Hmmm That would take him about 3-4 seasons, you'd have to land him this summer to have a chance at that.

I guess he'll be our all time top scorer alone then.
60 more from him this season for Raul's record, comes back in the summer and Charlton's record by next WC.

Di Maria-Mata-Ronaldo

with either Rooney, Falcao or RVP in front of them is awe inspiringly jizz worthy.

Realistically (but not really), if he keeps it up, he'll be Real Madrid's all-time top scorer some time near the middle of next season, at the age of 30 or 31. If he transfers to United the summer after that, could he realistically score the 132 goals he needs to overtake Charlton? That'd be roughly 30-40 goals a season until he hits retirement age.

He could actually do it if he really went for it. Imagine being all-time top scorer at both Real Madrid and Manchester United. Surely the most incredible individual achievement in club football history?

How far away from Charlton's record is he?
Too far for anyone with a bit of sense to even entertain the idea... That record belongs to Rooney.

Ronaldo will so obviously want to become Real Madrid's greatest goal scorer of all time. He's the kind of player that this sort of thing is really important to. And it'll take him two seasons to break that, by which time he'll be 31/32.

One more point - Ronaldo wouldn't be scoring as many goals in the Prem as he does in LL. No disrespect to LL but the PL is fair more competitive with way more aggressive defences.

Madrid, Barca and Bayern are always the top scorer's or among them (over the last 5 or six seasons) in the CL and Ronaldo and Messi have both being winning the CL top scorer award since 2008.

They are as reliable as your use of apostrophes. Sorry, apostrophe's.

Sensible comments are not welcome in this thread.
If "they're" as reliable as my apostrophe's, then they're extremely reliable.

Two of them should come to the BPL and battle it out for top scorer again, both of them at United though.

Yeah, just look at that Diego Costa.

Some players like Ronaldo and pre-Spacejammed Torres are just perfectly physically equipped for the Premier League anyway

Costa may disagree

It wont matter if he scores 55 in England. He would probably knock in a paltry 40 or so, which would be enough to propel us to being instant league and CL contenders. That alone would be worth his fee.

Ronaldo is just taking the piss out of La Liga again. The Premier League is a perfect league for a player like that,

When did I say it has

You are acting too defensive here
So we were 3-1 up against Leicester, and they came back 5-3. If we score 2 more, maybe it would have deflated Leicester and put the game to bed, or maybe the game may have ended 5-5, which meant we salvaged a point or maybe we ended 5-6....

The point is you can never say a goal has no impact just because it is the 4th in a 4-1 victory because it always matters in the match at that point. It has a mental and psychological effect, it helps the team's overall Goals For stats and it increases the fear factor.

This no-impact bollocks is certainly just hindsight and cherry-picking of stats to suit an agenda.

I wouldnt say any goals scored during 90 mins would have no impact to the game either, except of course last min injury time goals scored in a 4-0 win or in similar fashion. But we don't have to be that extreme, and I wouldn't classify goals scored into impact goals and no impact goals either, this is just plain stupidity for someone here to suggest so.

Every goals count except until it is beyond realm of possibilities to chase it back in the game. Simple as that.

Let's compare the record of the top 3 Premier League scorer of the last 5 seasons who also played in the CL with their CL record around that time (let's say the 3 seasons around the mentioned Premier League season). That should give us an idea if it's really more difficult to score in the Premier League, after all Messi and Ronaldo keep up their scoring rate in continental games.

In 09/10: Drogba 29 goals in 32 games, Rooney 26 in 32, Tevez 23 in 35
From 08/09 to 10/11 Drogba scored 10 goals in 22 continental games, Rooney 13 in 29 games, Tevez 2 in 16 games

In 10/11: Berbatov 20 in 32, Tevez 20 in 31, van Persie 18 in 25
From 09/10 to 11/12 Berbatov scored 1 goal in 17 continental games, Tevez 0 goals in 8 games, van Persie 8 in 14

In 11/12: van Persie 30 in 38, Rooney 27 in 34, Aguero 23 in 34
From 10/11 to 12/13 van Persie scored 10 in 17 continental games, Rooney 10 in 22, Aguero 10 in 19

In 12/13: van Persie 26 in 38, Gareth Bale 21 in 33
From 11/12 to 13/14 van Persie scored 12 in 20 continental games, Bale 10 in 22

In 13/14: Yaya Toure 20 in 35, Wayne Rooney 17 in 29, Aguero 17 in 23
From 12/13 till today Yaya scored 2 goals in 15 continental games, Rooney 3 in 15, Aguero 8 in 12

You can check those numbers yourself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_top_Premier_League_goal_scorers_by_season

There's not a single player in there who comes even close to replicating their brilliant league stats in the CL. No disrespect to the PL, but you're fairly overrating the defending in the Premier League. And Ronaldo and Messi keep their numbers up in the tough knockout stages as well, while for example van Persie's or Aguero's numbers are mostly from games in the group stages. Yeah, those 2 benefit from playing in great teams, but they are also the reason why these teams are that great, because they score against anyone at any time.

Ronaldo's stats for Real:
186 goals in 169 league games, 53 goals in 52 CL games. That's how you show you can score against anyone.

Messi is past it physically wise and never is going to be the best player again. Deal with it.
Funny, cause Mr Past It has been the best player in La Liga already this season, bar the tumescent display Wednesday night... unless you go by the Muppet mentality that scoring lots of goals makes you the best.

It's unbelievable. Not sure how anyone can have watched Messi this season and conclude that he's past it

He hasn't been as prolific as Ronaldo goal scoring wise so the average fan will assume he's past it. I agree he's been in great form lately, even without the goals his contribution has been way above average.

Are you sure?
This must be the lowest quality of centre backs in the league I can remember.

What's the best centre back combo?
Terry and Cahill? Merty and Kocienly? Jag and Distin?

None of them get close to comparing to partnerships like Rio/Vidic, Terry/Carvalho, Adams/Bould, Hyppia/Henchoz etc

This is probably the closest to what would happen regarding his scoring, and of course it's still very, very impressive, but until one of them turns up in the PL or BL and has as ridiculous a goals to games ratio as Ronaldo, Messi, Falcao have had in LL then I'll continue to doubt the competitiveness in LL.

Also the teams that these players have built around them at club level are incredible. We've seen in the WC just gone what Ronaldo is like in an average Portugal side.

Back to your post, Raoul, whether being instant PL and CL contenders would be worth his fee is really dependent on what that fee was...if it was a realistic 50-60m for a super-talented 30yo, then yes I totally agree. But if it was some daft figure like 100m+ figures being bandied around, then no, I don't think it'd be worth it.

For that kind of money I'd rather we bought in two world class CMs and two world class CBs. Or went after Messi... ;)
