We are missing someone to grab this game by the scruff of the neck there are no leaders out there it's so clear to see , Hernandez is a lovely guy but he has Been feckin bobbins ,I'd take fletcher off for cleverley , Chico off bring zaha on ( I know I'm gonna get scorched for that one ) or lingaard on ,

Herrera's great. Don't mind the fouls because he's always pressing and trying to win the ball back. hate to say it, but I am not sure Fletcher will have the physicality to to partner him in the pl week in week out in the high-tempo games. Doesn't look good at the minute.

You lot are cracking me up…so we need a LB a RB, two CH's, a MF and another forward?

Jesus…you were the same guys saying Moyes had inherited a great squad…now you want them all transferred because of a poor 20 mins in a pre-season friendly.

Hilarious!
Typical matchday thread.

Why do we keep giving away so many penalties. Unfamiliar with the system? Or is it a problem with having a back 3 in general.

I hate Warren Barton but he's absolutely right on Fox. His points are basically United are f*cked because of two things:

1. Rodgers knows the back 3 can't hurt him, so he doesn't need to worry about them. And he's right, they can't pass the ball 10 yards.
2. We don't have the pace in behind, so LFC can compress the pitch into about 25 yards. And it's easy to defend like that.

What happened to the Hernandez of 4 years ago, that forced defences to play 10 yards deeper?
This is one of my concerns about a front two of rooney and rvp. We wont have the pace or player to get behind the defence. Certainly need welbeck to play.

We are still struggling with teams pressing us, we aren't keeping the ball well at all! Hernandez has offered nothing tonight up top.

Sunny, sunny Manchester.
Yep, they've pressed us high up the pitch and our CB's and midfielders have looked shaky. Think Liverpool have looked good and I don't think they'll drop off as much as many United fans on here are predicting.
I agree they are looking decent under Brenton but I also feel that we are kinda making them look better than they are tonight with our silly errors.

Cant understand people saying Herrera was bad. I think he had a good game so far.
He hasn't been bad imo, but he's been a bit ... i dunno out of place / on a different wavelength. Not doing enough to get involved i guess.
His tackling hasn't been good either.

Most of its just a lack of familiarity i guess.

Evans, Chicharito and Fletcher really very poor today. We miss Welbeck badly. We still cant play well when a team presses high up the pitch. In other words, we still need a realiable defender, a midfielder and a winger
Welbeck brings so much to the team that a lot of fans don't appreciate. If he can get his finishing to match the rest of his play he's going to be one hell of a player!

Sorry, but are we watching the same match?
United have been okay. Had a few opportunities and a lot more of the possession. Liverpool have also been good but a few players are letting United down in this match.

Re Hernandez: Inzaghi made a career out of poaching.
football has moved from the days of Inzaghi, no other top team plays with a specialize poacher anymore because when the ball inst in the opponents half its like playing with 10 men

Exactly why I prefer Smalling to Jones - Jones rushes into challenges too much whereas Smalling tackles at the right time. That, and Smalling's ability to keep up with Sterling is golden.
If only English players could be loaned abroad more often, Jones would be the first to go across the Chanel so he can learn how to keep both his feet moving. Ship him on loan somewhere to Germany! (Just a personal wish)

Pace is needed, its clear tbh. Henandez has the most immaculate attacking positioning but his finishing has been poor for quite a while now.

lol Sky, saying United have "only" played Inter, Roma & Madrid so they aren't used to Liverpool o.O? Am I taking that the wrong way or does he think those 3 teams are below Liverpool?

There was also too much space between defense and midfield at most times. It's needs to be tight but perhaps the defenders are anxious to go forward a bit more out of fear for Sterling and his speed.

Hope we can come out better in the second half. We always seem to struggle against teams who press well, this is something LVG needs to rectify.

I agree totally, Welbeck's movement and dropping deep to allow space in behind him really helps massively. Not to mention his pace on the ball and his surprisingly good passing range.

What's wrong with the Username, lad?

Why are those pundits mugging off our defenders? FFS, couple shaky moments and we need 3 fcking centre backs. Yes, they've looked a bit shaky today, but they were great against a high pressing Madrid side. We've just been a bit sloppy. I expect a better 2nd half.

Rooney's Hollywood passes out to the right hand side are infuriating.

Think Mata, Herrera have looked solid. Look confident on the ball. We just need a bit more confidence at the back, with regards to their ability to actually play football.

P.s There is no way Van Gaal didn't want Tony Kroos. Fletcher has been trying to do what Kroos did for Bayern all season and I seriously doubt Van Gaal would have passed an opportunity to sign a player of Kroos' ilk.
