30 million for a player who would rather get pissed than play for his country sounds like a budding superstar ....

Or he'd rather get smashed for his 18th birthday than represent his country. Priorities.

Looks like we should steer away as far as possible from this one.

We are not happy with injury-prone players - we now want players who are prone to faking injuries ? :)

I thought Clyne was "rumored" to be signing a new deal rather than move?

Wouldn't be surprised if we sign him though

I think this one is very likely. Can hopefully pick him up for a reasonable price with just a year of his contract left.

Hopefully the same goes for Gundogan too.

Unfortunately, the same will probably apply to De Gea to Madrid.

Yeah and how much is Clyne going to cost?, 25mil?. You could probably get a foreign player as good or better for 10mil or less. fecking British players.
And no i don't know which foreign player it would be, thats why we have scouts.

I doubt it with a year of his contract left.

He is nowt special. Slight improvement over Valencia and worse at everything compared to Rafael apart from staying fit.

A fit Emerson Boyce is more valuable than an injured Rafael, unfortunately.

Clyne is nothing but consistently solid. You'd be expecting 7/10 with him week in week out. Defend well and I imagine he'll be asked to be good insurance behind Di Maria next season. And I think I'd be happy with that, especially around the £15m mark. Ideally I'd love a fit and in form Rafael but clearly that ship has sailed. Time to move on.

Clyne is recently 24 with a couple of years of good premiership experience behind him and comes at a decent price. He should give us 6-8 years of football and it'll be a good deal.

Young cost 16M in the last year of his and he was a couple of years older.
True, though weren't Liverpool in for him as well. Possibly pushed the price up slightly. I remember at the time thinking it was over the odds.

I think Clyne would probably cost us £12-15m. Probably close to £15m to be honest.

Its us we are talking about here, we will probably pay £30mil for him.
Well yeah possibly. Fair point given we hung on to pay that extra £4m for Fellaini!

One thing I would say about Clyne is I was very impressed by him and Shaw when Southampton played us at Old Trafford last season. Southampton played a style where they tried to isolate each of them to go forward and they were superb on the day.

it's that where woody turns up at their house and mr. southampton answers the door with a stern face and invites woody inside whilst his clyne get's ready. after an uncomfortably long silence as mr. southampton looks woody up and down he then asks of his intentions towards clyne and then woody declares his interest?

£12m - £15m is severely underestimating the market value even if Clyne only has a year left on his deal. Easily going to be £20m+ - especially if more than one club is in for him, which seems likely.

I'm all for getting in some defenders as our defending is a a complete joke, regardless of what the table says, but spending £50+mil on Clyne and 'running through treacle' Hummels doesn't really fill me with confidence.

I think you've forgotten that he's English!
Yeah possibly. No doubt that puts a few quid on. But what's the alternative for Southampton, getting nothing for him in a year?

The key might be if more than one club goes in for him. If so, fair enough, it'll be higher. Liverpool need a right back, Chelsea have been linked a bit so maybe it will head that way. If it's just us, they might have no choice but to take £15m.

I'm sure the agents will do everything they can to provoke a bidding war to push that up.

Probably. Once a player reaches the last year of his contract, him and the buying club hold most of the aces. I fear we might find that out this summer with De Gea.

Clyne has consistently been one of the best right backs in the league over past 2 to 3 seasons. How nobody can rate him is crazy.

£100m after a mediocre (for his standard) season, feck that.

You could sign Depay, Pogba and still have about 25-30m in change with that sort of cash. Massive waste of money.

So about 137m Euros then, depending on the exchange rate at the time we have so called prepared that bid. Feck me, is he really worth that?

I am fully expecting us to give a good go at Getting Bale this summer. Woody been after him for a while.

Though if Real get a ban looks very unlikely.
