Se7en - I piss myself laughing at the on the nose literary references including Detective Somerset (Maugham).
Social Network - instantly forgettable.
Mad Max: Fury Road - It has it's moments and Theron and Hardy have a quiet understated chemistry between them, but a largely forgettable movie.
Star Wars (1977) - The only one I saw till the 'force awoke' last week. Both are rubbish, the latter is a 200 m fan movie, what an utter waste of money. Play Mass Effect 2 instead.
Indiana Jones and the quartet of mediocre movies - Play the "Uncharted" games instead to get your adrenaline fix.
Blue Velvet - probably a cultural thing, but to me America has never seemed anything
but violent.
Chronicle - Live action "Akira" rip off.
The Hangover - Mildly amusing watching Tyson mime the drum solo and punch the dentist in the face.
Anything from 'the mind of Christopher Nolan" - although try watching Interstellar with the sound off , it's wonderful and awe inspiring.
Drive - interesting music, great beginning, works better as a short story than a full length feature.
Gladiator - I like it, but it's not
that great. Just a simplistic revenge story with no subtext although I suppose if it gets people interested in history that's alright.
The Shining - I'd like to redrum the person who recommended I watch this.
Kill Bill - Just watch a Salman Khan or a Rajinikanth movie instead.
Saving Private Ryan - intellectual counterfeit
How to train your dragon 2 - aside from the cinematic crime of casting the charisma vacuum, Jay Baruchel, this movie is basically "the lion king" with Dragons minus the songs.
Sholay - Imagine if Tarantino made a western set in India.
Marvel's entire lineup barring the original Iron Man and Spider Man 2.
Inception was an action movie?
As a reference point, terminator 2 was one of the best "blockbuster" action films I've seen. If you're counting inception as an action film, then it's not even close.
Also the point with inception seems to be that it's regarded by some as some sort of genius film, a real thinking man's quality film, when it's not. Like terminator, like matrix, it's a big Hollywood entertainer really. Although in my personal opinion it's nowhere near as good.
Plenty of terrific action films that are honest about what they are:
Edge of Tomorrow, the newest Mission Impossible, the fast and furious movies, the Verhoeven Total Recall and Robocop.......
(Rajinikanth's entire filmography)
