For all the talk of us NOT being used to get players improved contracts, Ramos is the supreme example of exactly that. The sloppiest bit of gamesmanship ends in a win for Madrid and Ramos.

United have really got to learn to stop being taken for fools and getting led by their dicks into these situations.
De Gea still here.
Exactly. I'm not sure how expectant we were of truly landing Ramos - I think it was more an opportunity to highlight how derogatory their original enquiries towards DDG were and how we weren't going to be bullied into selling him.

I suspect we knew that it was very unlikely we'd be able to sign Ramos but it gave us a bargaining position, however weak it feels we've been left at the end of it. Also means our Spanish contingent can mention to DDG that clearly Madrid didn't want him THAT much, if they're not willing to part with any of their players nor break the bank for him.... maybe.

Luckily we won't be the club investing 50 mil for the next 5 years in Ramos at the age of 30.

I think they're making way too much of the Terry substitution. I tell you what... If he's being pushed out (which you'd be excused for thinking with how Niall Quinn was hammering on) i would gladly take him at United.
You would do what?

I'd rather stick William Prunier in defence than have Terry play for us.

I'd rather have Terry 'Hulk' Hogan play for us than John Terry.

Am I doing this right?

Well if we win anything this season, we'll probably see Terry in a United strip anyway.

I'm saying purely from a footballing perspective. He's a good player.
He doesn't fit our style of play at all. He's left sided and quite good on his left foot, but he's nowhere near quick enough to play in a high line and receive and push the ball out himself.

United did nothing more than test Madrid in how bad they wanted De Gea. There was never a hint of us ever wanting Ramos until this whole De Gea bullshit started.
But we want a defender, right? Shouldn't we have been getting on with that instead of playing games with Madrid?

We only want the best. Hence why we tried to unsettle Ramos. We got players who can make do already. There's nobody realistically available who would make a drastic difference to our defence. A difference, sure. But not a massive difference. Otamendi wouldnt have been that person. He isnt a ball playing leader of a centre half. I'm not exactly jumping for joy with our options at the back, but I'd much rather pay £40/50 million for world class difference maker when we can get one and keep Smalling and Blind's partnership going, than pay over the odds for someone the manager isnt sure of.
