Inception and Interstellar

The batman films seem to have given Nolan a licence to serve up overstretched boredem fests. Loads of people then seem to claimm the films were genius so they can pretend the reason they liked them was because they were smart enough to understand...even though there wasn't very much going on in either film that was all that difficult to understand. I found Inception dull and Interstellar a challenge to sit through.

Avatar

For the first 20 minutes the 3D was impressive. After that I started paying attention to what was actually going on in the film and it was so bad.

Every Marvel film

It's not like I don't enjoy them because generally I do, but none of them are amazing really, and some are quite bad...and then everyone started slagging off the DC films for not being as good...even though there's only beeen 4 of them and 3 of those (ironically by Nolan) were arguably better than any Marvel film to date. Certainly none of them have been as bad as Iron Man 3.

How can these be described as boring?

Not seen Interstellar but Inception is fantastic.

Can understand why people perhaps wouldn't like it but to say it's boring is rather odd.

It's a good action movie, I enjoyed it. I just don't think it's the greatest action movie in the last decade, or worthy of a Best Picture nomination etc.

It's the best action movie I've seen. I mean, it's mainly CGI, but in terms of high octane, edge of your seat nonsense, it's my favourite.

What would be your fav. action movie of the last decade?

The high octane edge of the seat action was great I agree. I just didn't love it as much as others did, and I don't care about any characters at all.

I'm not sure, but here's some I liked more than Fury Road:

The Raid, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocal, Edge Of Tomorrow, Bourne Ultimatum, The Dark Knight, Kingsman, John Wick. And probably more that I can't think of right now.

I can see Hateful 8 and Revenant tearing up this thread soon.
I don't know if enough people love Hateful Eight to call it overrated. Most reviews I've read say it's not one of Tarantino's better movies.

I'm still super excited to see it :)

Anyway, Star Wars. I-VI, nothing exceptional there. It must be one of those franchises that you had to experience at the time, because as someone in their late 20s, I just can't watch that shite.

The original trilogy are great for what they are: pulpy fantasy space opera with iconic visuals. Fair enough if that's not your cup of tea, but to say it's nothing exceptional is absurd.

Not as absurd as their fanbase.

TESB - 12th highest rated movie of all time? ANH 19th? I could see them maybe fitting in between 50 and 150, but that's just me. I always did prefer Star Trek, though.

I'm not a fan at all(Chewie is just as annoying as Jar Jar) but the first 3 are well worth seeing for the ''I am your father'' moment which is just fecking epic.

Also Episode V has some great cinematography in it.

I thought Big Daddy and Waterboy were decent. Wouldn't say they were overrated though.
Yeah, I think most people know they're shite. I'll throw Billy Madison into that list of films I enjoy, but know they're terrible.

Is the Hateful 8 that loved? From the impression I've been getting, it's a decent Tarantino affair but nothing too brilliant from him. Still looking forward to seeing it though.

Se7en - I piss myself laughing at the on the nose literary references including Detective Somerset (Maugham).
Social Network - instantly forgettable.
Mad Max: Fury Road - It has it's moments and Theron and Hardy have a quiet understated chemistry between them, but a largely forgettable movie.
Star Wars (1977) - The only one I saw till the 'force awoke' last week. Both are rubbish, the latter is a 200 m fan movie, what an utter waste of money. Play Mass Effect 2 instead.
Indiana Jones and the quartet of mediocre movies - Play the "Uncharted" games instead to get your adrenaline fix.
Blue Velvet - probably a cultural thing, but to me America has never seemed anything but violent.
Chronicle - Live action "Akira" rip off.
The Hangover - Mildly amusing watching Tyson mime the drum solo and punch the dentist in the face.
Anything from 'the mind of Christopher Nolan" - although try watching Interstellar with the sound off , it's wonderful and awe inspiring.
Drive - interesting music, great beginning, works better as a short story than a full length feature.
Gladiator - I like it, but it's not that great. Just a simplistic revenge story with no subtext although I suppose if it gets people interested in history that's alright.
The Shining - I'd like to redrum the person who recommended I watch this.
Kill Bill - Just watch a Salman Khan or a Rajinikanth movie instead.
Saving Private Ryan - intellectual counterfeit
How to train your dragon 2 - aside from the cinematic crime of casting the charisma vacuum, Jay Baruchel, this movie is basically "the lion king" with Dragons minus the songs.
Sholay - Imagine if Tarantino made a western set in India.
Marvel's entire lineup barring the original Iron Man and Spider Man 2.
Inception was an action movie?

As a reference point, terminator 2 was one of the best "blockbuster" action films I've seen. If you're counting inception as an action film, then it's not even close.

Also the point with inception seems to be that it's regarded by some as some sort of genius film, a real thinking man's quality film, when it's not. Like terminator, like matrix, it's a big Hollywood entertainer really. Although in my personal opinion it's nowhere near as good.
Plenty of terrific action films that are honest about what they are:
Edge of Tomorrow, the newest Mission Impossible, the fast and furious movies, the Verhoeven Total Recall and Robocop.......

(Rajinikanth's entire filmography)

I'd agree with Blue Velvet. It was a little interesting because of how fecked up Frank was, but that was the only thing.
Eraserhead - This was shite and not even good on acid.
Same director. Looking through his filmography. I haven't enjoyed any of the ones I've seen. One of my friends asked me to watch Twin Peaks and I just couldn't get into it at all.
Feck David Lynch the pretentious turd.

I don't like that moderately successful film that I didn't take to/the film that "art folks" latched onto/the foreign language film a few people I don't like are into.

1. Inglourious Basterds. Felt more like a play than a film. A bit silly, and not particularly engaging. Gave up two thirds of the way in. As a big tarantino fan who even enjoyed Deathproof and Jackie brown, this just left me cold.
2. Citizen Kane. I appreciate that Orson Welles employed cinematography techniques that were ground breaking at the time, but it hasn't aged particularly well, and is nowhere near as much fun as The Third Man which Welles also starred in a few years later.
3. Gladiator. Fight sequences aside, intolerably boring. A poor mans Braveheart.

zero dark thirty, slowest moving film I think I've seen, maybe alongside spotlight.

I suspect I am going to find a few to add to this list as I go through this years Oscar nominations.
