He submitted a teamsheet with no Batistuta and assuming Joga didn't have Vieri. Clearly the case.
Makes no sense though considering he submitted an injured pick for the manager he was paired with! The mysterious ways of Raees...

Btw seeing as we are done with the drafting, who are the more renowned players who went unpicked? I can think of Mario Kempes, Ryan Giggs , Ruud, Vidic and did Raúl get picked?

Maybe I get this better because I experienced the confusion first hand. It seems he thought it had all gone through and that when Skizzo posted the matchups he was also announcing the lost players. He wouldn't know who had been taken away from Joga as his pair was Kazi (and he may as well have injured Robbo, the one pictured by Skizzo), so it seems his interpretation was: "I play Joga, and we've both lost our strikers".

Tonnes of players. Raúl wasn't picked, indeed.
  • I don't think there's a single player from the 1930, 1934, 1938 or 1950 World Cups. Not one.
  • The large majority of the British+Irish draft heroes suddenly weren't good enough.
  • Most United players were deemed as shite as our current ones: Giggs, Ruud, Vidic, Evra, Cantona, Law... Don't think Schmeichel got picked either.
  • Various familiar players looked dead certs in certain rounds yet never got picked, the late 70s and early 80s in particular took a battering: Rensenbrink, Kempes, Stielike, Lerby, Elkjaer, Francescoli...
Stielike is the one I'm totally baffled about... with so many wingers blocked and teams banking on wingbacks and attacking fullbacks, you would think he would be handy, wouldn't you? Apparently not.

Edgar has Schmeichel in his team, but yes, I mentioned earlier that it's weird how many United players were ignored during the draft. Vidic and Evra the two obvious ones in the last two rounds when both were eligible and so many managers still needed defenders.

I also expected someone to pick Coluna in the 'played in Africa, Asia, Oceania'-round. He would have been a brilliant fit for several teams.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.

Vidic and Evra tend to be underrated in the drafts.

I can see how Coluna missed out TBH, you want players who will get more kudos in his role.

Evra was incredible though, there were a tonne of managers neeeding a fullback, not a wingback or a left-midfield playmaker, or someone who could play DM if needed... Nope, a regular leftback, and somehow five people went for Junior. You get a lot of things with Junior but what he certainly isn't is a better leftback than Patrice.

That's exactly what it was. I thought the pictures announced the injured players as well as announcing the draft match ups.

Would have gone for Giggs over Bale in the second last round under different circumstances. Had to keep it flexible for my last pick so went with Bale.

Wait, Giggs wasn't picked  I never even noticed
Thing is many courted other wingers, then they got blocked, and by then it was late and gave up on wingers altogether as going for someone like Giggs meant also needing to get someone out right. At least that's the only explanation I can find.

Vidic is a quality defender, but then it automatically brings up Torres. Just leads to arguments against quick forwards. He deserves to be picked more often, imo.
Torres :(... I just hate the fact it defines Vidics career.

It surely doesn't, though. For Liverpool fans, perhaps - but not to more or less sane people.

Vidic had weaknesses. So did Rio. So do most defenders in football history. The "but, but...Torres" thing is just bizarre. People should be banned for bringing it up, it's so stupid. You can bring up similar performances against one specific opponent who got the better of his man for every player imaginable. But with Vidic versus Torres it's for some reason regarded as a valid point. Bizarre.

Also this amazing stat:
Ferenc Puskas goals: 508 in 521 (club) and 84/85 (country). Ratio: 0.98 goals per game.
This despite not playing for 2 years in his prime.

Lionel Messi goals: 264 in 297 (club) and 45 in 96 (country).
Ratio: 0.79 goals per game.

C. ronaldo: 294 in 404 (club) and 52 in 118 country.
Ratio: 0.66 goals per game.

Kind of puts into perspective how good Puskas really was. I might start a thread on it later.

Are you seriously trying to sell Puskas to us?

I really am not. I didn't know it tbh. I knew he was one of the best, but that stat is ridiculous. Pele's is ridiculous too, but he played in Brazil. Similarly, I'm sure some of Puskas's goals were against weak teams in Hungary, but it puts a lot of the Messi-Ronaldo bullshit we deal with daily in perspective.

@NM @Theon @MJJ when do you want us to start the game? If I'm not mistaken you all live in completely different time zones.

I was going to put it up in the next little while, since otherwise I won't be able to until halfway through Tuesday.
Yeah, fair enough. If neither of the manager asks for a specific starting time, just start the games whenever it works for you. Less work for me :D.
