We've had personal terms agreed with him for ages. We knew what the fee was but didn't want to pay it and so haggled for a month. It'll be billed as him choosing Chelsea over us but it's more we weren't certain and/or didn't think he was worth his buyout.
LvG said it was on Pedro so I don't believe that at all.

Like a stilted lover we can go around saying we ended things to maintain our manhood but everyone else will know the truth.

Agreed - unless our club is run by children who worry most about what their friends will say about them in the playground.
Well I just hope that Woody and LVG, at the very least, egg Roman and Maureen's houses after this.

Just checked BBC on my lunch break and cannot believe what I'm reading.

What the fcuk is going on? I'd bet Valdes advised Pedro to avoid Van Gaal like a fecking plague.
In the unlikely case that this has actually happened you'd have to say we dodged a bullet by not buying someone so fickle then wouldn't you?

BBC says it is just a 21M deal. So I guess it is not about money. Most likely Pedro simply jumped when champions came calling.
Or he could fed up waiting for us to cough up a small amount and went to a club that made him feel wanted.

It'll be interesting to see how many people will change their tune about Pedro when he signs for Chelsea. It's a big loss for us as I think he's have been brilliant here. Not sure how Chelsea will use him but ah well - they'll have a cracking player on their books.

If this was 5 years back I'd agree, but given the way we operate under the Lvg and Woodward era, can't see this being the case. 30 million on Shaw, 57 on Di Maria, we are no longer stingy. If we refused to pay up it's because we were convinced, either by the player or by the players' desire. More likely the latter as the player is excellent.

Fecking gutted. When I saw Memphis playing like he did yesterday, I was salivating at the prospect of having a player who can create the same kind of havoc on the opposite flank. With Pedro gone, I really don't know how we can build that 4-man attack capable of hitting from all angles.

I won't. I think he's a quality player. Not quite a world beater, but one notch below and better than our right wing options.

We fecked up the Ronaldinho deal the exact same way. When the hell will we learn...

Haggling over a couple million and then end up with egg on our face. Fecking typical.

Seems Mata will be our main right winger after all. He's a very good footballer but simply doesn't give us the pace and dribbling quality we need on the right.

It could be to do with depay starting to show what he can do, VG's surprised at the form of janazaj, he has young and mata has has his go to guys, perhaps the club felt throwing 22 million on a player they felt never truly needed when he has mata, janazaj, depay and young. The money could be spent on a better striker, and CB, and pedro would be clogging up the midfield already packed with talent, there were already reports VG was not convinced pedro has the pace, and he already got his hands burnt with di maria

We did get Ronaldo instead though....let's hope something similar happens again  Step up 18 year old Ristiano Conaldo from Sporting.

That's something people are overlooking, our haggling over peanuts can't have made him feel like we valued him all that highly.

Honestly I'd rather he went to Chelsea then City. Would have made a very big impact at United or City, and while he'll do well at Chelsea, I don't think he suits them nearly as much. He's a player who has played in a possession team his whole life, not a counter attacking team. Chelsea also have Willian and Hazard for the wings, who are very good options. Pedro will come in for Willian/maybe oscar and move Hazard inside, but I'm not sure of how much of a difference it'll be because they're all very good players. Gives them more depth though if anything. City and United on the other hand both have a weaker player in their starting 11 that can easily be replaced, like Navas or whoever we have next to Mata and Memphis. Though City want to get De Bruyne so who knows.

Annoying we are missing out on him, but I hope Januzaj really takes his chance this season as it looks like we won't be signing anyone else up there.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. We can't rely on Mata to play that kind of role as a wide player. Furthermore, he slows the play too often in a position that requires quickness of execution in the movement.

And then what? The player's desire to play for us vanished for no reason? You talk as if we approach other teams even if the player is unsure of us. I don't know what caused us to refuse to buy him, if that is the case which is being rumored.

Not for no reason. The champions came calling and he jumped at the big opportunity

Shit a duck, how have we missed out on Pedro!!! We better have some great attacking alternative lined up otherwise we may struggle for goals this season.

Yeah I got the feeling he was a target based on the fact he could cover one or two positions as opposed to being a mainstay...hence the haggling.

Definitely doesn't bother me...I'd much rather see Mata and Januzaj play. Mata in particular is capable of scoring goals and Januzaj will never get better unless he plays more often.

But I'm sure the outside world will see this as a great Mourinho victory.

Splash the cash carelessly on Di Maria, Shaw, Mata, Fellaini etc and then turn into a tight arse when negotiating for Pedro, WTF?!

Doesn't make sense.
