Shaw has been fine, just looked too eager to play in Rooney at times, trying to force the play.

Valencia's problem is still the thinking time he needs, and his fear. We should maybe think about putting blinkers on him.

I know it's only a friendly against a poor side but Herrera has been so impressive. He looks head and shoulders above all our other midfielders.
Not really, Fletcher and Mata have been equally dominant. All impressive though, our best players so far.

Herrera looks absolute class to me, maybe because he's class or maybe because we've lacked a half decent player in that position for the past how many years. He's first touch is just sex, almost glue like and his passing has been very good. He's constantly making runs into space off the ball and even when he doesn't have it he's screaming for it. Decent strike earlier in the game too mind. He looks world class, grant it we're playing LA Galaxy. Stick Vidal beside him now and watch the midfield 3 of Herrera, Vidal and Mata dominate!

Not seen much of Shaw, looks nervy though. Can't blame him though.

Mata has been class and I think Welbeck has had a good half, Herrera also impressing in his debut and I think Fletcher has been solid in the deep CM role.

I don't know why you are all jizzing over Mata and Herrera.

I can't wait for Cleverley and Fellaini!

Although against LA Galaxy, I've been extremely impressed with how we've looked in the first half, especially how its a new formation to the players. Our passing, movement and pressing off the ball have been fantastic, in my opinion.

I don't want to get too excited because it's only LA Galaxy, but the signs are certainly there. Everyone's been very good, in my opinion. Welbeck and Herrera stand out players for me.

Herrera's passing accuracy must be close to 100%. I can't remember him misplacing a ball.

Most impressive is our tempo-there's no play at a walking pace. A lot of one touch play-which will only improve over time.
It is the exact opposite of how we played last season, and even in previous seasons under Fergie. The tempo and quick passing is fantastic.

Looks quite nervous to me. Doesn't seem to want to take any risks, and is trying to keep it simple. Understandable really.
He doesn't take on players up high usually. He likes to run with the ball from deep with pace.

Needs to improve that area of his game actually. And get in behind too.

Guess playing as wingback is new to him as well.

Team just looks clinical and so much more assertive under Van Gaal.

Moyes really was a reactionary manager. It's clear as day when you compare this kind of play to even his best outing last season (whatever the hell that was.)

Funny really. Valencia's been really good I think. Attacking his fullback and putting in crosses, tracking back, being a beast and looking confident. Shaw has been solid too but we've mostly gone down Valencia's side.
Shaw really hasn't taken the fullback on, he needs to show a lot more to be playing as a wing back in this system. I'm pissed Evra left because he is ideal for that role.

The high line will instantly benefit Carrick when he comes back, can't believe how deep we were playing last year after looking at this setup right now. It just suits the way we play much much better.

Herrera Standout player in that half for me. Running everywhere , good first touch , made 2-3 crunching tackles and sprayed some good passes and always available for a 1-2.

Need a partner in midfield for him though , Fletcher looks uncomfortable in possession but it's understandable.

Still not convinced by this formation , we'll see a better test when the season starts.

Hows herrera looked so far?
Looks neat and tidy. Tried to put in a few tackles as well. But this is just a pre-season friendly and the opposition are not so good to be honest. Anyway, it is still a fairly encouraging start for him.

Also I've decided I don't like the home kit. I didn't have an opinion before but the Chevrolet logo is too big and really sticks out. The white trim isn't great either. Hopefully the away kit looks better on the pitch.
First nice home kit we've had since AIG 2008/9. (Ronaldo kit)

Well...I'm disappointed in the Chevrolet stream. I've been having a tough time with it so far with all of the buffering and loading issues.

Other than that, it's a first half that was better than I expected. We look sharper than I thought we would, and we're moving the ball around pretty well. Plus, I love how all of the players are always looking for spaces to receive the ball rather than hold their position.

Still, we've been sloppy (as expected). Valencia's crossing is less brainless than it was, and Shaw looks comfortable yet not too influential as of yet. Defensively, we haven't done as well as I wanted IMO, but that's expected in the first pre-season match. Several of our players (particularly the wing backs) gave ball holders too much space on the ball in 1-on-1's. Our central defenders have shown some unfamiliarity with this system though they have become used to it by now. Herrera seems too aggressive in his role given how high he pushes up at times.

Ultimately, though, it was a nice first half. I'm looking forward to some of the younger players getting minutes, hopefully, during the second half.
