Post-match discussion

Boring. Romero, Blind and Fellaini are nowhere near United-class and Rooney needs a fecking pacey striker beside him or he can feck off aswell. Lets play the fecking defensive mids and play Boring Shite, lets have the only intelligent player on the right. My team: new signing Darmian Smalling newsigning Shaw newsigning Herrera Schneiderlin Memphis (IF he fecking get stucked in)Rooney or mata, newsigning

Should have seen this coming after all the pointing and laughing we did at Liverpool and Chelsea this week. Poor stuff out there though today. Nothing of note in the first half outside the first 5 minutes. The other 5 minute period where we looked good was after we scored to concede then was sickening. Once Swansea scored, our player's absolutely shit themselves out there. Even the late "surge" was disappointing, we didn't really have any chances in that period. Truly an opportunity missed this weekend.

I think if we had signed Pedro or another established player then we could have eased him in rather than essentially elevated him to ou main creative soark.

I think it would help the it we had more of a game plan in attack. It feels more like a lets see what happens rather than a game plan built around the players we have.
Pedro would've been perfect. Can play from the left to replace Memphis and then move over to the right when we feel Memphis is ready to be a regular.

Someone on MUTV saying we should have got Muller/Bale/Lewandowski to support Wayne. I would have one of them instead of Rooney.

To not have a shot after going 2-1 down, with that much time left. It's not good enough.

If that's what we're going to get all season then I dunno, doesn't look good for Van Gaal.

Lack of goals is obviously a problem, but bad in-game management and indecisive keeping on the second lost us that.

We really ought to have reacted to them putting two up top, either by leaving a midfielder to help fill in or telling the r/l backs to stay back awhile. Big mistake from our bench there.

Then the second goal - Romero came forward, then went back, dawdling in that sort of situation is poor.

DDG would have saved the 3 points - fact. Yet he sits in the stands ... so unnecessary.

Your fullbacks were exposed after you scored today. Once you get that one-goal lead away from home, might be a better idea not to bomb forward at every opportunity? Some of the defending was downright comical today.
I agree but if Rooney gets that pass to Herrera we could been up 2-0 the comment about comical defending is harsh from a gooner mate

I think most of us are clutching at straws, the truth is, whatever LVG is trying to do with this team is clearly not working! Swansea play possession football, but how many touches do they take? Their players are moving freely, they take 1 touch, and pass the ball with the next, our players take 4-5-6 touches, brew a cup of coffee over the ball, take a sip, then knock it back to Romero, who then takes 2-3 touches, and knocks it out to Darmian, then to Smalling, then to Schneiderlin, it's too slow, it's lacking in penetraton and ultimately it's too predictable and easy to defend against, principal factor? Louis Van Gaal.

I agree with this. We're just too slow.

We play at 0-0 like we are 4-0 up. Too happy to pointlessly recycle possession when we need goals. Youre suppossed to win the game first, and then control possession whereas we just control possession before we win it.

Thanks devil, I turned it off at the whistle and missed the analysis. He is right with what he says and I think the only one who doesn't see things the same is Vangle.

Are people really blaming Rooney for their equalizer?

Christ this place is getting worse.

How can people still be moaning about tactics when we play basically the same way as every other top club in world football? Difference is, where they have Muller, Aguero, Suarez etc...we have Wayne Rooney who has never been a lone front man. Its not tactical framework that is letting us down its the quality of the individuals

Why didn't Blind cover for Shaw? We need a CB, Blind is in for a torrid time this season...

LVG looks very angry in his post match interview.

"We controlled the match"

Sideways pass, sideways pass, backwards pass, sideways pass, cross ball, repeat. Moyes would have been proud.

It also boggles my mind that when down a goal, we are just as nonchalant as ever recycling the ball, working it from the back, and passing sideways regardless of having a minute left of stoppage time. At least Shaw looked like he gave shit.

Very disappointed to lose to Swansea again, even worse to go ahead and blow it again. It was a tough game with Gomis and Ayew giving us a battering but I thought Smalling played well against them most of the time.

The lack of cutting edge in our attack is very worrying, and so far this season LVG's obsession for possession is really killing our ability to create chances. Rooney was isolated for most of the game but there is no excuse for screwing up his 3 golden chances and then playing that stupid pass when both full backs were out of position which leaded to their first goal was just as bad. Memphis was also totally ineffective. Romero was always going to be a disaster waiting to happen and it was a very poor error for Gomis's goal.

We desperately need more attacking options. We need to play with a far more aggressive attacking side as opposed to this system.

i agree . i do take life seriously and look to football as a get away if you will. we looked and have looked clueless for a while. can LVG get it sorted? less than a goal a match. i used to look forward to the build up and we just don't look like a united football club. now that i posted that we'll win the european cup.

Lucky I'm an avid football fan and can enjoy watching plenty of other football. I still get excited about watching us play but over the past few years, our football has generally been dull and lifeless. I keep hoping things will change but they are merely false dawns. I generally enjoy watching other matches that we aren't involved in these days. We are so fecking frustrating, it's unbearable at times.

Can LvG turn it around? As I said in another thread, I'm divided on the man, 50/50 if you will. I don't know as much about his history, philosophies as some on here, but he has far from won me over. I can see some progress at times and I'm generally happy with our summer business. We still badly need 'that' attacking player that will help us kill teams off and single handedly win us a match.

The draw against Newcastle was piss poor. I mean we dominated and Coloccini had a stormer, but we lacked that clinical cutting edge as we often have. Swansea were there for the taking at 1 nil, but again, we don't have a player that will go on and make things happen / get a second goal. Our inability to kill teams off has been prevalent for a long while now and our option from the bench is generally to bring Fellaini and Young on and look for crosses and long balls. That's not good enough for a club of our magnitude.

I hope LvG can turn it around but I'm unsure. There are definitely some positives but we absolutely need at least one more top class attacker in before the window closes. Rooney also needs dropping for a bit too.

When ? That was our 6th game this season and the manager insists he doesn't need anymore signings.

Some of you are going to get real wake up calls this year.
What? The manager has insisted countless times we do need signings

And also many added this is our best team and the one we want to see
Bruges is quickly forgotten I see, fickle
We won't play a side as poor as Brudge (unless in FA/Carling cup).

I doubt that any poster would have wanted in the beginning of season to see Romero and Blind start in defense. Or to see this version of Rooney play all the time. Or to be relied on a 21 years old new signing.

I agree but if Rooney gets that pass to Herrera we could been up 2-0 the comment about comical defending is harsh from a gooner mate
Haha, it's always relative isn't it? What happened today was rather odd given that you hadn't conceded in three games. Shaw was out of position for both goals.

And I thought Morgan should have been protecting the defence better. Was rather disappointing to see Swansea waltzing around the United midfield with some slick passing. You can't allow a player of Ayew's quality that much time to pick a pass.

You make it sound like he was the main reason for those passes. At least one of those was simply a brilliant run by Mata that allowed for a pretty basic pass by Herrera and despite his brilliant run and his goal, I wasn't too happy with Mata either. A few good scenes here and there won't cut it, we need consistency up front, somebody who can shift their defense around fluently and be a force up there. Herrera didn't do that consistently either.
I also never said he was the reason we lost, just that all the campaigning for him was exaggerated. We have a general problem that goes beyond a player or two.

The point is that Herrera played his role well. He created good chances got the ball moving and had intelligent movement. Our problem was not our midfield. It was clearly our attack. A clinical striker and herrera has 2-3 assists.

I was really impressed barring a few off performances up until 1-1. Bastian, Morgan and Mata were very good, even after Swansea's equalizer. Reminded me of the Leicester game in a way. Complete control to collapse in the blink of an eye.

That is the easiest match we're going to play all season, we got very lucky with that draw. The second half of the 2nd leg was basically an exhibition game.

We started the second half of that game with basically the same team that started today and were 1-0 at half time - so if we beat lesser teams it doesn't count and if we lose to lesser teams it does count
For pity's sake

On the plus side our net spend is practically 0 so we have that going for us at least.
