Why should we settle for less? when we want to buy players clubs rinse every single penny out of us, funnily enough Madrid & Di Maria is a good example, difference is we showed intent and paid what they asked and got him. Madrid should have paid up, he's easily worth 30m with one year on his contract, for a top 2 in the world keeper it's more than reasonable even with only 1 year left on his contract. Sorry this is all Madrid's fault, they wanted the player they should have paid up.
Perhaps if Ed hadn't dropped his pants over Di Maria and paid way over the odds, this wouldn't have happened in the first place? Also, think about the lack of concern we showed in taking a 12m loss on Di Maria after a year only.

He has played his part in this fiasco. He's shown the world we'll pay whatever to get whomever. First it was Fellaini, then Mata, then Di Maria and now Martial is the latest.

It would be a terrible explanation. If their intention was to get him on a free they didn't need to do anything. As in, they could literally do nothing. So why piss off Navas (and, presumably, their fans) with this farce. Even as conspiracy theories go, that's a bad one.
it's a bit out there alright, although they may have promised DDG they would free him from his Manc hell this summer. Now they have "tried" (but United let them down, somehow) and will still eventually get the player for free.

People are bonkers if they think LvG won't play Dave now. Romero was clearly brought to be a number 2, not a number 1.

Yes, but they're clearly portraying us as the side who screwed up the deal, and they get to make us look like a greater shambles than we already appear to be. It also means they can have led DDG to believe they would get him out of Manchester this summer and blame us for it not happening. Involving Navas does seem stupid, and makes it less likely to be true, but something doesn't seem right about all this.

Well if that's the plan, it's backfired spectacularly. Even the ever-loyal Marca are putting this one all on them.

With Di Maria and Mata i can understand why we paid over the odds as we were competing with teams who had CL football. There's no excuse why Madrid shouldn't have paid the asking price for DDG, with Neuer he's the best GK in the world and more importantly he's been our best player for the last 3 seasons, you can't just expect us to roll over and let our best player leave for peanuts.

Yeah, looks that way, I don't really know what to make of it all, just thought Lowe hinting at underhand stuff is interesting.

Not like they need to. United have somehow(though this time it doesn't seem to be the club's fault) gotten embroiled in another transfer drama again. A reputation is steadily building.

This was the only possible outcome as it was the one that benefited all parties to a certain extent. Hopefully the "show madrid a lesson and bench De Gea for a season" gang learn a lesson and realise this isn't how business is conducted.
I am keen to point the finger at Utd since Fergie has left and not trying to hide it. The club has totally changed in that short time and done a lot of things I have been unhappy with. I think Woodward is a total disaster.

And I do think Utd should have signed a number one keeper way earlier. When it l looked certain that DDG was off before the end of last season, I can dig up posts if you like from me saying we should be on the phone to Chelsea ASAP to get Cech. No dithering or haggling, just get in a number one right away.
I wouldn't say that he is a total disaster but he comes across as a megalomaniac who lacks sufficient understanding of how the players' market works. Time will tell etc but I'm worried.

In Spain United have been absolved of any blame in this. How they can accept total responsibility yet our own fans jump on us?
We're the victims here. Did we blame Bilbao during the Herrera farce?

Two of the biggest clubs in the world acting like a bunch of schoolkids.

One our part, if we had no intention of playing De Gea then this deal should have been long long back. The whole point of keeping was to play him not freeze him out.

Where does De Gea go from here?

I don't see how us overpaying on players should result in us also letting players go on the cheap. If anything you should be applauding Ed for not giving in so easily this time. You seem to be completely obsessed with blaming someone on our side no matter what.

Two clubs? It only seems Real are pissed, United are blameless.

Can somebody do a summary? I have not been following at all.
ed's been working super late trying to increase revenue streams. he's up and out the door before david wakes up and david's back in bed long before eddie arrives home.

dave put up with it for a while, ed was trying his best to give them both everything they wanted, he knew that. ed was just so committed to his work that he was neglecting david's needs.

one day there was a knock at the door, ed was out working as usual, david answered it in just his lingerie.

"hola mamacita, como estas? how ar-dew?"

and this, it begun.

florentino had only just moved in to their quiet, leafy street but already he was making david feel things he'd not felt for a long time. the more he thought the more he wanted it. eventually he caved in and they were at it like bunnies. all summer long whilst ed was out, they would meet up in secret and do the nasty.

one day ed came home early to find them both on the sofa. he'd had his suspicions, the greasy black hair in the bed, the smell of chorizo on david's breath. but this was the proof he needed. they tried to get away with all ed's money but alas he'd signed a pre-nup. they would not be getting the money, nor would they be getting together.

Obsessed?

I have my opinion, others, have theirs. The opinions are being exchanged - that's what happens in a thread. Because I repeat my opinion in the course of these exchanges doesn't mean I am obsessed, but does mean I believe strongly in my opinion.

If we go by one of the hundred rumours out there, this was the first bid from Real for De Gea :)

I don't share you optimism. His relationship with LVG may be completely broken down. Although he will know he needs to get his shit together and play football otherwise it will be massively damaging to his career if he's in the stands for a year. Whether he'll be as good as recent seasons and not drop regular clangers is a big concern for me.

Has this ever happened before? A player forcing through a move that ultimately fell through at the 11th hour and then came back and played (well) for the club he wanted to leave?
Suarez was supposed to go to Arsenal wasn't he, the year before he had the great season for the dippers. Ronaldo to Madrid was probably close a couple times before it eventually happened too. There might be more examples but for me if a player is world class like Ronaldo, Suarez and De Gea are then quality will win out in the end. So if De Gea stays I have no worries about him playing well if put into the team, I do have doubts if Van Gaal will play him though.

Van Gaal has said that he'll play him if he's still here once the window closes.
