That aerial duels stat really is damning... and that probably doesn't even include the ones he chickened out of all together.

That's why I thought it was weird that Bayern just let him bring the ball down in the second half when we were punting aerial balls too him... as if they challenged for the ball they probably would have won the header themselves. Then @noodlehair 's comment in the post-game thread made me realise they probably let him because he a) caused no threat and b) they had better chance of getting possession back from the ball being at Fellaini's feet then them actually winning the header themselves...

He's not that good in the air is he? He can win a header but Carrick is more useful in terms of actually keeping possession when going for headers. Rarely threatens the goal from set pieces.

I'm slowly starting to see why everyone hates him. Been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but too many poor outings against the big sides just proves he's not the player we should've gone for and he was simply a panic buy.

The fact that his performances against us in the 11/12 season cost us a draw away to Everton and a win at home...irks me all of a sudden.

He can be - has has all the required attributes - and I've seen him be incredible in the air for Everton.

Basically, if he had just the drive and determination that Vidic has when challenging for a ball in the air, he'd win every single one easily.

You have a real issue with him and it's affecting your ability to discuss reasonably, or with any objectivity. Forget the stats for a second - he had a good game against West Ham, re-watch it and you'll see he played well. It's quite clear you dislike the player but when you're incapable of admitting he actually had a decent game them the whole thing becomes a bit pathetic.

Opta have him down as making 4 tackles against West Ham?

The stats argument is a load if bollocks really, because they point to him having a good game. You can cherry pick a few stats which paint him in a bad light but you can do that for any player.
I think i've been reasonable. I've said before that he can be useful against the mickey mouse teams, and that he shouldn't play the big games or against high quality opposition. I think thats a fair assessment going by his pathetic displays in the games that really matter.

There is absolutely no room in this squad for this total lump of shite. He's more useless than Moyes. But we will still have people like @Kostur defending him.

He's stoke quality, get him out of here.

I don't understand how he's being utilised. I'd be really interested in what Moyes is asking of him in games because he plays in loads of different roles in one game without any tactical discipline at the moment which is quite irritating when you're a big admirer of him and have attempted to defend him. I think the seasons playing as a no. 10 have been detrimental to him as a CM as now Moyes knows he can be used as both so (what it appears to me anyway) is that Moyes asks him to do both roles in games but this just means that because he's a CM, if he's miles up the pitch he's got a feck load to come back to. He then decides to zonal mark quite a lot as if Moyes is wanting him to intercept the play rather than make him man mark players (Maybe scared he'll foul them but he's got a better chance of getting the ball because of his strength and it would benefit him better if he is doing that more consistently).

In the game tonight he was up top, he was sitting deep, he was going out wide, he was generally zonal marking in the middle of the pitch and looking at runners but not tracking them a lot (No idea why, even if Moyes told him not to i'd fecking do it). It's like a new box-to-box which misses out the 'to', and it's horrible to watch as he's a very good player, he's just not shown it at United very much so far and it frustrates me.

For such a big man, he's really weak. Doesnt win enough of his headers and doesn't dp enough to hold up the ball.
Should definitely win more headers, I thought I saw Alaba beat him to a header today.

I wonder if he puts in any convincing displays in training. Probably does, because he was always good against United. Just has to tighten up every aspect of his game then we'll see what we've got. I so want him to do well. But he ponces around like an Icabod.

Fellaini should have got there yes, but it's not much you can do about it now, just make him aware for the Allianz

Fellaini belongs on a squad that's up against Stoke, not Bayern. He was beyond pathetic today, especially on the play that resulted in the goal against us. Shameful stuff.

It's actually torture watching him live at Old Trafford than on TV when you see players such as Rooney, Welbeck, and Valencia run back past him busting a gut whilst he just walks or jogs back at his own leisurely pace. Rooney and Welbeck had to cover a lot of his space in the middle due to his laziness and inability to track back.

Useless turd. I got banned from another forum for my criticism of Fellaini, but looking back I went too easy on him.

Just watched the Schweinsteiger goal again. Fellaini was caught jacking off.

It's almost like his ball-winning ability is counter-intuitive, because he just immediately gives it away once we've gone forward and allows them to counter.

I was in favor of signing Fellaini (albeit not as our only signing), but he's done precious little to justify a place in our team regardless of his price.

Was poor tonight. Still confident he will come good. There's something to him. He needs some confidence I think. Seems nervous in front of his own fans.

Taking into account value for money he's the worst signing I've ever seen us make in 26 years as a fan. No work rate, no technique, no intelligence. He can't defend or attack and worst of all he cost almost £30m. Sell him in the summer, I'm sick of seeing this useless lump play for us.

A little bit more confidence and I think he will be a good player for us. People forget its his first season here and his first CL quarter-finals match. And against such a class opponent too.

The most memorable performance he had for us was time wasting at 3-0 up against Olympiakos. For a 28 million pound player, that's sad.

 Its hard not to go hard on him, he's really out of his depth here. Luckiest man on earth to be playing for Manchester United making 125k a week!

Christ he was shit. Not even a Utd fan and that performance pissed me off. It's not just the fact that he loses the ball, messes up attacks and just generally can't do anything a CM is supposed to do, it's that he's never in the right position. Unless Moyes is instructing him to bum-rush into the box at any opportunity and then casually jog back as Bayern counter like a freshly lobotomised oaf then he has no excuse, he left gaping holes in the midfield and the ease with which Bayern just strolled through was ridiculous.

I will be shocked if he is on that much. Or even close to it.

Even on TV it feels annoying not to see him running back, I cannot even image watching that live  I don't understand why he was doing in advanced positions when he is so slow to get back.

He is a 27 million pound transfer, I'd be shocked if he wasn't on that amount per week.

I think he had an absolute shocker but in his defence I definitely remember him winning a few tackles.
Yeah. Weird. I thought I was the only one imagining things. He won the ball well towards the end of the game near the halfway line on our right side, didn't he?

Oh my...how much do you think he's on? Sorry to shock you. Thats how much he gets. He was on 50k at Everton
Is there any quotes for his figure? If he is on that much, both him and Young are stealing a living here!

It shouldn't, he was usually played up against one of our smaller players and the ball was banged into him constantly the whole time.

Simple but effective tactic that we just didn't cope with.

Unfortunately, this is the only tactic that works with him.

That keeps doing my head in. The guy jogs back as if he owns the field even when we are under pressure and our strikers are covering for him!

Sadly have to agree. Liked him at Everton but he unfortunately does not convince as a United starter worth 27m quid. It was uncomfortable to watch him being specifically targeted by the BM midfield press causing turnover after turnover. He also lost track of Bastian S for the goal.

He followed and kept pressurizing the Bayern player, Lahm I think, and then nicked the ball off him near the half way line deep into the second half. I remember that 'cause he did not press any Bayern player throughout the match apart from that incident.
