I don't think the players look for Louis' reaction when we score

That Moyes picture is fake.

Someone changed the scoreline to make it appear 2-2. He was celebrating when we made it 2-1 before Bent equalized.

In such a shit season can we just enjoy the happy moments ffs.
Who's not enjoying it?

We've suffered all season from watching games where players have been accused of being gutless, and I can guarantee there are countless posts in the numerous LVG threads that accuse him of not motivating the players. Question remains, are players likely to be motivated more by a passionate manager.

Your right, lets get Alan Pardew in.

TBH, I think its because we all miss Fergies little crazy dances or jigs that looked weird but awesome. Like Fergie didnt know what to do, but he was just happy so thought, let me move a bit.

It is however weird seeing a manager take down notes after a goal (which has happened a lot this season, just not today). It is sometimes weird not to see a celebration, even if a little muted.

And it has nothing to do with his philosophy, or anything to do with what's happening on the pitch.

His reaction - or non-reaction - to our goal. Not a glimmer of anything resembling passion - or a glimmer of anything.

So, do outward signs of passion matter?? Should I be judging him on that? Probably not, but am not impressed.
Couldn't agree more, all he does is write in his fecking notepad!

If Van Gaal went mental for that goal people would've mocked him for celebrating against some Danish nobodies while the tie wasn't won.

Just like Moyes was mocked for celebrating taking the lead against Fulham.

Man can't win. ("That's the problem, hurr hurr.")
That celebration was priceless.

No one seems interested in answering your question Livvie. Seems to me the answer is 'it depends'. Klopp and Martin O'Neill seem to get ordinary players to raise their game with a very animated sideline manner (can't believe I just wrote 'sideline manner'). But for every Klopp/O'Neil there's at least 10 Tim Sherwoods!

There has to be a happy medium...
Yep. It's whatever the manager does when we win every match.

If the team is doing poorly, people will pick holes in anything even slightly unusual the manager does.

OK, fair enough - I probably started the thread wrong, but forget LVG. The question stands - does a manager's attitude rub off on players? Can a passionate manager inspire players more than an impassive one.
I've added to the title to spare you some grief, Livvs. :)

Couldn't care either way. All that I want from a manager is success and entertaining football  I quite like many aspects of Van Gaal's character it is just the end product that I dislike.

What I hate is his lack of reaction when we're losing. At least look like you're trying your best to actively sort out the problem.

I remember there being a thread on here after our loss to Barca regarding how defeated SAF and Mike Phelan looked on the bench and that was just 1 match. Fergie was passionate whilst fast approaching 70.

Meh. Not bothered one bit. I prefer no reaction than smug stupid shit. He is old and the only thing that matters is results. He has failed in many things, but not celebrating or showing passion is least of my concerns. I can dislike him for not being able to improve the team in two years but not for immaterial stupid shit.

Ah the feck.
Thw guy is an arse.

He comes over here with his formula. Ridicules the press coz they're stupid and cant possibly understand football.

Ridicules his players because they don't want to follow his formula. Then blames everything and everyone else because his formula doesn't work.

All the time sat on his arse, supposedly checking off the game against his formula. Then when something happens instead of reacting he's checking his formula.

I mean... aaaaaargg! Football's a simple game and part of that is passion. Our team doesn't have it because our manager doesn't have it because it's not in his fecking formula.

I had a few lol when he said the atmosphere in the dtessing room wad thw best he'd seen it with people laughing and talking.

To be fair - my reaction to 1.1 and 2.1 was also like his - more anger than joy because we're Manchester United ffs.

It's an interesting point.. Although it may look bad from our positions as fans to see a manager sat looking fairly apathetic towards the game, I'm not sure there's any wider correlation to suggest that managers who show extra passion on the touch line Instill extra passion in the players... Ranieri may be fairly active on the touch line but to say he was passionate would be a massive over stretch, yet this Leicester side are playing with the most passion I've seen in a whilst. Take jurgen klopp, probably one of the most passionate men in football, but I'm not sure Liverpool are playing with any more passion than they had under Rogers..

Maybe Miguel Herrera should be considered for the United job?

Benitez never showed any emotion when he was Liverpool manager. He barely even celebrated any goals we scored but it was fine because we were doing ok with him in charge until his last season. Van Gaal's lack of movement on the bench only bothers some supporters because you're not getting results or playing decent football. I don't think it makes any difference to what's happening on the pitch.

Necessary, no, but it goes some way to showing the manager wants the same things as the fans. Neither extreme of emotion (none vs overboard) looks good though in the end it really doesn't matter if the results are there.

i wish we had cheerleaders and every time we scored the coaching staff should be mandated to dance a little Pom-Pom jog with them. Oh but the dance must be varied every 5 matches or so, otherwise we aren't showing enough passion for celebration.

This. Those were scorelines we all should be expecting from Manchester United. I don't see why we should be going nuts.

It's got nothing to do with football though.

If my job went tits because something happened in work. I'd be pretty emotional about it and outwardly it may look to other people that I cared about what I was doing.

I'm not saying I would do this to show people I cared. But if you have enough of an emotional investment in what you're doing it shows.

maybe as a fan I'd like to know that when the teams going down the shitter the manager actually cares.
