences with multiple scenes of walking in each. The films could have been limited to two and maintained their lengths yet still told the entire story. The extra scenes that show what was happening behind the scenes are good, but there is a lot of pointless fluff. 6/10

Everyone raves about the first act but I didn't think it was that much better than the other ones and to be honest, I found his lack of acting rather distracting. DeHaan now that's a talented actor.

Don Jon - Scarlett Johansen is nice (looking) in this. It felt like a 'star vehicle' film for that guy from Inception and Looper (I forget his name). Wasn't all that funny. 3/10

I don't think those films are going to swing Grinner's opinion.
Especially since nobody has even mentioned Happy Gilmore.

Surely worth the price of admission for "you eat pieces of shit for breakfast?!" alone.

Everything else of his can feck off though. Apart from Punch Drunk Love, which nobody mentioned either.

Click is the only decent film he ever appeared in.
I thought that was down there with his worst! Shockingly dull.

All fun and a bit silly:

Happy Gilmore
Wedding Singer
Billy Maddison
50 first dates

I didn't mind Funny people either, but that was a bit too long.

Anchorman 2:

If you enjoyed the first one, you'll enjoy this. If you didn't like the first one, read no further!

They retread some old ground in this one which often works, but sometimes feels a bit disappointing.
Some people might feel a bit uncomfortable with a scene or two when Ron starts dating his Black Girlfriend, and Champ Kind's in love with Ron schtick gets a bit tiresome.

The film focuses mainly on Ron, and there is a bit more Brick in this one too. Despite the comments above, when some of the material works, it's very funny!

Overall, It's still great fun and very quotable. I enjoy just watching Ferrell be Burgandy!

The Kings of Summer - Was more of a comedy than I was expecting, which is a good thing because the dramatic parts didn't really work too well for me. The main character was a wee shit. Nick Offerman was great. 6/10.

Had a good opening 30 minutes but was quite poor after that. I'm disapointed that Carrell and Ferrell realesed a film of that poor quality.

Riddick (2013)

Could have been much worse. This movie pretty much put Riddick in a back to basics situation, which is good (not Pitch Black good obviously), but with a lot of cheesy lines. The CGI are pretty decent for a 35M dollar movie, i guess.

Anyway, just keep making Riddick films, ill keep watching them.

5/10

Editing my own posts.
Not only do I hate Sandler, and his one shit comedy voice & attention seeking adolescent schtick, but I also hate all of his mates, that he puts in all of his films, and their one, shit comedy voices & attention seeking adolescent schticks.

You know the ones. One of them has a (un)funny croaking voice. One of them has a weird eye. One of them's Rob Schneider. And he's the best one. Think on that. Rob Schnieder is the BEST one

Anymore than 30 seconds of any of them is enough to make me want to eat my own eyes out.

That latest Stiller film looks decent, the one with Sean Penn in it. Reminds me of 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind'. Will probably be a bit shit though, as the rest of his garbage.

The woman in it is not attractive and not funny. So why is she in it?

I don't mind Stiller that much as he tries more and doesn't churn out as much lazy garbage like Ferrel, Sandler, James, Vaughn and the rest of U.S. paralympics team in comedy.

Oh Boy - About a young guy who roams around Berlin, not knowing what to do with his life, just wanting a cup of coffee but unfortunate things just keeps happening to him as the day passes. Nouvelle Vague/Kafka light. I found it very relatable and I even spent a few weeks drifting in Cologne once with nothing to do where I also went to see a weird play that I had been invited to. A truly delightful film.

Ha funny, it's exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer a while ago. Looking forward to it.

Don't start, it's Christmas time.

Cabin In The Woods - Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. Still can't get my head around it how this turned out. If you're in some freaky sheet, then do watch it. NOW.

Santa's Slay (2005)

Starring former WCW/WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg as an evil Santa. For that reason alone I give it 10/10.

(It's actually quite bad, but it's a lot of fun).
