Luke "Fatty" Shaw in the gym then?

How is he "not fit"? I don't get that. He wasn't exactly overworked in the World Cup.

We're talking fine shades of fitness by a normal person's standards. Visually he looks perfectly trim. It'll be more that he's not quite feeling at peak fitness, which is more than enough to hinder your performance at this level.

So it looks like the current approach to trying to make the wing-backs work is to play wingers there. Which makes a degree of sense seeing as the role is closer to a winger's than a fullback's.

Young at left back is a good move from Van Gaal if Young is positionally aware of his defensive duty. He can stretch the opposition defense and give us an attacking threat down the left that was non existant in the first two games. Although, Young is also more susceptible to loosing the ball and making terrible decision. As such, it is hard to tell what to expect out of his performamce today.

Who should play instead? Shaw will probably play the second half and Valencia/Young are the only two that can play RWB now that Rafael is out.

Youth wing backs? Like that kid we bought a while ago? Or just not play 3-5-2 when you don't have the players for it, i know he said hell play it for now to get the players adjusted but it just seems a little weird to waste the entire pre season to a system hes most likely not going to use later on. And when you simply don't have the players for it to even play it during pre season, then just get them used to the 433 he most likely will adopt too.

Dunno, im just a little disappointed that i've whined for 10 years to adopt to a 433 and i finally get my dream coach and now he plays 352. I can't wait a few more weeks to finally see some 433 /cry

I have a feeling that LVG really rates Evans. Big season coming up for him and I think he'll rise to the challenge.

I have £1000 on United to win this at odds of 5/4. Come on please make my week.

I swear I want to punch a baby right in the face everytime I see you brits using the fraction odd system...you guys need to get with the times and use the DECIMAL SYSTEM!!!!!

Good luck mate, but you're fecking crazy putting that type of money on a pre-season game.
Cheers mate! Had the same amount against LA Galaxy and Roma so United has earned me a tidy profit so far. I'm up £1800 so far from those two matches so even if United don't win today, I'd have just lost from my winnings. I just got this feeling that LVG takes every matches seriously, yeah even friendlies.

If he will stay injury free Im sure he will be a key player this season.

This is something I'll never get. How can you even know what a 15/4 means without breaking it down to 4,75?
I don't want to slap babies because of that, though.

I'm going with on Over bet, expecting a lot of goals.

Anyone know if there's a way to watch this on my phone or tablet? Won't be home until the second half...

People disparage Young - sometimes fairly - but he has always been good at putting a shift with us. He's not going to be an amazing defender, but he has great fitness, is rapid and might suit the wing back role better than we've seen him as a pure winger. It's also a friendly, and Van Gaal is giving him a chance. Personally I'd rather see that than him shipped out immediately.

Valencia will have an excellent season.
Totally agree man and why aren't people lumping Kagawa into this mix of misfits, as he hasn't exactly been brilliant since he signed either...Everyone should be given a fresh chance I say.

Vidic is still a a better defender than both by a long way. We have three centre halves & we're playing three at the back. If anyone thinks we're better off without Vidic then you need to be sectioned.
There's only one logical explanation for this... Vidic is a cylon.

Didn't a left wing back score a brace in the LA game?

It just pisses me off so fecking much...why even use fractions... it makes PERFECT SENSE to use fecking decimals

Can some kind caftard drop me a link to a 'river' please?

So basically you think Jones & Smalling are better players than Vidic?
I think they're much younger, faster, and are far better with the ball at their feet. If we're going to reinvigorate the team then we need them, and ideally one or two more footballing CBs.

Yanks' NBCS coverage of Barclay's PL start shows the 'it doesn't fecking slip now' moment, thanks for the laughs my dear Amerifriends.
