But the winner by a big margin is Tree Of Life. An arty farty steaming pile of crap that somehow is seen as entertainment by many. I can't even call it a film.

Mixed bag there for me. I really enjoyed Beast of The Southern Wilds and Pulp Fiction. No Country for Old Men bored me and I hated 2001 with a passion. The Grand Budapest Hotel was an odd one for me. I hate Wes Anderson films in general but didn't mind this one - the only other one of his I didn't despise was The Darjeeling Express.

feck, add that one aswell. How the hell does this cack have a score of 7.2 on imdb?!

The Grand Budapest Hotel is the one I wasn't sure to add as it's weird style kept me a bit interested somehow.

I didn't think it was great. Just that I didn't totally hate it with a passion. The Life Aquatic make me want to go postal.

I liked TGBH. In fact all the films on your list are good. That said I struggled with BotSW - to be fair I did watch it whilst I was knackered therfore was forcing myself to stay awake.

I thought it was boring as feck. Pan's Labyrinth was something quite similar but was ten times better I thought.

From Dusk till Dawn. I hated that crock of shit, and though it's average rating is nothing extraordinary, it's still far more than it deserves.

I watched most of Birdman today and really failed to get into it

Not sure what to make of it

Am I right in saying the character mirrors the real Michael Keaton?

where have you met him?
I used to live a few apartments over from him in Downtown LA, and he'd be in the local bar every other night. Spoke to him many times. Seemed nice at first but the smug cuntery soon emerged. There was one particular incident involving someone who was close to me at the time, that left a really bad taste in my mouth. I've never watched another of his movies again.

He's on my celebrity vendetta list, along with Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears, who dissed my wife at a party once. He's about 280lbs of solid muscle, otherwise his shins would've been in serious trouble.

That's my favorite war film. Masterpiece.

I hate you.
The majority of it is narration over shots of the scenery. I wouldn't mind if the narration told us anything, but it all sounds like it's read straight from a GSCE anthology.

I hate you.

Thin Red Line has to be up there.
Along with everything Terrence Malik. The Tree of Life is the cinematic equivalent of the 'emperor has no clothes'. Everyone wants to say they thought it was great, and profound, because they want to be all deep, artsy and clever; but in reality it's nothing more than a series of spectacular images overlaying an incoherent, pretentious ramble on the meaning of existence.

Other acclaimed movies I find overrated:

Birdman
The Hurt Locker
The Departed
Dances With Wolves

I'm sure they've already been mentioned, but pretty much all of Tarantino's movies.

Fg is not bad bad. It had some moments and it works to some extent. I just think it is a bit to fairytaleish. It just do not appeal to me for some reason. Avatar had some decent effects and was not horrible, but it was not too encouraging watching several hours of disneys pochahontas in full hd. It is just not a kids movie nor is it a good action film, nor a well written drama.

Forrest Gump is a truly awful film.

I liked Avatar a lot though.
I don't take offense to people not liking a movie like Forrest Gump (I still like it nonetheless) and I can see where people would criticize the story (simplistic, whimsical story telling, bad plot, etc). However, its just odd that you contrast it with Avatar, because they are the same type of movie in entirely different contexts. Melodrama, 2D, cliched, black and white characters with little development, contrived stories, and little to no critical thinking/story development. They're the same type of movie; easy to watch, clumsy dramas full of emotion that do not challenge the audience in any way, and it makes you comfortable because the good guys always win

Don't like either. Both were dumb and offered no food for thought about anything.

Mad Max: Fury Road is overrated. So is Tim Burtons batman.
