A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
In fairness we've been in the same boat. Theon's online for about 20 seconds a day and I've barely been able to get on since we got our first bid in for Matthaus. I think this will be wrapped up fairly soon regardless.
Aye, it hasn't felt like a particularly lengthy reinforcement round anyway.

That was a particularly brutal and effective bit of bidding you just did . Of course, given that it was us pushing Cal higher on Maldini that makes him unable to raise you on Ronaldo, I expect you to the decent thing and bench Pele and/or Ronaldo if we play each other.

I dont see why he cant play possession football, his first touch/technique,etc isnt that bad and all he needs to do is pass the ball to either xavi or iniesta. He is more than capable of doing that while being very strong defensively.
You are underrating Busi's role in that midfield.

For starters, he didn't just give the ball to Xavi/Iniesta, he was Guardiolesque at times with vertical through balls.

Second, it's not just passing but following them, moving along with them, being available for the pass... all things that are the opposite to what Makelele would concern himself with (where to be in case the ball is lost).

Thirdly, what distinguished that trio was their ability to keep passing it under pressure in limited space, which required two things: 1) above average first touch/technique (as opposed to "not bad"), and 2) the afore-mentioned constant movement and availability of the other two to receive a first-time pass.

Makelele breaks down the triangle, plain and simple. Whatever he adds defensively doesn't make up for breaking down the very foundations of that style of play.

Fair enough, those are very valid points which I didnt consider.

.......Ro.......Ro...........
Dinho.....Pele.....Best....
..Desailly...Matthaus...
.........Back 3...............

Too bad they are not set up for a back 3. A W-W would be awesome!
"Back 3" would be rather important as with Dinho and Best not tracking back the oppo would have a field day on the flanks. But it's the flanks, you can hardly score from there, only cut inside to shoot or cross, so a very strong core could do enough to ensure your outscore the oppo.

1970 Pele is actually a better fit for your team than peak Ronaldo.

A suggestion to organise the games quicker. We could use Doodle so if there's a no show for whatever reason there's a date it can fall back on. Also make it so that everyone submits the tactics to Annah within 3 days of the draw

I'm assuming those are the last ones. No one else has money left, and theon/gio aren't allowed anyone else.
Why?
Reinforcements: Every team will be awarded with their left-over funds from the previous round and 50 millions for every reinforcement round.

The minimum bid in the reinforcements will be 20 millions which means you can only sign two players hopefully. In the last round only one reinforcement will be allowed which means the finalist with more money left goes first in a snake draft.
The part about only signing two players doesn't sound like a strict rule, more like an explanation why the initial bid is 20m in the reinforcement rounds. At least that's how I understand it. If you've saved so much money that you can buy more than 2 players despite the 20m starting bid, you can go for it.

I'll take big Jurgen - the gold standard for partnering a Beckenbauer/Scirea in defence.

Also a big possibility that we'll face van Basten next round and there's none better for that match up.

Match 1
If they had another 50 millions they'd have picked up two more strikers. You know it will be an entertaining game when Cristiano, Messi and Pele is considered the boring conservative and defensive side.

Match 1: Theon VS Cal

Match 2
The two tactical masterminds face off when Skizzo plays Green_Smiley.
