Look im not going to engage you in an on going argument as others have as it looks like you've a clear agenda on the matter

You were asked for proof and instead of supplying some you defend yourself by asking others for proof (ssn journo reported fyi)

Others have also made the point we set a price and didnt budge, what do you want us to do?
Or indeed that an offical bid only came in yesterday.

You don't seem to want to acknowledge the general consensus in here or in the media or the postion of both clubs on the matter, just so you can feel embarassed at what a bunch of amateurs we are
I have never mentioned the word embarrassed. I did say "poor" though and since Woodward took over, that's exactly how I would describe a lot of our dealings.

So we confirm the transfer at 23.59 and Madrid then has less than 60 seconds to register with LPA?

(Note the 23.59 confirmation time is NOT mentioned in this article - I have read that elsewhere though).

The whole thing is an amateurish botch up by both teams.
If you read the article the clubs agreed at 23:30 and United sent the papers in time, the only problem in all that comes from Madrid or Navas.

I think he should be dumping his agent.

His advice was to not sign a new contract, if hes here all season, that means he has lost somewhere in the region of £5 million in wages plus increased image rights, looked like a bit of a numpty to the fans, and is still not playing in Spain in the run up to the Euros.

Thats as bad a feck up as an agent could manage for him I think.
This is a good point. You can add to the list (which he can also take the blame for) that he could've done what cesc did when he moved to Barca ie take a lower salary to up the transfer fee. In addition, he could've handed in a transfer request and forego a percentage of the transfer fee.

There were rumours earlier in the window that he didn't take the advice of his agent. Looking at how this all panned out, I wouldn't be surprised if this monumental feck up is as a result of DDG trying to take matters into his own hands and wanting to have his cake and eat it. It really comes across that he didn't want to be he bad guy to any party in the transfer (not wanting to piss off united fans or the club by remaining quiet, not wanting to piss off Madrid by signing a new contract). He does genuinely come across as a nice guy who is a bit of a softy, and this may have cost him in the end.

I don't know why people are blaming Woody for it.
Leaving something as important as this till the last minute!? Posturing all summer that De Gea was not going until we get Bale / Benzema / Ramos / whoever - and then, having got none of these, letting De Gea go anyway - and then cocking that up as well!

It will still go through. Madrid always get their way in the end.
I tend to agree, but the mention of the Ruiz to Levante from Fulham precedent suggests otherwise SHOULD be the outcome.

Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.

People keep saying this, but we did budge, the price we accepted was £10m less than we were digging our heels in for. If we'd verbally accepted this price a month ago maybe we'd have sorted all this out.

Not that I'm taking @Dans side in this, not sure why he's taking issue with our behaviour particularly, we were entitled to hold out for a high price for our player, and I'm personally happy with any outcome that is bad for Real.

I genuinely don't get how anyone can blame United for this, seems like people just enjoy bashing the club and so don't care if it's our fault or not. Real Madrid wanted the player and their window was closing earlier so surely it was upto them to push a deal, no one had stopped them from putting up a good bid till yesterday. Obviously United would want to seal the Navas deal completely as well, can you imagine the situation if we had let DDG go and then not got Navas. For me they didn't show enough urgency and so good luck to them

He can't just go then. He's still under contract. He can sign some other contract then though.
I didn't say he could just go, but there's a transfer window so he could be bought & registered then. Real won't get a transfer ban, they're too well connected.

We decided to sell him after Madrid met our asking price (or at least came close to it) with the figure of 40 million euros. As for cocking it up, all reports say we had the papers done on time and have the FIFA timestamp to prove it.

this is just unbelievable. Shocking shocking stuff from Madrid to even leave it this late. And I do think HAHAHA at them aswell. Trouble we have now is how Van Gaal treats De Gea all year. Arm around him, make him feel loved, get him back between the sticks playing well, maybe new contract on the back of it?.

Nah it will be in the reserves and in the stands probably. Eurgh.

I dont know why people are upset at Woody for making the deal on the last day. Utd was not the one desperate to let De Gea go. If Real wanted him badly, they should have started discussions long back.

The price we were looking for was about tthe 30-35 million pounds. With Navas in the mix, the figure was close to 29-30 million pounds. I think it is Madrid who had to meet our demands rather than us lowering ours.

Just been a total mess and embarrassment for all.
For De Gea, his agent & Real, yes it makes them look a shambles. United did everything we as fans would expect. Held out for the right deal & sold him, what happened next was simply out of their control.

Jesus, have you ever said anything positive about United? If you can't see Madrids fault here then maybe you should just switch to supporting them. Then you can shit on United more transparently.

Because as you rightly point out - we did budge, but only at the last minute and we have basically left it so late that this feck up has now happened and we are left with a player who doesn't want to be here, and who will now be gone for nothing at the end of the season, or perhaps for 5m and Navas in Jan.

Btw - I read also that Navas didn't even want to come! It's a fecking farce, it really is.

I think even with transfer ban, they can easily sign De Gea at that time, as he'd count as a free agent. Don't think possible ban would include free transfers.

I'd be happy to have DDG for the year. We don't really know how Navas would do in the PL.

But apparently others would rather not be "embarrassed" than have DDG. I think those for whom supporting United seems to mean nothing except embarrassment really should find another pursuit.

Presumeably Navas and De Gea would play in the Champions League for us and them before January, and assuming we're both still in the competition after that neither of us would want a cup tied keeper.
Navas is being hung out to dry for holding up the deal, De Gea is sat in the stands. Who knows how it'll all pan out. I hope real appeal & get him now. Then it's done & dusted

You talk as if we sat for talks at 10PM or something, when Real were banging our doors for ages. It was on news all day that Utd and Real are talking. If Real took all day to convince Navas, then it is hardly Utd's problem.

They won't be able to register him.

Yeah that outcome doesn't worry me, I've been calling for precisely that all along, I wouldn't have even accepted the last minute low ball offer. De Gea is a professional who declined to hand in a formal transfer request. So he has nothing to complain about. He should accept it and play for us for the rest of the year.

No way will Van Gaal persist with Romero. If the plan is De Gea is sat in the stands for 4 months (which I doubt he wants given the Euros coming up) we'll go and get Cillessen today.

Absolutely shocking stuff from Madrid, I mean how amateurish is this. If I was a Madrid fan, I'd be fuming, they're a laughing stock right now.

Right. The complete deal at £30. De Gea at £22. Which is well under our valuation of him.
Madrid valued him at £13M, we valued him at £33M, ended up being £30M. But we're the ones who got fecked.....right.

The club should have just said that a deal had to be done by a certain date and if it wasn't he would be staying, end of. By letting it drag on, all the posturing and vigorously denying any deal would be done they've just made themselves look silly negotiating at the last possible moment. This should of been sorted before the start of the season and there are no excuses for not getting it done.
