How do those two connect?
I'm almost certain he has spoken in the past about how he liked OT, the atmosphere there etc. Then today he mentions how important the stadium is to him in deciding where to work.

Granted its not watertight logic but I'm desperate :)

As much as many expect him to go to City, I still find it kind of strange that they might sack Pellegrini when he's done a reasonable job thus far, and might even win the league for them while potentially having their best CL season yet. I mean, I can understand them really wanting Guardiola, but Pellegrini will be right to feel aggrieved if he gets the boot.
Here's Pellegrini speaking today on the 'different' culture at City:

Pellegrini expressed his relief that Manchester City do not act in a similar fashion (to Real Madrid).

“It is absolutely different. It is another way to think about the manager. A lot of things are different.

“That is why one team is changing manager every year and at this club it is not the policy of the owners to change immediately when you don’t win a title. I repeat, different projects for each club.”

I still think Chelsea's a major possibility.
Chelsea with their London pull and strong set of youth players will be a bigger worry under Pep, imo.

It'd be the point City truly overtake United as the bigger current club. They will have far more draw to players and we'll continue to struggle for years to come.

To think we have had the best opportunity to put things right after the huge mess since Fergie left, and we probably aren't going to take it is sickening.
I really hope I'm wrong.

This is exactly how I feel, we are at a fork in the road and those who think we cant go the same route like Liverpool are sadly mistaken. Everyone has money now and we can only live off our past glories for a finite period of time.

If Pep goes to City without us even trying, both Woodward and LVG have to go.

I meant Pep and Neymar.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the offers was from Tottenham BTW. They are the sort of club who might think they are capable of attracting Guardiola.

To me its this simple. United is the biggest job in England. Pep has his pick of England's clubs. If he chooses City over us then I've lost all respect for him. I have a hunch he won't. I just think he will end up at the biggest club in the country.

Of course he's going City, him saying there's been offers from a few clubs is a stunt to add an extra zero or two to his pay package. City fit the criteria perfectly;

* The players they already have suit his style of football. There doesn't need to be a huge rebuild of the team which he'll need to do if he joined us.

* Money is no issue, which could be argued he can also get at United and Chelsea, but at city he can spend it how he wants with little to no influence from above. That he won't get at Chelsea and United.

* his mates are already directors at city so he will have their backing of things don't initially go to plan.

Again, why?

Everyone is assuming he'll pick City because "money is no object". You said it yourself a couple of lines below. If this is the case, why would he need to publicly put pressure on to add another zero or two?

Do we think City don't know Chelsea and United are going to be interested? That they'll ignore him if he points that out during their private negotiations? If it's reached the stage that Pep is maneuvering so publicly, it surely means one of two things:

1 - We should take him at his word and nothing is signed. He is weighing up his options.
2 - He is signing with City but negotiations have been tough enough that he needs to speak out publicly to put pressure on.

Neither option suggest a closed door to us approaching him.

Didn't Pellegrini already say he loves the idea of Pep managing City? He's already made his peace with it.
True. Still seems mad to bump a manager off when he wins you the league. Everyone knows it would be in the best interest the club though, i guess they'll justify it that way. Too good to miss etc.

Of course if City come second or third then they'll have no bother. He'll be gone before the medals are handed out.

Even if Pellegrini wins CL and league for City this year, he will still be replaced and it will be announced as him stepping down to a different role at the club or moving on to another challenge rather than City disposing of him.

In the meantime we will keep van Gaal because he manages to get us to Europa League on final day and you cannot sack a manager after a home draw to Bournemouth.

I'm resigned to the fact that he'll be at City next season.

The sad part is that the response of Manchester United to that, will be Ryan Giggs.

Tbf Inter sacked Mancini despite winning the league title and hired Mourinho.

Pep being classless there. Why make that announcement, why not wait till you actually have something to announce? Well, to instigate more rumours and fan muppetry, to get his face in the media even more. He's being an attention-seeking Mourinho.

It will be United way. Pep would ruin our history.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. All this 'will he, won't he' nonsense is becoming tedious.

We won't be playing counter attacking football which has been our style for mos of the last 60 years and in every single game we ever played under Ferguson and will not give youngsters a chance and remember that we always based our entire team on youngster and academy products.

Just kidding, Pep would be a perfect appointment. Woodward has already briefed that we are not interested though which is not suprising at all considering how this club has been run since 2013.

I like how the BBC says that we might not approach him because he didn't return the call in 2013. It fits in with the idea that the heads of the club think like teenage girls.

I don't know how I will cope if he ends up at City. After watching Pogba becoming everything we've needed in the last 2 years, Hernandez scoring in Germany, Thiago-gate, signing Fellaini, and us playing unwatchable bullshit, this might send me over the edge.

I think we have a good chance of getting him. I seem to remember him mentioning the OT atmosphere previously and how he liked the stadium. We've then got him mentioning today about how the stadium is important as well.
Fergie wanted him when he left, which Pep was aware of, so I don't think its certain he'll go to City at all. 50/50 at the moment imo.

If we get Pep then perhaps we'll get Neymar too :)
If he actually said that then we can safely rule out City

Indeed. This is reminiscent of agent-driven transfer sagas to line their players' (and their own) pockets. One would hope managers are slightly less egotistical.

He was forced to say something since Bayern already announced he wouldn't be staying. Probably didn't need to say he was coming to England though

Teenage girls wouldn't have stuck with LVG throughout the last month. Teenage girls couldn't hold off from hiring Jose.
The way this forum has acted over the last 6 weeks is how teenage girls act. The way posters attack Giggs based on a flippant LVG comment and then comparing us to Liverpool circa 1996 and how the world is caving in is how teenage girls act.

I'm doubting people's commitment to Sparkle Motion
I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Obviously they want him, I suspect they've made an offer - doesn't mean that's where he'll end up.

If a deal to City was done (i.e. a contract signed) why announce mid-season that he's coming to England? Why not just do what he did at Barca and let the season end and tell everyone then? Is it possible that with Mourinho seemingly imminent at United he decided to let them know he was available? Or that he's put his availability out there to see what offers he gets? I would say so. Surely if it was set in stone all of this just brings unnecessary attention on him - which it seems in the past he isn't overly comfortable with. It makes no sense if he's already committed.

There's been talk before that he fancies the United job. It'd be another challenge, different to what he's had so far. he may very well end up at City, but I suspect he's had offers from all over. Arsenal and Chelsea shouldn't be ruled out either.
Good point RedRover. It does seem strange if it was already done and dusted.

Pep or Mourinho have to be in place for us. There are no other sensible options right now. Giggs is in the right place at the wrong time.
