I've been wanting LvG out a month into his appointment. He's sucked the fun out of watching United. He's had long enough to prove his credentials.
totally agree Sults. For the first time in my life I actually forget to watch games and am not bothered. It's never been like this for me but we are so boring right now. I've been a supporter through times when we were rubbish. Least we had the odd great game in between the dross. But this nonsense? Sucks the life out of it for me.

Those who don't care about the traditions of the club and say there's no such thing as the United way should jump ship and support City. I care about the romance of the club and the wonderful attacking players we've had over the years as much as anything else. Compromising this for a trophy count is sad to me. It's all well and good to make a case for Mourinho, but don't tell me this club doesn't have a unique history of attacking football with young players. Mourinho would have to change his ways and play an expansive/domineering brand of football. If he came here and did his usual nullify-the-opposition-first nonsense, I'd want him straight back out the door.

Tell me. Have we been playing attacking football under van Gaal?

Mourinho is not speaking to the club until LVG is gone. He wouldn't do that to a friend.
This just sounds like something Giggs cooked up. Bribe Mou and once they sack LvG he can step up since Mou will resign. Can't stand Giggs the future manager one bit.

They are all special and unique. All the A list teams are. The thing is that what makes them special changes from club to club.
The Arsenal way used to be dour, negative but successful football. Then it became attractive, successful football. Then it became attractive but futile, unsuccessful football. Identities in football are shaped by managers and all managers are different, so clubs are also transient.

You hire the best man for the job, if he changes the style of play but the club is successful you'll learn to suck it up.

Nah. I think he has done a great job so far. But he does need to make this next decision perfect. None of us know what that should be and only time will tell.

Reminds me of SAF vs Forest in the FA cup with Mark Robbins.... You never know, maybe the right decision is to keep faith with LVG and convince him to stay after his contract is over.

Personally that's what I would prefer we do. LVG got his calculations right, but the world class winger and striker we desperately need right right now did not work out (Di Maria & Falcao).

We have had horrendous injuries and pathetic finishing ability in the last 5 games, else things were going ok (aside from dull football). I remain convinced that with better luck with injuries and an excellent January transfer window (Vardy , mane and recall Januzaj), we would click through the gears post January.

But it looks like the media frenzy has made Woodward lose his nerve and so we will soon become a sacking short term club just like the rest. We hire Mourinho and fail to get top 4, do we then sack him too?

I'm losing all association with the club I grew up with, barely recognise the behaviours of my club right now. If we do end up going the Madrid/Chelsea route, I doubt I'll be able to retain much intesest. I'm sure their are many like me out there too.
The thing is that we are where we are; a sacking club because we have messed up the last two managerial appointments. What we need to is get the next one absolutely spot on and when you have the best man at the helm you won't have to sack wily nily because he will never take you into a position where you have to consider sacking him.

It has to be remembered that LvG was a default appointment because no one else was available who was close to what we needed at post Moyes United. The board would have been aware of his flaws but came to the conclusion that we needed his team buildinh expertise more. It's such a shame that he let absolute power get into his and proceeded to gut the squad leaving us with too few attacking options - he is paying for that now.

Why not sack SAF during the 3 barren Djembax2 Gibralter years ? He took his eye off the ball big time and totally underperformed.

Do you totally absolve our players this's year? Mata, BFS, Rooney, Fellaini, Depay have all had rubbish seasons so far.
I'd sell Fellaini. Rooney has been a great player in the past. Mata is still good of played in the right position, BS is still new to new league. Depay is only a young kid. If Sir Alex was a Manager today and had under-performed for 3 years to the same extent he'd be sacked. Different times, and expectations.

You make very well reasoned and accurate statements, esp about being promoted too quickly. And I agree Giggs is a risk.

But we have now also seen that experienced pro's like Moyes and LVG have not been able to deliver to expectations, perhaps because neither can grasp the DNA of what makes Manchsster United click. I believe of all the candidates out there, Giggs gets that more than most.

So do we go with another experienced pro who also does not yet get the club (and with Mourinho, also has a personality culture clash with some of our club values) or take the ultimate club hero and take a punt that he will learn as he goes along. Or stick with LVG hoping the strategy will bear fruit in year 3.

Neither decision is without huge risk and so in my opinion all involve similar level of 'flipping a coin'.
Agreed, to me only Ancelotti was a safe decision, now that he isn't available Giggs becomes a credible option.

It'd be ideal to get the new manager in before the January window, so we can salvage our season. I'd be willing to make an exception for Pep.

In a very dull and predictable way, yes. The problem is not with a lack of endeavour, but more to do with the rigid structure of van Gaal's coaching; he's stifling the players and needs to stop. Either way, Van Gaal comprises 18 months of our club's history. Why do you think Mourinho would be the solution to our tumescent football? He's never taken a side that was underperforming and made them play expansive easy-on-the-eye football. I predict it will be the catenaccio for us.

Because he had huge wades of credit in the bank. LVG has nothing of the sort.

Do you also suffer from premature ejacu..... One month into his appointment you already desired an exit ? Sure he started the 5-3-2 formation going against all which United stands for, but who can really blame him after that electrifying pre season tour. We had the we will improve after three months period. Wasnt it better to judge after that period ? One month is not very long to prove a certain credential isnt it ? I will be straight honest, i expected a title run with LVG, so i (and ofcourse many others) are extremely disappointed about the current state of affairs. Im sure LVG did not expect this scenario, but the way he sets his team up with patient possession, you just invite the opponent to defend in numbers, hit you on the brake and exit the pitch with an bitter taste.

Most of the top class clubs rarely issue statements backing a manager. They generally display a stony silence while pandemonium ensues elsewhere. They tend to see themselves as above getting involved in and reacting to tabloid sensationalism.
True. When they do, you get snarky remarks about how public statements supporting the manager are signs things are going wrong so the media just starts speculating more.

CQ proved he was a terrible manager though, both with Madrid and Portugal.

Which kind of proves my whole point. Even someone who was considered a fantastic assistant manager, integral to our most successful period ever, went on to fail as a manager. Yet some people think giving the job to Giggs, who's now coached under two unsuccessful regimes, and only been an assistant for a year, should get the job?

Can you really not see how mental that would be?
 Yeah of course it's mental and risky, but we have also now seen that experienced pros's who do not understand the DNA of the club and the expectaions of its fans for exciting football is also a huge risk and failed twice.

Einstein said repeating the same thing again and again and expecting a differnt outcome is the definition of madness.

If we sack LVG (I hope we don't) I'd prefer Mourinho over Giggs Cos I like his swagger but I honetsly don't believe it's any more of a guarantee than appointing Giggs.

I think the 3 years under-performing is a red herring here, Sir Alex had earned the right to be given the time to get back on track and the under-performing was only relative to how brilliant he had been. LVG has earned none of that and has mismanaged way too much to be given any more money or time.

Demanding that Ryan Giggs prove himself before getting the United job is not the same as not appreciating/respecting the club's traditions. There is nothing I'd want more than seeinh Giggs taking the job and winning things as our manager for the next three decades but the fact remains that he is unproven and that the club is precariously placed and a third disastrous managerial appointment could be the last nail on the coffin and we'd be confined to midtable mediocrity a la Liverpool.

Also people shouldn't peddle the lie that United when faced with the choice of a highly qualified manager and a legendary player we have always chosen the underdog. Apart from Wilf McGuinness and dear old David we have always gone for the one with the track record. This is why we plucked Alex Ferguson from Scotland and didn't go for the romantic option like George Best then. Making stupid and suicidal decisions is not a part of our tradition.
