I know a steward that worked today and he know nothing about the drill. But were OT staff involved in the training? If not, why was such training held at Old Trafford? Would it not be for OT staff to know what to do when a bomb is found?
Agreed. To be honest if the club employs an incompetent security firm that leaves fake bombs laying around, I would blame them too. They're responsible for their employees and contractors.
Have a word with yourself, will ya.Just when you thought there was nothing that would drag this great clubs name through the dirty something like this goes and happens.
You are right mate, there was a chance that supporters were in danger, and the game was postponed because of that. Correct decision, if a suspected bomb is found then there is no alternative but to call the game off. The safety of the people at the match is paramount and I am happy to see that is how it was treated by the club. No Embarrassment, a suspected bomb has to be taken seriously. This is in no way the fault of the club. Wish all the 'we're an embarrassment' posts would stop.
Not entirely, but they are to blame. They may be able to get compensation in turn from the security company, if that doesn't bankrupt them.It is embarrassing. But the club isn't entirely at fault.
This is worrying. Not some juvenile bullshit about getting fined or looking a bit stupid.
The only embarrassment from the club's point of view is the failure to not notice the device soonerTweet

He's right, it's pathetic.
A report appears saying an external security firm left a dummy device by accident following a training exercise and there's instantly a dozen people slagging off the club when it's feck all to do with them.
Nah....the ridicule the club will surely receive from this is entirely justified. It may have been an external company that fecked up but the club is fully responsible for what goes on within the ground. A fecking fake bomb was left lying around for a number of days and nobody clicked on until match day.It was an external company.
Yeah that was my first thought.I suppose the obvious takeaway from the story is that between Wednesday and Sunday there are no - or at least insufficient - sweeps of the ground. That'll change, you'd imagine.
Depends where it was. Presumably if they were using it with sniffer dogs it wouldn't be in plain sight, though not completely hidden.Agreed.
It had been there for 4 days prior to the game and nobody found it which is a bit shocking.
I thought it was inexplicably obvious that that part of the post wasn't entirely serious. I didn't really expect it to just be binned... Just that someone at Old Trafford today must have known about such drills taking place, the device could have been identified by the owner of it. But the point I am making is that I don't believe that that spin on the story is true at all. I could be wrong, but it sounds like shite.Really?
You expect them to take that risk with 76000 people? The club did absolutely the right thing, yes, if they were aware they were doing this kind of training exercise they would have been fairly confident it wasn't going to be harmful, but they have a duty of care to inform the police and then the police will have taken the course of action that was taken today. "Just lob it in the bin". Wow
Laughing stock? a suspected bomb is not now, nor ever has been a laughing stock.FFS once again United are the laughing stock of Football , Worldwide.
Exactly The club would surely have people on sight liasing and supervising an external company on its property. It is the fault of the firm for forgetting it but surely the old trafford staff and security would of at least checked the area in which the exercise was being done afterwards. Maybe I just have too much common sense.Thank God we have you around to defend the reputation of the club huh this place is getting RAWK lite
You're telling me no United staff were involved in this activity and no United staff managed the grounds in between the events?
The embarrassment stems from the fact that the club's own employees planted the fake bomb by accident. If you think that's not embarrassing, you must have skin like a rhinoYou are right mate
Didn't realise stating potential reproccusions was juvenile. This is worrying. Not some juvenile bullshit about getting fined or looking a bit stupid.
It gives the impression that more work has to be done surrounding security between matches.
It was probably pretty hard to spot. A terrorists is going to make a bomb as concealable as possible, it makes sense that they prepare for one like that. How has a fake bomb been sat in the toilets and not picked up by anyone before fans started filling the stadium 4 days later.
Why would you make a device as real looking as possible for training dogs? They work off scent not sight don't they. Or have these dogs been sat in classes where they have been taught how to recognise a viable explosive device by sight.Assistant Chief Constable John O’Hare from Greater Manchester Police said: “I am grateful to the Manchester United and Bournemouth supporters for their support and assistance today.
“Following today’s controlled explosion, we have since found out that the item was a training device which had accidentally been left by a private company following a training exercise involving explosive search dogs.
“Whilst this item did not turn out to be a viable explosive, on appearance this device was as real as could be, and the decision to evacuate the stadium was the right thing to do, until we could be sure that people were not at risk.
“Everyone remained calm, followed instructions, and worked with officers and stewards to ensure that a safe evacuation was quickly completed. Those present today were a credit to the football family and their actions should be recognised.
“I would also like to thank all those involved in the operation today for such a professional response, which includes police officers, stewards, MUFC staff, media representatives and commentators and the Bomb Disposal Team.”
Executive Vice Chairman Ed Woodward from Manchester United Football Club said: “The safety of fans is always our highest priority.
“I’d like to thank the support from the police which was first class and the impeccable response from fans of both teams.
“The Club takes security very seriously and staff are regularly trained with the police and emergency services to identify and deal with these incidents.
“We will investigate the incident to inform future actions and decisions.”
So is your post.So almost 10% of our Premier League games have been started late this season due to our staggering incompetence.
It actually beggars belief.
LvG brought us Murphys Law. Everything must be shit now.Laughing stock? a suspected bomb is not now, nor ever has been a laughing stock.
feckin hellThis is an absolure fecking shambols.
If it turns out that this whole thing is internal we deserve a fine and a points deduction.
How can we not know what training exercises are taking place and where?!
Have a word with yourself.FFS once again United are the laughing stock of Football , Worldwide.
I don't think anyone thinks a bomb scare is a laughing stock situation. But the negligence of how it was there reflects pretty badly on whoever is liable whether that's the club and the security company or just one of them.LvG brought us Murphys Law. Everything must be shit now.
On a serious note, I agree with you 100%.
