He has put himself in the middle of dick swinging contest by not signing a contract. He expected us to bend over for Madrid and guess what we didnt.
I'm not saying there's some nasty plot or anything like that and really dont know what you mean by me being 'blind by mine frustrations' or whatever..

He has done the best for himself yeah but the company he's employ with is doing that also.
Once again, he hasn't done anything wrong whatsoever by not signing a new contract. What's currently going on is down to the reactions of people to that, for their own purposes - something he's not responsible for.

DdG can't afford that, if he stays he has to be in the match-day squad or his game is going to take a knock and he'll get overtaken for the Real position AND his longed-for Spanish No1 slot too!
That's wishful thinking though, so much delusion in this thread...

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Van Gaal said so in a press.conference.
Okay I only just read the press conference from yesterday. So if de Gea said he doesn't want to be part of this team anymore and that he is too distracted he might have been just honest about things which in this case was probably the best thing to do. Naturally the best outcome would be to find a deal with RM but they seem to go the Bayern route and say "if we don't get him this season we can live with getting him next season for free."

Who really cares whose fault it is at this point, it's the club that will bear the brunt. Let's fecking resolve the situations as it isn't helping anyone.

If he is adamant on leaving and Real are ready to pay good money to acquire him, then let him go and sign another keeper.
If he is not adamnat, then let him play and leave for free next season. Or give him more money and a release clause.

These daily snippets about him wanting to play or not are getting annoying now. We have 5 games before the window shuts and I shudder at the thought of Romero starting all of those with Blind protecting him.

Im not saying he has done anything wrong, he played his cards, now the club is playing its cards.

I believe Van Gaal tbh. He's not one to mince his words and I can see De Gea trying anything to get his move to Madrid ASAP. If that's the case, just get rid of him, even if it means lowering the asking price. We're not going to get £32m from him. It's not even about the money anyway, the guy is basically just going to rot on our bench for a year.
No

once it hits september 1st not playing becomes more detrimental to de gea than united. We've openly gone on record saying he's not for sale unless his value is matched or we get a player in return.

We have to keep by those words I know t may be cutting your nose to spit your face but this is a rare occasion i think the club so stay firm.

Very few players - probably no more than a handful of cases - sign new contracts when they know they intend to leave soon. I don't really know what 'deliberately running his contract down' means here. It's hardly as if he's been refusing to sign a new deal for years or that he refuses to leave now and insists on doing it on a free next year. We only went into negotiations in the past year and I guess that knowing somewhere during last season he may have an option to go to Real Madrid, he logically refused to sign a new contract. He's still leaving us with an option of recovering what we paid for him now - which isn't great money, but is still far from leave us with 'bugger all'.

He's done nothing wrong.
Exactly, Amir.

PS: LvG should take a lesson from De Gea and keep a dignified silence. Keep these matters in-house.

Easier said than done to dismiss 20 Million which would go a long way acquiring another goalkeeper.

I see some starting to spin this whole thing as how its LvG fault now,how he is the main problem,he is the reason why DDG wants to leave

This is the whole problem. Real are intent on being cheap because, in all honesty, they don't really want him that desperately.

Why on earth is De Gea "responsible for 90% of the problem"? What has he done that's so heinous? Has he publicly asked for a transfer?
Publicly ask for a transfer would have been a good thing, the problem here is that, he played with the club pretending to sign a contract when his only intention was to sign for Madrid, now United are in a complicated situation.
Let a player leave on a free or selling him for less money than needed to replace him?

There's been a policy shift at United over contract negotiations over the last few years. The club have been taking risks running down contracts to save on salaries. It's proved a risky policy with the likes of Pogba and now De Gea.

I don't believe a single word of this shite that he doesn't want to play.
Might be wrong but LVG said that he doesn't want to play for the club, not that he doesn't want to play the next game.

Then we should tell him that he isn't leaving and ask him to buckle up. He is a big boy, I am sure he can handle staying in Machester for another year.

All this "we'll not play him till the window shuts' nonsense needs to stop. That to me sounds like leaving the door open for his departure till the last minute of the window. Which isn't helping anyone.

I never thought of it that way. We all know he wants to play for Real. I doubt he'd be unprofessional in any way though.

Madrid have good goalkeeping options. Although De Gea would be a good purchase it's not critical they buy him at this point. If I was in charge of transfers at Madrid I'd pretty much have the same policy.

The situation is complicated and not easy to deal with. De Gea has not signed a new contract even though it was offered to him a while ago. The club wants to put their foot down and not sell one of the best goalkeepers in the world for a low fee despite the fact that he is on his last year which is ridiculous if you think about it. We wouldn't want to pay a world record fee for a gk in a similar situation no matter who it is. So it's either we accept what Madrid are offering or lose him for free next season and risk him not playing well. It's hard to see where things will go from here but I don't see how any side is to blame it's business at the end of the day.

I don't blame him for not wanting to play. If he feels he isn't at his best and will be more likely to make a mistake, it's the sensible thing to step aside. If he had lost us the game because of a mistake, it wouldn't be very fun for him or us.

Yep, you said it!

You really think, if Real do well this season in the league and the CL, with whoever they use, they will drop them next season for a guy who has barely touched a ball in anger for a year?
Name a top class player at a major club left on a bench due to contract wrangles for season?

Think Pogba was a different situation and that one was a screw-up by SAF (he's allowed a few)

DdG has run his contract down. They've been trying to get him to sign for a while … his team had already probably had talks with Madrid and they thought they could land him on the cheap (one way or another) as long as he didn't extend.

If Adam Crafton is correct, De Gea said that he would play, not that he wants to play. Obviously that's all semantic, but it doesn't go against LVG claims that the problem is that De Gea has other things than the team in his mind, that he isn't focused enough.

Not sure they can be left out for a season can they? Isn't there some rule that they can buy themselves out of the last transfer window if they haven't been offered a percentage of the games available?

However … I think you're just about to see exactly the scenario you state if he stays. Not sure Real value him as highly as he thinks they do either.

Still not sure any of this will do him, us or Real any good though the longer this farce continues … it'll only get messier!

De Gea and his team are perfectly in their right to get the best deal for himself and client. That's business, and human nature. In De Gea's case he's going back to his home city, his family and a club comparable to United. This is not just about money. I'm pretty confident United will have offered a better financial package.

PS: Professional sportsmen are unlike us fans who generally have no emotional attachments to the club.

DDG could easily be one of the very best goalies in the world for the next 10-12 years or so, Madrid aren't that stupid to give up on him, given that they can sign him on free! Why let him go to, say, Barcelona? Their current keepers are no alternative do DDG in the long run.

More fuel for the deranged anti LVG brigade I see.

It's DDG who is the problem here folks lets not forget. He wants out and he's not getting what he wants and is now, apparently, unprofessional enough to not do his job properly because of this. He's the one causing our club problems not the manager. Shame as I used to like the guy but now I can't see the back of him quick enough.

I think it's excellent we are standing up to RM but not sure its worth the discord in the camp.
Excellent post.

All still within his rights.
Why is someone exercising his personal and legal right a problem? It's not - or shouldn't be seen as one.
Try better excuses to defend De Gea. Nobody is talking here about the "legal aspects". The club is also within their legal rights to let him rot on the bench and not sell him, and Van Gaal is also within his legal right to say what he wants about De Gea.

The one who started the whole fiasco and acted unprofessionally was De Gea though, without any doubt.

It won't! Sell at what Real are offering and move on to another target. If I was a betting guy I'd wager this is going to be the end game. The PR game being played out at present is I'm bigger, and holier between the clubs, LvG, and De Gea.

To me, the bottom line is this:

De Gea has every right to let his contract run down and go for a free next year (as is his right under the Bosman ruling). Regardless of whose fault you believe it is for this situation, though, he should be professional enough to be able to play to the very best of his abilities until the time that he is sold. The worst thing for me is not that he's going but that he's not playing. Pedro is under the same type of situation at Barcelona but he plays when called upon.

He didn't acted unprofessionally, if the reports are right he acted immorally by not advising the club that he wanted to leave last summer, he took all the power out of United hands and gave it to Madrid.

De Gea has said he can play the Aston Villa game and is ready for selection. He said this only 2, 3 days ago. Why not play him? He has been professional throughout and not said anything bad towards the club. As for people saying he should sign a new contract so we can get a bumper fee, what's his incentive. I remember Suarez said had a clause in his contract which he thought would allow him to leave for Arsenal but he wasn't allowed, Liverpool sold him to Barcelona more so because of his incident at the world cup and the amount of games he would of missed. Modric signed a new contract with Spurs so they could get more money from Chelsea but they didn't allow him to move, Modric claimed they had an agreement to let him go if he signed a new contract but the club didn't allow him and he had to wait another year to move to Real Madrid. Look at Sterling who I felt was almost getting bullied into signing a new contract.

I think Ronaldo was lucky because Ferguson gave him his blessing, most clubs wouldn't do that.

Clubs love to talk about loyalty but when it suits them they'll dash players without a second thought.

People saying we should make De Gea rot on the bench are very stupid, if a player doesn't play a certain percentage of games they can terminate their contract. Something I learned when the Tevez scandal was happening.
