Amigos, this was impressive stuff from the boys in America. A new manager and a new system, being away from home for three weeks in hot and humid conditions and we comfortably beat all our opponents.

The foundation for an outstanding season has been set. Hard decisions have to be made now and I have no doubt Louis will get it right.

Cut Nani, Kagawa, Fellaini and Ando loose, but keep Chicharito. Bring up Blackett, and the Keanes. Bring in Vidal. Collect a prem trophy.
I think Kagawa has shown his worth. Much rather keep him than Chicharito as much as I hate to say it

Monitoring the preparation of the Vidal bid
Fantastic watching the scousers squirm after that. :D

LvG really sorted the team out and they came out and put Liverpool right in their place.

Now for signings, we can really strengthen this team and end up with something pretty special. I think we've probably got the best central attack in the league by some distance already.

:)

Ricky Lambert was utter shite. He looked like he'd just wandered out of a pub onto the pitch.

I think the current squad even without any additions, would be a very good shout for a top 4 finish.

Sunny, sunny Manchester.

I really felt for Kagawa last season and was confident he'd flourish under Van Gaal. Unfortunately for him there's the small problem of a sensational Spaniard standing in the way of him being a nailed on starter.

Still, at least with the new formation he won't have to compete with Rooney anymore

really hope we don't sell him

I'm sure we'll need both Mata and Kagawa for the coming season

I don't get it, I watched mata closely today. lots of tidy touches but nothing constructive. very poor defensively-letting players run of him. Touched the ball a handful of times in the second half. took a shot which deflected. Still scored to be fair. He was okay today, certainly not sensational

Herrera

Rooney - Kagawa

Mata - RvP - Januzaj

Wouldn't mind seeing how this works out for 1 match :P

thats fecking racist, i'm quite offended
Not sure if serious? I'm quite familiar with Warren Sapp's personality. He's a straight up clown. And my comment was a dig at him looking like a overgrown fat kid on a free year's supply of cake. Besides, I've already used my "racist" remark earlier when I confused Ibe for Sterling.

Well, even though it's a pre-season friendly, one team will quite obviously be going out to prove a point. The other not so much.

Nevertheless, I hope we absolutely fecking batter you.
 the team with league and champions league winners have to prove a point whereas the duds with books written on their second place finish don't.

I think we'd need more cover in midfield to be honest. LvG really has a tough task picking the front Five players though. Who do you leave out!?
Depends on the match up really. But i think Mata will just be rotated with Kagawa mostly with Mata being the starter.

That comeback was beautiful

I didn't actually think we were that good, but we still bossed it. Liverpool only really looked threatning on the break.

Kagawa was not only decent enough to earn a pass, he's also noted by LVG to be one of his best passers, surely something he values given the style of play he's trying to implement.
Agree with Nani and Ando, but I dunno about Fellaini.
I mean I'm well aware he's been shit under Moyes (at United), but honestly apart from De Gea, Januzaj and Rooney who wasn't? I think Fellaini isn't nearly as bad a player as the season he's had (injuries didn't help) would make you think. True, he might be going regardless, but I'd like to see LVG try and utilize him.
Chicharito is someone I wouldn't want to leave by any means, but I'm guessing he's as good as gone.
My guess is

OUT: Hernandez (sadly), Nani, Anderson.
OUT on loan: Zaha, Lingard, Powell

IN: 1 CB (possibly also a midfielder, but I doubt it, if anything I expect a winter/next summer midfield signing)
Realistic options (ones whose names have been thrown about, not ones we could afford):
Hummels, Vermaelen, or you can take a wild pick at a random Dutch player apparently.

Nani looks uninterested, even in the pic. He is definitely off.
Bit harsh!! He's always like this. I feel a bit sad if he's off (although it might be inevitable eventually. I would prefer to keep Kagawa for sure.

I'm sorry RHD, you are great with Girlfriend problems, but have a bit of problem here in this context.
:D Trust you to bring that up ya rascal ye..

All i said was, we need upgrades in certain areas - i dont see the problem with what i said at all. Every transfer thread & many others this summer, have spoken of our need to upgrade

Big plus at CB has been Blackett, & Smalling for the best part, Jones to the lesser extent & Jonny havin a predominantly a great pre-season, apart from tonight's game - same as Fletch in CM.

We can criticise posters for comments they make all we want, but LvG would be a fool to go with what he has for the season. Its too risky & we'll get found out if we want to win the Prem & that surely has to be the aim - not 4th, aka - 3rd best loser..

Refreshing really. I'm seeing some bite in our midfield after a long long time.

we've won 4 out of 5 matches in 90 minutes of play, won the other 1 on penalties.
but here's where it gets interesting...we've scored 15 goals from open play. and conceded only 1. with amos on goal. scored from behind the halfway line.
yes we've had too many penalties taken/scored on us, but still...I really am amazed at how much of a difference LVG has made so far, even if it's preseason.
Moyes, I hope you do well in life, really...but your ineptitude last season was beyond bareable and I'm glad as feck that the board had the guts to sack you and replace you with a manager who knows how to do his job properly (forget this preseason, his track record is more than enough)
I thought about the same thing today. Even though we look quite shaky today when Liverpool pressed us, the overall defense has been quite impressive through out the whole tour. And you gotta give most of credit to van Gaal - the most experienced CB we have is Evans (26) - how he managed to get 5 20-26yo kids to understand a 3-CB defense system in about 2 weeks, I would never know.

And people naturally worries about our goals when we play with one more defender and one less attacker. Turns out we look fine with average 3 goals per game. The main improvement has been on our passing and fast movements, especially during counter attacks.

Lemmy has forsaken us....
I think Fletcher will have a good season, but we still need another CM

Clev keeps disappearing during games
Ando is as good as gone
Carrick is out injured and he wasn't good last year, though he can be great at his best

We just can't rely on Herrera and Fletcher alone for the whole season
Yes, we definitely need one, or two more, depending on what happens in the next few days.
