And so it begins! The first of many rejections / disappointments?

Could always say we were interested but never that interested, although we've watched him in most games this season...
Perhaps the managerial situation has affected thinking on pursuing him.

I didn't even know we were interested . Oh well, the good old story of signing a player who did reasonably well against us in the CL.

Now let the rumours about Thiago moving to City begin.

We were linked with double that, weren't we?
yep, latest was 40m upfront + 40m add ons or something. Some said bBnfica wanted 60m upfront or some bullshit. Well yeah, all the pointless discussion in here about his fee was worth it i guess

Now cue all the people who didn't want him moaning about us letting him go to another club

Just thought about that now. But wouldn't Sanches be more of an Alonso replacement? I don't know much about him tbh.

Happy we didn't pay the crazy sums being touted in the media for him. Never a good sign when the majority of the home fans don't rate him.

Strange that Bayern went for him though given the talent they have. Guess they must not think their youngsters like Gaudino will end up being the players they hoped.

Very true.

On the fee part - I don't know if it is just my perception or something, but it does feel like we overpay for players, compared to the Bayerns of this world. But I'm sure I'm just paranoid and we were nowhere near being fleeced for almost double what Bayern paid.

Thought Sanches is more box to box? Didn't look like a disciplined holding midfielder, let alone a deep lying playmaker to me? Not sure how Sanches and Vidal fit into the same side to be honest. But then, I've barely seen anything from Sanches outside of his performances against us this season.

You could well be right. Like I said, haven't seen anything of him either. He did seem to be more box to box, high energy though, as you mentioned.

It will be an interesting fit for you guys. Maybe a holding mid/deep lying playmaker with a Vidal-Sances box to box pairing in the middle? It gives you a lot of options.

Quite disappointing. He's obviously an incredible talent, this is all very bizarre.

Wow, looks like we got gazumped big time here!

At least that guy who really hated the idea of signing him will be happy, although I guess he must also be amazed that a team as strong as Bayern wanted him.

Wow that came out of nowhere. I have only really watched him against Bayern where he played really great. Seems I was not the only one to notice.

We could have used someone with his energy.

What does this mean for Vidal? I had the Feeling those 2 are quite similar Players.

Absolutely gutted.

Just shows what a load of rubbish the press talk. As far as we knew it was nailed on, then Bayern sign him for about quarter of the reputed fee

I guess Woodward listened to the caf after all. Hope you're all happy :(

I dont think that is the case most the time. We just end up in a situation, where we have to overpay, leaving it to the last weeks of the transfer market. Sanches would cost the same for us probably, but we are also desperate and look clueless at times in the market. We miss out on good targets and value, like Sanches and Gündogan, to be desperate and get fleeced for Kante or another player in August.

What about those 23 games of scouting? All down the drain.

What is the final fee for this deal ? I guess we miss the train on this one but I doubt we were really that serious about him

If he is a Mendes client and Mourinho was supposedly joining, id have said this deal would have happened for sure

It does raise questions about our plans with Martinez and Kimmich though. The Hummels signing means neither will be a regular starting centerback, the Sanches signing makes it less likely that we partner Vidal with Martinez in a midfield 2, maybe Kimmich as a deep lying playmaker with Vidal + Sanches in front of them. I honestly have no clue what we're planning to do. There also still the rumours about our interest in Pjanic floating around.
