It has been all over the news. Sony has been the target of hackers. Emails compromised. Employee information stolen including personal data like social security numbers, etc. Now terrorist type threats being issued against any theater showing the movie.

The movie doesn't sound all that good to me, and not sure it was going to be a huge hit despite having big names Rogen and Franco in it.

Prime suspects are in the hacking are...

1) North Korea. Seems they are not to happy with a movie showing an assignation attempt on their leader. Though it could be said they are fine with movies showing US cities getting blown to bits, but to each their own.

2) Sony itself. Doesn't really make sense in that if they really wanted publicity for the movie then they would not have gone to this length and let personal data get out. They could have faked the hack and released fake emails or only emails related to this movie. And certainly makes no sense to issue terror threats against movie theaters.

3) pretty much any group of hackers anywhere in the world just proving that they can and using the timing of the movie release to get more attention.

So who is going to go see the movie?

Maybe they hired Chinese or Russians to do it.

They also threatened theaters who are showing it that there will be 9/11 type attacks or something.

Good advertisement for the movie if and when it does get released, its figures will probably double

I can assure you it's not this. I work for Sony and was there when the hack first happened a few weeks ago. It's legit. Our workflow has dramatically slowed down and the company is losing a LOT of money.

The talk from within is that it was a guy or girl in the IT department in LA did it.

Yeah that is why I said it does not make any sense. Too much damage done to themselves and their employees.

I just heard on the radio a story about it being someone inside of SONY who did it or a disgruntled former IT employee.

Yep. They have all of our personal details, all the way back to people that were employed in 1995.

The pop culture relationship between the west and Kim's regime is really quite bizarre. First Rodman, now this.

'Half price' might swing it.

But then their figures won't "double" like Randall said! I still can't believe any sane person would think this is a publicity stunt. It's left the head of Sony's reputation in tatters.

A Crack Habit.
Told that most major movie chains have pulled this which is a sad sad state of affairs in terms of public freedoms(Sony stupidly led the way by not having a premier).

I dislike Seth Rogan movies but if this is showing near me I'm gonna pay to watch it.

I don't think its a stunt. But when it eventually releases I betcha it will do far better than it would have initially

They should release it online for free. Take the loss on theater profits but don't let Kim and his goons have their way.

Joy. If it was the North Koreans you really have to laugh at them taking some moving so seriously. Particularly when you see countless other movies where presidents of the USA, Russia, UK and basically everyone else are attacked or killed.

If anything, these actions are making me actually want to watch the movie now.

Apparently they won't even release it on DVD or on demand!
